I am totally new so I can't offer any really great advice. I can tell you that the "look" of a regular cigs was important to me too but that has changed. A long lasting battery, throat hit & vapor are much more necessary. I started with a KR808d-1 from Welcome litecigusa.com - BlueHost.com & I really like it but I can't wait till I can order a ego-t from Cignot your Midwest Electronic Cigarette store..

Good luck, these people here have the best info available.

The Bloog will be a fine choice. They don't sell juice at the moment though, so if you do go with the Bloog, be sure and pick up some bottles of juice so you can refill your own cartomizers and save some money. There are plenty of other routes. If you go to the forum suppliers list at the top of the page, you'll see what I'm talking about lol.

PureSmoker.com - USA Electronic Cigarettes & USA Made eLiquid!!! Has a low priced totally decent starter kit for 29.99

Vapor4Life-Because it's your life - E-Cigarettes/Smoking Alternatives Has good starter kits for a few more bucks, and TONS of flavors to choose from

Electronic Cigarettes By Bloog I've never tried one of their batteries, but their cartomizers are the best I've had yet. Just like I mentioned before though, no juice as of yet.

All of these models are the KR808D-1. So you can mix and match all of them. Good luck!!

Generally, the KR808D-1 and the 510 are the most common connector styles -- most people go to one of them, avoiding proprietary, highly marked-up units.

Most KR808D-1 are cigarette form factor, reasonably thin. Automatic battery (one that is started when you inhale) can be easiest for someone starting out, though many like manual. The battery is a true 3.7V output (higher V = warmer, more vapor). Standard battery is 280 mAh (mAh = how long it runs between recharges), while the XL or Mega battery is 380 mAh (noticeably longer run time, in about a 1" longer tube, kind of like a More or other long cig). Big battery variants are available, at higher price points.

808 kits are widely available, anywhere from $35 - $50 for a kit with 2 batteries, charger, couple of cartomizers. vapor4life, nhaler, vaporsetc are a couple of places, always check for their current discount codes. Pre-filled cartomizers are widely available, if you don't want to have to fill your own right from the start.

510 family is primarily manual. They run at 3.2V, though some of the newer big battery Riva 510s are running at 3.7V (at least to start). The standard 510 is pretty short run time (180mAh), while a Mega 510 is 280 mAh. The eGo and Riva series are big battery versions, with batteries running from 650 to 1300 mAh.

Due to the lower voltage, people often want to use a low resistance (LR) atomizer or cartomizer with 510 series. This replicates the power/warmth of higher V models, though lower resistance means more current draw (using up the battery life), and true LR is normally not recommended for standard 510.

If you are okay with something that doesn't look like a cigarette so much, and is manual, and are okay with filling your own cartridges right from the start, liberty-flights has really good pricing on Riva 510 starter kits, $30 after taking the discount listed on their site. vapor-pure also has attractively priced kits, if they have them in stock.

I am a cartomizer person -- the heater/atomizer combined with the cartridge that holds the eliquid in one piece that looks like a cig filter. For Riva 510 I like the Boge 2 ohm 510 carto.

New people who smoked full strength cigs typically use 24 mg/ml strength liquid, though some only need 16 - 18 mg/ml, and some need a 30 or 36, particularly for craving/trigger points. Lights smokers typically use 16 - 18 mg strength, some using 12 and others using 24. Some people drop one level lower in nicotine, depends on individual reactions and vaping style.

Drink LOTS of water. The fluids used are humectants -- the vapor is primarily water molecules drawn out of the air in your mouth and lungs.

Good luck!

I would recommend the KR808 as that's the only one that I have experience with. It is the most familiar (as it resembles a cigarette the most) and easiest to start with, imho. No matter which way you go, you're definitely on the right track now! You'll get so much good advice and information that the only question you'll have is "Do they do this to EVERY new person?!!?" :D

Welcome to ECF and congratulations on being ready to stop the analogs!! :D

Safe cig? No way. Do not buy anywhere that charges more than $20 for a slim ecig battery, or anyplace that doesn't sell blank carts or cartos for their unit. And don't buy anything at all if you don't know what model it is, who else sells it, are you paying a good price, and is it a good unit. Some of the "name" brands models that will lock you into them for supplies.

And don't believe the typical rebrander lies - no slim ecig battery lasts all day. And a cart does not last as long as a pack of cigarettes. You will be adding ejuice during the day to whatever cart or carto you are using (much more often with a cart). Some rebranders try to make refilling harder (glued on caps on cartos etc). Just stay away from them unless you know they are selling a popular and uncrippled model for normal prices.

Of the ones you listed, the only one I would recommend is Bloog (a KR808D-1) and even then, if they don't offer manual batteries I say get Vapor4Life (KR808D-1) or just a basic white or steel color KR808D-1 instead. Most people here use and recommend manual batteries on all ecigs.

Your other best starter ecig option is a Joye 510 - more options and parts available for it, closer to the diameter of a cigarette, but shorter battery life. (2-3 hours vs 3-5 hours for the KR8). But there are mega xl batteries available for 510 which should give the 3-5 hours life but will make it longer than KR8 (135mm or 130mm w/ a carto vs 120mm) (all of those hours amounts may be even less if you vape constantly)

OR - if you are a heavy smoker, hard dragger, or need or want 6-8+ hour battery life, ability to use more power hungry harder-hitting low resistance parts, etc - then skip the slim cylindrical ecigs and look at Ego. Ego-T, Riva 510

One week in myself. I was smoking for all most 20yeas (only 35yo) almost a pack a day. Prices went way up with the last tax hike and I said KO getting that e cig thing now. That was over a year ago sad to say. I need a cheep fix and ended up stuffing my own cigs but man the quality went way down. I wanted the green smoke e cig it looks like a cig and glows green at the tip instead of red or blue. I wanted to show I was an environmentally sound nic addict. So I added things up. Even researched the fill of the green smokes with e-juice to try and save money. I wont mention the price of start up but it was way to high for me. In the end the need to save had me writing a list. I listed all the thing I wanted in and e cig then I went through and marked off the things I could live without. And looking just like cig was the first thing to go. once I realized all the features I could live without my cost went down to 1/4 the first price. I went for the eGo (yeti) a 2 piece, longer batt life, nice throat hit 510 modal. Yes it is as fat as a sharpy, Yes I feel I have to hide in in pubic. But my intention for the switch to E cig was to quit an addictive habit. I don't mind not vaping in pubic. This is a long term investment into your health. Make a list and read everything you can find out there, before you buy consider all the options. And good luck to the both of you......
