Cigarette prices up 40% tomorrow, industry shocked by drastic move - The Malaysian Insider

Well well well. With all the recent hullabaloo going on up north with vaping, now comes another bombshell. It's been an interesting week up there really. What will this mean for vaping? Will it push more of our neighbour's smokers to embrace this, since the ban has fallen through and any proposed regulations have been largely feet-dragged so far. Even for a localite like me 17 northern dollars is pushing it.:unsure:

With the recent works (although some questionable on their motives and the practicality) such as the customs vehicle entry permit, GST, etc... I wouldn't be surprised if this is to up their $$$ returns in their pockets. And i wouldn't be surprised if vaping will head there as well.. likely scenario? Since the recent news on vaping has more or less now settled at "highly regulated", this high cost of smoking will push more smokers to go vaping (likely an argument that the gahmen will use), and vaping will be the next source of revenue to be 'taxed' or in simpler terms, a next channel of more $$.

Its more of a diversion tactic and pathing the way to taxing and regulation on mods and liquids. On the other hand, i read from the news that the malaysian authorities is also coming down hard on mod, tanks and liquid retailers. From the way things go, it seems that they are bent on forcing ecig into the black market

Lastly, what we all fear here is that sg gov will also take lead from our friendly neighbors and increased the taxes on tobacco here
