Need suggestions how to extend contact from 510 connector

Hey there...

I'm trying to make a mod with a 510 connector.. I'm doing it so that the 10440 battery positive contact permanently rests the center contact on the 510 connector, but as it is right now it's too short.

I need to extend it somehow to make contact, but I'm drawing up blanks. It needs to be something hard/stiff that won't bend or shift, otherwise it can short out if it makes contact with the outer area of the connector.

So.... any ideas?

Just solder pretty much anything to it (wire, brass tube, etc.) and then isolate it with some epoxy putty. That will not only electrically isolate it, but will also give it the stiffness and support that you need.

Great suggestion, thank you! I'm not sure the wire would work, however a tiny tube to fit over the pin, with solder, then epoxied for added strength/support I think is a great idea.

Now, I just need to find a small enough diameter tube to use. Think I'm gonna have to go take a drive to Lowe's.

here's an idea, take some thick solid core wire like 10 or 12 guage or something, put some kind of insulator around it, like maybe the wire insulation from construction grade house wiring and wrap that around it till you get the needed thickness to hold it in place. then use a bit of epoxy/glue/whatever.

Make the outer conductor SHORTER. Inner conductor will stick out. Little solder blob on center conductor to seal it up.

Perhaps a short piece of telescopic antenna from an old radio would work. Cut a piece that slips over the connector and glue in place. A modified nail head or stud would finish off the "battery end' quite nicely.

Thats what I would do. The outside doesn't need to be that long.

Or just a shorter one to begin with.

or you could remove the center piece and the spacer, get a piece of 1/16 od copper tubing cut to length, and stick it in with some epoxy putty which will hold it there and act as the new spacer.

btw this is from one of Highpings mods, not really my idea, not nearly talented enough to come up with something like that lol
