Need some help with mod electronics

I'm building a box mod. I basicaly want the "Awesome 5V 3AAA box mod"
except I'll be making it in AA and adding a LED.

Looking at the scematic that is listed on that tutorial I was wondering if I can just add the LED to the switch circuit? It already has the 470ohm resister on that leg of the circuit.

Or would I need to run its own leg with its own resistor? I only want the LED to come on when pressing the button.

That device is a Fairchild KA378R05. You are aware that even with the inhibit pin pulled to ground (device disabled) your are still pulling 10ma of current from your battery. In other words the device never really turns off. I see you have a master switch so that is a good idea.

You'll want to connect one of these 2 ways. 2nd one will give you a better indication of when the regulator starts dropping out.

Yes that would be fine. In that configuartion you could get rid of that 470 ohm resistor on the inhibit pin and just tie it directly to ground (save some wiring).

With regards to operating with 2.2 ohm load. The regulator has a thermal dropout. It should handle 2.2 ohms with no problem but you would have to use a good heatsink to do it. I'm guessing the device was dropping out due to overheating and he/her was not heat sinking the regulator.

I don't like that idea.

I just need a 5v mod circuit with a led. Preferably using a volatge regulator. (For consistancy of use)

It will be a 510 mod, so I need to make sure it won't have a problem with the 2.2 ohm attys since they seem to be so common these days.

I gave up on it all after building my 5v mod with a regulator and having it cut out after a 1/2 second draw with my protected 14500's. Just for the hell of it I rigged some cr2's in there and it worked great. I'm just not a fan of unprotected batteries.
I'm sticking with 3.7v from now on.
For your post to be of any value we need to know which regulator.

Well I'm planning on using this one:

LDO 5 volt, 3.0 amp regulator with control pin!

If that helps at all.

Just wanted to inteject into this post. I know this post is kinda old, but I wanted to add some info..

If you go to madvapes.com and look at the How_To. There is a 5V post that has the schematic for this setup with an LED and an added 10uF Capacitor for output voltage stabilization. This should prevent the cutoff that so many people have experience not using a capacitor. This will smooth the output voltage to 5.14v..
