So my dad smokes about 3 packs of Kools a day. He has done this for many years. I am very worried about him because he keeps having intense chest pains. Obviously my first thought is from all the coffee and smoking he does. He has tried many of my juices and likes some of them. I don't smoke menthol at all but I order some here and there just for him to try. He did like a couple of them but I will adress that issue when I find him something to use. He hates my Provari. Says it is way too big for him to be lugging around all day. He wants something similar to the Eroll. Problem I have with the Eroll is that with his heavy smoking habits it will not last him nearly as long as it should. So I have come to my trusted source, you guys! If you guys have any tips on what I should get him into it would be great! I will say that box mods wont help much either considering he wants something a little more stealthy. Thank you all so much! :vapor:

This does present a challenge. To get a PV with a decent amount of battery life for a very heavy smoker, you almost have to go to a non-cigalike battery. Are there any brick & mortar shops within driving distance where he could try some different configurations out before buying? How big is TOO BIG FOR HIM needs to be determined. He likely won't even try something if it's appearance is not to his liking. You may need to suck it up and find the best cigalike setup that you can find.

For someone who has invested so heavily into smoking their entire life, giving it up is like giving up an old friend. Cigarettes were always there to provide comfort during times of stress. And giving up smoking will likely be stressful for him as heavily as he was smoking. These types tend to be very stubborn and resistant to change. I hate to be pessimistic, but the best you might get out of this adventure is to get him to cut down on his smoking, which would not be a bad thing at all. As we say here, it's not the number of cigarettes that you smoke that counts, it's the ones that you didn't.

My suggestion would be to get his foot into the door with the E-roll. Perhaps after a period of time he may see that vaping could help him quit, or at least become a part-time smoker. He'll also likely get frustrated with the inadequate-for-his-needs battery life of the E-roll and be ready to consider something with a higher mAh. Perhaps an eGo for the next step in progression. Like most of us, we start out small and see that it works, and move up the ladder for added convenience. I think you will need to take baby steps in this situation to be successful...if at all.

And above all else, he needs to WANT TO QUIT. Otherwise, you both will be wasting your time.

Edit to add: Is your father seeking medical care for his chest pains? This sounds like angina and heart disease and giving up smoking will not cure this. He needs to be under a physician's care and STAT!

    Don't sell old guys short.

I was 69 when I started vaping, and that was with a couple of 650mAh eGo-T batteries. To be honest, I didn't even know that their was such a thing as an e-cig that looked like the real thing at the time. The first e-cig that I saw was an eGo, so that's what I got.

IMO the crux with us old geezers is the flavor. If we like the flavor, we will use the e-cig. If we don't like the flavor, we will smoke. The only real issue with form factor is will an old set of hands be able to use it without discomfort. Sometimes bigger really is better.

perhaps a 14500 mechanical would be good for him to try. maybe a small carto tank on top? penelope atop a ba gua? i know that's not cheap, but a small quality vape that can pack a punch (depending on setup/juice/nic) could be a winner. maybe he doesn't like tinkering with the rbas though, or filling a phiniac tank is more trouble than it looks to be. if that's so then totally plus one to the cigalikes that these guys are talking about, i think the ctwists with a 3ml clearo would probably work wonders for him if he likes the look.
hope the field trip is going well. definitely let us know if he likes those spinners:)

    Unseen,

Since your Dad has enjoyed a flav or two, follow that line of effort. That's VERY encouraging!!!

If he has ANY idea that 'bakky is killin' him AND wants to quit, then your, and his, chances are very good to break his 'chains'.

As for da "These types tend to be very stubborn and resistant to change" comment, don't underestimate your Dad! Remember all da accomplishments and family raising he's done? Ya didn't get to dis point without his efforts!!!

Hang in dere and continue being an admirable son!!!

At 3 PAD, he's strongly programmed to the feel of a cig all day long as well as a high level of nic in his system. May I suggest an eroll for him, preferably in high mg.. like 24mg.. and a strong tobacco/methol flavor? I think that's the best bet to help him cut down or quit. I spent 8 months with an ego/carto/drip tip and that just didn't do it for me. Its a good vape but it does not simulate holding and drawing on a smoke. Let him try a disposable Njoy King Bold Menthol as well as their Regular which you can buy at Walgreens. Then ask him if he likes the feel of it better than what he's tried. If he does, then, yes I would say get him an Eroll.

edit: I'm no doc and those chest pains should be checked out but having had some problems myself I would imagine its coming from oxygen deprivation smoking that much. Try the Njoy and then Eroll if he like that.

I admit that perhaps I was passing judgement too soon on the old chap. I mean, he was poo pooing a Provari for gosh sakes! :p

I hope that I'm not over-stepping my boundaries here, and if I am let me appologise in advance. I received a PM from the OP with the following message:

"I wanted to personally thank you for that post you did with my dad. Everything you said made perfect sense. He read it and is now readily welcoming the change. For that I thank you so much."

 Looks like where there's a will there's a way. Good luck to Dad and son.

Three PAD wow. I was only about 1 1/2 pad and started with 24 mg nic. What got me off cigs entirely, was a bottle of 36 mg that i used in the mornings for 15 minutes or so. That was when i most wanted a cig. At three a day he might need 36 period. I can't imagine it would be any more than he's already getting.
Second the previous poster who said he should be under a docs care. Good luck.

I'm writing this from my phone so it'll be fairly short. It's fine that my PM was posted. I thank all of you for the responses and am taking them all into consideration. You folks are the reason I continually quote "there is still plenty of amazing people in this world." I am going to get him a 6ml carto tank. From where don't know yet I only drip lol.

Thank you guys for the responses. I am about to run over there and show him a couple 650mah spinners I started on. I want to see his reaction. I hope he likes it because they're fairly cheap and VERY easy to use.

my friends are heavy smokers as well. they started on cig look alike e cigs and quickly switched to ego styles. they both leave them. One stopped smoking and chewing all together. They thought they were big at first when they saw mine but found the benefits to be worth it
