If your worried about safety the DNA chip has its own safety built into it, so as far as I understand it go for the highest MAH.

There's a Panasonic NCR18650 that's 3400mAh.

A couple DNA builders recommend it, as it is the highest mAh of any 18650.....

The DNA 30 has safety limits in that it is limited to drawing 12 amps from the batteries. The battery you sited is an ICR low drain with about 1/2 the required rating....Max. Discharge rate: 2C (6.8A)

I would avoid a mod built by anyone making such a recommendation.

See that's why I don't know what to get. Do I need a high amp drain with DNA and if so do I have to trade off in mah?

A good quality IMR or hybrid that has a 20 amp or better rating will work well, safely and some are now as much as 2900 mah, not far off the lesser ICR models.

Get the high drain battery, and if you're using up 2000 - 2900 mah in 1/2 a day, you may consider putting the PV down from time to time....:laugh:....j/k, I know how hard it is to do...

Sony vtc5 is 2500mah and 30a

This has my vote for this application also. You need a minimum of 12 amp continuous available from the battery. This is the link from Stosh's post #3 above; Preliminary testing with the DNA30. Check out what Mamu says. She knows what she's talking about and likes both the LG 30A 18650, or the Sony 30A 18650.

The VTC5 is actually 2600 mAh, so you're not losing much compared to a 2900 mAh battery with less amp draw capability and if you're using the DNA30 at higher power you might actually get the same or a bit more time from these batts.

Buy from a reputable supplier and you will have one of the best batteries you can get for this mod.

I read on its specs that the maximum capacity is 2600mah but the operating capacity is 2500mah or something. So based on the vtc4's reliability, as far as voltage drop over time, it's a no brainer to get the VTC5.
