I have a Kayfun that I use. Been having issues of late. I get about 1/2 threw the tank and I will get a dry hit. Couple pulls gets me out of the dry hits, but it seems the cotton is now burnt. Happens over and over. Once I get the dry hit, my cotton is burnt and I am pretty much stuck having to replace cotton.

Seems to me, I should be getting more then a 1/2 tank before needing to replace. Seems my taste buds are sensitive to the burnt taste. Only wish my buds were as sensitive to juice. Never seem to get dry hit tongue.

Could this be do to my draw?
My airflow?
Holding down the button to long?
Coil and volts? I am vaping on a Provari, 1.3 ohm coil at 4.0 volts. 28 gauge at about 7 wraps. Cotton is organic. Lose.

I have tried all ways of threading cotton. PBusardo, Grimmgreen. X. Away from feeding holes. Over the feeding holes. Extremely lose. Snug. I do not think its a cotton issue as I have tried all types of threading.
Getting really tired of this.

Thanks!

I would suggest that after several pulls, cover the airholes and take one or two dry pulls to keep the cotton saturated at all times. Depending on what version of the Kayfun you have, you may have to adjust how many times and how hard you take these dry pulls to make sure you don't begin to flood. I still change my cotton wicks after a couple tanks. Hope this helps.

Hcigar. Frustrating. Have a Russian 91% I am using now. See how that goes. Even broke out an IBtank and a Protank today.

For the Kayfun, I have found the best setup in my opinion is 3mm braided silica ekowool. All it needs is a short piece shaped like a U that touches the deck where juice flows up. I would never use cotton on a Kayfun or a genesis style tank. But thats my opinion. I'd only use cotton in drippers due to dry hits and scorching ruining them. Here's a few pics of how I do it. Everyone who has seen the way I do mine (in person), love it

Argh! Just my 2c (mind you, I have a love/hate relationship with the KFL+ and other Kayfun style devices, also, ESPECIALLY with thicker liquid like NT CB/CLS).

In as much as I wanted to have that "out of this world" flavor explosion with the KFL+ paired with the Provari (or any other VV device for that matter)... I have gotten MUCH better results with a slightly sub-ohm coil and a mech. I've tried, and tried, and tried to get CLS/CB to 'pop' in the KFL+ and a VV device (Provari 2.5)... but it never really seems to 'catch' for me like a mech mod. YMMV, I am sure someone below has additional feedback.

I *did* get fantastic results from Betelgeuse and Gravity in the same set-up though. Still a bit of a bummer because the Kayfun is so "sensitive" that even the slightest buildup on the coil deteriorates the quality of the vape (so I end up yanking the cotton every 3 tanks or so)... but...

My best tips on the Kayfun...

I use the top fill method (I think P Busardo has a vid on it?)... it seems to alleviate some of the vaccum issues associated with using the fill hole.

The height of the coil off the deck is an important consideration - you could try lifting or raising the coil, or lowering it.

The PG/VG ratio of the liquid is a huge consideration - I got better results from NT fruit as compared to the bakery vapes. I only recently fell for H1N1 in the Kayfun, I struggled with it as first.

My VV build is just a hair over 1.1, 6 wraps, 28gu, organic cotton - I still have to give it an occasional primer puff and I don't chain vape it.

I was thinking, I have only recently moved up to the Provari and kayfuns. I have always heard (on other devices) long slow soft draws. And I have always done that. Perhaps that is where my problem is....not creating enough of a vacuum. Does one draw harder on the kayfuns?

There's another consideration - the draw... the draw causes liquid to be pulled into the chamber. Another option - change the drip-tip... I got better results when I took off the stock drip tip because it constrained air-flow!

More good Kayfun feedback - I haven't taken the time to do even ONE silica/Ekowool build in the Kayfun... cotton, for all it's benefits, is high maint in the Kayfun. It's a pain to change flavors, and it requires the cotton to be yanked every 3 tanks for maximum performance. ProvariTech might be on point suggesting Ekowool - you might get better results?

I forgot to ask if this has been the case all along or if it just started with dry hits. I think Ekowool wicks faster and that nasty scorched flavor sucks. I tried it for a while and it always seemed like I scorched the cotton when I was away from home and didn't have anything else to vape on or a replacement wick available. Silica became my favorite once I figured out how to do it. Pre-burning/curing until it glows is absolute must for clean taste. The silica becomes stiff once it's cured and it helps keep it from fraying but still has some flexibility. Something else that i have heard about some Kayfun clones do not have a deep enough milling in the channel that takes juice up to the tiny deck where it soaks the wick. I have personally never done it, but I have read the fix is scraping the channel with a drill bit to make it slightly deeper. The kayfun design relies on the vacuum of your "sucking" on mouthpiece to pull liquid up the inner chimney channels. The slight vacuum in the liquid storage area keeps it from leaking into the chimney when not in use. The engineering design requires near perfect milling for it to perform as designed. A slight variation or wear on the milling machine bits throws it out of whack. Sorry if I come across as a "know-it-all". I learned the hard way when there was little info about it and was frustrated when trying to look for answers and never found them (In English translation). Maybe someone can benefit from the extra info i wrote and the countless hours it took to get it

No need to apologize at all - I appreciate you taking the time to lend guidance to NT fam members. Speaking of which, have you tried the liquid yet? (you're a new face!)

I'm betting once you try it, you'll never use cotton in a Kayfun again. The 3mm braided silica really puts the juice on the coil fast. I still cannot stress enough about curing the silica. It is shipped uncured to keep it soft on spools and prevent it from getting brittle before customers actually use it. Hold a short piece with tweezers over a lighter until it glows yellow. Then it is cured and ready for use, has NO taste and lasts longer than the wire coil. Uncured silica tastes nasty

I had joined this site specifically to help a member with wraps for a Provari. They wanted a shrink wrap but ProVape only offers non-shrinking wraps. There are shrink wraps that I love! They are hard to find if you dont know where to look. I saw some great effects by wrapping net or lace around the mod before shrink wrapping. The texture was added bonus with a nice wrap. The shrink wrap I found at an electric supply warehouse. It is used for shrink wrapping insulation on cables. It worked great on the scratch-magnet polished steel Provari.
The ZenKote on gold model is ridiculously hard.

Thanks for all the info'.
I use my Reo's primarily and the wick issue(s) have kept me from using my kfl+ clone more often. It sounds like it may work in the rm2's also.
