Hi all, I love GCD and have a couple of partial bottles from October but haven't touched them for some good deep steeping. I really like it fresh but wanted to see what it was like with a good steep. I decided they should be good to go recently and tried a few Reo bottles full and am disappointed but am wondering if maybe the deep steep now requires a different build than I typically use. What do you GCD veterans suggest for a build? I normally do dual coils in Odins, 5 wraps of 28g around a 7/64 drill bit which clocks in at .5 ohm . So about 35 watts on a fully charged battery and I use Ready X Wick. I really want to fix this flavor issue, I know it should be much better than this. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Personally I like my builds at the 1.2 range for my Reos and Dibis (nuppin, igo-s, atomic bottom fed atties with 29 gauge wire) and 1.4-1.7 on my iStick 20's at 7.7 watts (protank with my rebuild heads using 30 gauge wire.) With the coils placed so the air from the air holes can get under the coils. And I don't pull the wick, dry burn and re-wick. I rebuild the whole thing. No matter what, it just tastes dead if I try that. Of course that's not something I'd recommend with the Ready X Wick but maybe for the sake of science trying a new build with a different wick would be better? I could never get double coils to taste right to me, just a thought.

Now were these unopened glass bottles or did you let them breathe? I have a few (lots) of the old plastic 50ml bottles that I'm only hitting now from last year but I do this on purpose. Steeped GCD is less on the cinnamon with more pastry and icing forward. Hope this helps!!

Thanks Megan, these are plastic bottles from October that are about half full. I'll try a brand new higher ohm build and see what that does. Maybe shoot for closer to 1.5 instead of .5 ohm. I have a little doodad I made so I can reuse my pieces of RxW so that's not a problem. I thought I had read that the cinnamon would recede and it probably has but the pastry isn't tasting very good at .5. I don't even know what this is tasting like actually, maybe pastry just isn't good at low ohms. Thanks for the tips!

Hello Penny! Vape GCD almost every day in an Odin myself @ 0.75 ohms with dual 2mm ( 5/64) coils. As Megan said, 0.5 is a wee bit warm for the true flavor to come out. I'm not a big fan of RXW as it tends to mute the flavors for me. Using Cotton Bacon wicks and sometimes KGD. The cinnamon, frosting and pastry all come forward with this build...

I think I have some KGD around here somewhere. I'll have to dig it out and give it a go with the GCD and compare to the RxW. I love the RxW for it's ability to last and last but will try other things if it will improve flavor for me. Thank you distorto!

Hope it helps! :)

I hated GCD at low ohms if that helps, but again, it's my taster. ;)

I don't even like it in a dripper. Give me an old school Protank 1 with 1.7-1.8 31ga nichrome 80 coil between 7.5-8.5 watts with some cheap CVS rolled cotton and I'm a happy camper.

I keep seeing issues on ReadyXWick. I would jump on the cotton. Also, keep in mind the cinnamon fades with steeping - and extra heat further reduces the cinnamon factor - so, it may be that you prefer it fresh - OR - if it's steeped it may be one of those situations were a little experimentation device wise is needed to get the results you desire. Maybe kick up the resistance a little?

I like your style. Ask MKR about GCD in a rebuilt protank ;)
