Hi, everyone.

I'm new to the forum, and new to vaping. Just got my 510 yesterday. I got the intro kit (just one e-cig, charger and five carts), so I need to decide quickly whether I like it or not, or need some other model.

There are some problems, though.

The 510 immediately produced *lots* of vapor. I mean, lots and lots of vapor. And I promptly choked on it. I can't seem to inhale right without choking and coughing, just like I did when I started smoking for the first time 30 years ago. And it triggered a very mild asthma symptoms (yes, I am asthmatic, stupid critter that I am, and analogs sometimes trigger it, but mostly not)

The only way I can use it is to inhale part-vapor part-air, and in tiny amounts (sort of like smoking analogs with bronchitis... yuck... can you tell I am horribly addicted to cigs?..)

Is this normal for first-timers? Will I get used to it, like I got used to analogs? Should I try another model that produces less (or less dense) vapor?

I smoke very light analogs (Capri), most other smokers say that to try to smoke my cigs is like smoking air...

I'm also having problems with too much nick - they sent me super strong liquid, and now I get hot flashes and, if I am not careful heart palpitations, (I get that if I smoke too much analogs, so I know it's too much nick most likely) - but I ordered low-nick liquid and waiting for it to show up.

I also was a bit surprised by the mediciny, chemical taste, but I think that's the primer burning off, right? (I have been reading the forums like a good girl :p)

I am desperate to get off analogs. I've tried everything in the past, and this is my last hope, I think. I am planning to taper down to no-nick eventually... To be honest, I am scared witless.

Any help and encouragement is hugely appreciated.

Cheers,
Briar.

Hi Briar, Welcome to ECF. Stick with the 510, you won't regret it. It can take a while to get use to vapor instead of smoke. It took me about two weeks.
Like Mary says, try lower nic juice. The hot flashes will go away.
I had them too and went to lower nic juice and that stopped but in about 4 weeks had to go back higher to get enough nic once I got use to vaping.
It takes time, hang in there. It is totally worth the trouble.
Happy vaping.

Briar, try not inhaling it into your lungs at all, but rather pulling it into your mouth and then exhaling out your nose, or out of your mouth, or both. Just don't feel the need to pull it all down into your lungs right away. If the nic isn't too strong, it will give you time to adjust to the changes. That's how I started, and I have been analog-free for 5 weeks now.

Like mbolack said, the trick is to not inhale directly into your lungs. Just pull it into your mouth like you're sucking on a straw. Then draw it into your lungs and exhale it out. If it is still too strong, cut your e-liquid with some propylene glycol or vegetable glycerine or just take it into your mouth and blow it out your mouth or nose without drawing it into your lungs. When you get some more e-liquid, order some that is low nicotine, like 6 or 8 mg.

Thanks for your replies, folks. I am a way happier puppy now. The chemical smell has gone and I really like the current smell. Better than cigs, anyway.

I'm following the not-inhaling advice - at least not inhaling much. LOL Works fine for now. No more choking or nic overload symptoms.

I hope my low-nic liquid order shows up tomorrow. I'm honestly missing the inhaling part. I've only had about five analogs today, but it was very, very hard. <sigh>

Porphy, the 510 I got is manual. I'm pressing the button for a very short time currently, to get just a little vapor. Funny, most folks seem to want a lot of it, but I'm being very sparing right now. I guess it's good for the battery charge, anyways. Haven't had to recharge it yet.

Thanks again, everyone.

Cheers,
Briar.

Glad your experiences are already improving. You're gonna love vaping! Welcome to the forum.

Everyone says to gradually work down to the no-nic level. What I'm doing is switching back and forth...higher when I'm feeling the analog need raise its ugly head...lower/no-nic when I just want to satisfy the hand-to-mouth. I also occassionally have an analog (mostly outside).

I'm awaiting a juice order for some no-nic (can't remember who I ordered that from...I've placed 4 orders in the past few days, lol.) I have just a sample of Nuvape's no-nic menthol now...I really like it...kinda light spearmint tasting...and will probably re-order it too.

glad to hear things are going better for you

another little trick is to stop pressing your manual switch before the end of your inhale.
allows you to take in a bit of air with your vapor ;).

next time you step outside - bring the 510 too.
I love using the pv inside (especially during mosquito season :D ),
But the addicted mind is a funny thing.
I found occasionally vaping outside (as I would with a tobacco cig) helped with the substitution/transition.

good luck!

That's a great idea - I'll try that the next time I vape. :)

I forgot to mention, the juice I got with my 510 is Innovapor's ECOpure. It's nice stuff, actually, sans too much nic. I'll order it again, albeit at lower percentage. It sort of reminds me of really good pipe smell. But I am wondering if something in that is causing my choking when I try to inhale normally... We'll see.

The stuff I am waiting for is from Johnson Creek (Vanilla Ice Cream). It's taking forever to show up, and I'm rather annoyed with them... I hope it's worth the wait. The other thing I'm wondering is if they make their stuff with VG or PG... I think I'll write and ask. ECOpure is VG based (but they have some other stuff in it too), and I'd like to figure out if it's the VG that is causing the choking or just the fact that I am unused to vapor.

I'll order a couple of samples from Vermont Vapor today... Their flavors sound delicious.

I'm a little paranoid about ordering Chinese-made liquids. Hard to tell what exactly is in there, and I don't want to switch one devil for another.

OK, 'nuff said.

Cheers,
Briar.
