Need Smok Alien 220 Help Please

Hey all. So, I just switched from a Reuleux 2/3 with a tobecco super tank with a .5 coil to the Alien 220 with a TFV8 baby tank. Have the .4 coil installed. Had the guy at my shop prime it for me and fill it and off I went.

All day yesterday and still today, I've noticed that this hits noticeably drier than my old setup, and also it doesn't have even a fraction of the flavor of my old vape. I'm vaping 6mg(also what I had in my old setup). Im trying to get to that nice, warm, almost dewy cloud that I was getting from my old vape, and just cant seem to get there. Ive got it at the 55w recommended for the coil. I just dont know what else to try.

Try lowering the wattage a bit. Those "recommended" power settings are typically over-inflated and not the best way to figure where your personal sweet spot is.For me it performs best ~40W. If you overpower and then chain vape it might get a little dry from not keeping up on wicking. What juice do you use? High VG does take a bit more to wick well. Also, the 0.4 ohm stock BB coil has, for me, a cottony taste for like half a tank but then does just fine.

It goes without saying prime the coil well, let it soak for 10-15 minutes in your full tank, and then start out with a few unpowered draws, then ~20W and work your way up a few watts at a time until you get it the way you like, which is likely not the "recommended" power.

Ive gone from 30w all the way up to 55w. The only change I get is that my cloud feels warmer, but it doesn't change the flavor intensity or dryness of the cloud. I've got Lava Flow by Naked100 in there now, and its a 60/30. I just realized what the issue might be. The Lava Flow is a new juice to me, and I'm used to Humble Juice thats 80/20 or Infamous Trill thats 70/30. Could this all just be a PG/VG issue? The flavor profile of the tester even at 0mg in the shop was better than what I'm getting now, but I wonder if that's because its in a higher wattage setup now that its in my own tank?

Yup, it may be the juice. Have you tried the same juice in your Super tank for comparison?

Nope. Gonna dump that tank now and see what happens.

What you have discovered is that different vaporisers are different, regardless of the mod they sit on.

Have you tried lowering watts and restricting air flow a bit? Usually gives you better flavor.

So, tossing in a 70/30 juice, lowering it back down to the mid 30w range and closing the airflow a bit has helped. It's still not quite there, but I'm hoping that I'll adjust and enjoy it more. I'd hate to have spent 80 bucks to hate my new setup.

It's a journey, be patient. Also keep in mind that juices do not perform the same from tank to tank. I have tanks I only like dessert juices in and some I only use simple fruits in.

Thank you everyone for your replies. I'm gonna run down to the shop and see if they have any of the .6 coils for me to try with it. I think the .4 might be just a little too low for my liking too. Trial and Error

It's always trials and errors took me about 3-4 different tank models and all kinds of coils to find what i liked the most (tried anything from .15 to 1.8 0hms coils before settling on .5 0hms) The journey to finding THE right stuff is a long one indeed but it's an extremely fun one imho.

Try junking the stock coils and getting the RBA. You can build your own coils, set your own wick, etc. I didn't have any problems with my Alien 220 with the Baby Beast, but I have stepped up to the Big Baby Beast with RBA and have had nothing but flavour and cloud nirvana. I know it's all subjective and some vape snobs will turn their noses up at anything that isn't handmade mech mid with some obscure Tibetan RDA ... but I'm ROCKING with my Smok Alien 220, Big Baby Beast with and RBA running twin SS316L 26AWG 9 wrap 3mm id at around 3ohms, hitting at 45/50w - it even works well in TC mode when I can leave it alone long enough for it all to equalise at room temp, etc. Tried Ti, Kanthal A1, etc. but the SS gives me a lovely unmetallic hit, next try will be some thinner gauge stuff 28/30AWG. Keeping it simple.
