I use a 510 and I have tried a few cart mods in an attempt to reduce the need to constantly top off. I have used the spring mod, but the poly fill gets stuck on the atty and then i get that god awful burnt taste, even when its wet. Plus my atty gets to saturated... not to the point of gurgling, but the vapor is harsh and the production is lower.

I have also tried blue foam (solo and with the spring mod) and i couldnt get that right either. Too much or not enough... leaking or a tough draw and no wicking. So i am back to polyfill and topping off every 5 drags.

Someone on a post talked about wetting the blue foam with water and then squeezing out prior to filling with eliquid for better wicking. My question is... would this work with the poly fill? Saturate the polyfill with water, squeeze out the excess and then fill the cart with juice. I'm thinking this would work as the fibers would essentially be half saturated with water and the eliquid would be heavier and by gravity would wick better.

In addition, i was wondering if cutting the polyfill near the mouthpiece end into a V shape would further help the wicking issue.

Any suggestions/comments?

I haven't tried the spring method yet. The blue foam method works ok if it's cut exact. The foam is ¼" thick so you need to take a straight edge push the foam flat and cut with a razor knife (single edge blade) at between 3/16" and ¼". This will leave you with a long thin strip of foam. This you cut into exactly 3/4" plugs. Now fill the cart with juice to where you can just see it (near the ridges inside the cart). The plug goes the 3/4" length pinched down to fit the rounded edges of the cart. I find if you vary to much from these measurements you'll have trouble. If you wet the plug first with water and pat it dry the plug seems to soak up the juice more readily. If you don't wet it first it just takes a little more effort to make sure it's soaked with juice till you get it to puddle. Then take a paper towel and pat the puddle away, one or two drips on the wick of the atomizer put it together and you're good to go. This whole operation still takes some playing around to get it just right, and so it goes....

With the poly I find that you can remove it from a fresh cart and cut it in half fill the cart with juice and put half the poly back in and go to vaping. This is kinda hit or miss but does work when you're totally frustrated with wasting lots of juice. The better way is to try the straw mod and top that off with half to one third of fresh poly fill. Again if you wet the poly first it seems to soak up the juice better. You'll find that you must clean both the foam and poly after a few refills as they seem to get dirty. Both loose their effectiveness after some use but the cleaning will make them last much longer.
I hope this is of some help to you. Hang in there and keep watching the cart threads since everyone is still looking for the perfect cart mod. There are other threads about lining up the cart and atomiser correctly which does seem to help.8-o
