I'm fairly new to DIY, and I'm having a bit of trouble with the recipes here on ECF, mainly in regards to the flavors.

I don't like my e-liquid to be very strong in flavorings, and I find that 8% total flavor is good for me. However, this means that the more complicated a recipe is, the more minute the measurements are for me. And most of the recipes in the Recipes forum seem to be complicated, with a total percentage of 20 or more. In addition, they require that I have a lot of different flavors on hand.

So I'm looking for some simple recipes, with no more than about three flavors. Can somebody point me in the right direction, or offer some tips? Are there any general guidelines regarding ratios - for example creams and fruit flavors? I cook a lot, and I try to use that knowledge as a basis for figuring ratios, but with an 8% total flavor, it doesn't leave a lot of room for error.

One last question. I have some Belgium Waffle flavor I'd like to try, but I'm not sure what to mix it with, and at what ratio. I use mostly Capella flavors, and have a variety of creams, fruits, custards, and some others. Any suggestions? I'm thinking maybe sweet cream and strawberry, but again, the ratios seem tricky.

Thanks for any help! :)

I am on a Capella binge right now and its all I am mixing with.

A heavy caramel apple. Most say go two parts apple to one part caramel, but I like the caramel flavour a lot. If you followed the 2 to 1 advice it would be 4 to 5% each.

Apple Pie 5%
Caramel 5%
Green Apple 2%

Juicy Fruit type flavour. I was trying to make a smoothie but this turned out to be a ringer for the gum. I am vaping it right now.

Capella Banana 8%
Capella Cherry ( wild ) with Stevia 2%
Capella Orange Mango with Stevia 2%
Capella Golden Pineapple 2%
Capella Green Apple 2%

Very simple fruit that I changed up a little for what I think is a better flavour. The Orange Mango is a killer flavour that can stand on its on as far as I am concerned and the Cherry works in real well.

Capella Orange Mango with Stevia 12%
Capella Cherry ( wild ) with Stevia 4%

If you drip, the easiest way is to make up single flavor ejuices, even possibly additive type flavors, and try mixing them on the fly. This shows one reason why complex flavors often have a higher total percentage though, the individual flavors get weaker. Another way of thinking of it is they could have put all the flavors into one bottle and then the flavoring would be stronger. My highest total % mix uses a normal amount of apple but adds 2 sweeteners which pushes way up the total. I'm sure if I used a pre-candied apple I wouldn't need so much for the exact same result.

    Here's a recipe for Charlie Noble's Soller's Pointe:
    5% Capella Banana
    2.5 % FW Caramel Candy
    .8% FA Virginia

1st thing, smell your Capella flavours, what knocks you off your socks? For me its banana, orange mango, caramel, and apple pie. Then find a % mix that works for you. Some like low% like 10 to 12% flavourings, others like high in the 20% range. I am in the middle right now between 12 and 16%.

Just like cooking, you can always add more to your mix. Mixing two or three flavours is simple. The Orange Mango/Cherry and the Heavy Caramel Apple are perfect examples for my taste buds of simple good mixes.

You can mix up 10ml batches. When wanting to test flavours, I mix up a big batch, 50 to 100 ml, of my PG/VG with nicotine, no flavouring. Then I put 8ml of that mix into a 10ml bottle and mix up small batches by adding 1,0 to 1,4 ml total ( combined ) of my favourite flavours. That is not 1.0 to 1.4 of each flavour! 1 ml syringes are my best tool for this.

The beauty of DIY is the 10ml bottle cost more than the juice you put in it, so you are not wasting a lot of money experimenting. The hard part is the time and patience it takes to create mixes you really enjoy.

^^-- 10+% per flavoring is not low even with Capella. But it can add up if you use several dissimilar flavors. If you want caramel to be obvious, yeah that can take a lot.
4 to 6% was standard for tobacco mixes when I 1st started mixing and vaping. And a lot of people went by that back then for other flavours. I can remember people going berserk any time someone posted a mix that was over 10% total flavouring. Things have changed a lot in the past four or five years; but 4 to 6% is still what I call a normal tobacco mix; whereas 10% is not thought of as high for other type mixes..

Just my opinion but going through all the recipes here, there is an abundance of non tobacco ones that are well over 10% total flavouring added. If you look at the recipes I posted, none are more than 16% total flavour and the caramel apple is 12% total. Tobacco is very strong and my mix for that is 5% to 6% tobacco and I have always added at least 2% caramel, cherry, or apple to sweeten it some.

I don't want to hijack this thread with my opinions, the OP is looking for recipes, so I am good :)

my daily vape is 49% PG, 49% VG, 1.2% nic, 0.8% cuppuccino flavoring by capella. I seem to favor just enough flavor to cover the taste of the other ingredients. Taste adapts to very strong or weak flavoring whether it's food or e liquid. I'm a plain food kind of guy though.

I just started playing with Cap Blueberry Jam.
So far mixed at 8.5% with the addition of drops of Cap Coconut ( 10 drops in 30mls.) and threw in a couple drops of Tfa Marshmellow (6 I think) and 2 drops of Tfa Sour.
So far this is OK....I am planning on uping the coconut, maybe use Tfa coconut extra.
Pretty simple mix, but taste is good enough for the husband....:p
I am the one who always wants to keep tweeking it

For Belgian Waffle, below is an abbreviated recipe for sensitive taste buds:

    BB's Belgian Blast

    2% Maple Syrup (TPA)
    5% Waffle (Belgian) (TPA)
    ) % Butter (TPA)

You can add sweetener or take out the butter to suit.

Thanks. :) If I was to swap the maple syrup (don't have any) for cream, or Bavarian cream, would you still use 2%?

@RoseJ - Have you taken a look at Bill's Magic Vapors dropdown box of recipes? He's got a part 1 & part 2. There are lots of them that don't take many ingredients, and they sound wonderful. I've saved about 20 of them I want to try.

I think most of his are made with TFA flavorings, but I'm sure your CAP would work as well, maybe just use smaller % of them.

Forgot to add this: WizardLabs is still running their sale on their 8mL vials of TFA flavorings, sweetener, etc. They're located in Altamonte Springs so it doesn't take much shipping time nor cost to get theirs. Might want to try some of their flavorings, too.

Thanks! I'll be in Altamonte on the weekend, so I'll see if I can get the time. Sounds good! :)

Regarding Bill's Magic Vapors, I can't find the recipes, only a blog. Or am I just missing it?

You have to go here, then download the zip file & open it. It's only 33.01kb, so not a big file at all:

Dropbox - Bill's TFA recipes on EJuiceMeUp Calculator Format.zip

By the way, Wizard Labs is only open M-F 9AM-6PM. It's also best or place an order online, and choose Pick Up instead of shipping. They need to make sure they have the flavorings you want, and in the quantities you want, ready for you to pick up.
