Quite simply Oroboros, your friend isn't a friend and I seriously doubt if he really does know what he's talking about. What he has 'sold' you is very dangerous on two counts.

1. Never but never use a Lithium-ion cell inside a mod if it has a damaged outer casing. Either bin it or re-wrap it if it is worth salvaging. In your case you should bin it for the reasons below. I also suggest you bin your friend too.

2. You should never use a Lithium-ion battery unless: a) You can guarantee it's authenticity and be of a reputable make. b) You know the history of the cell itself as it may easily have been abused by its previous owner. c) Know the cell's chemical structure i.e whether it is an ICR cell or most preferably an IMR cell.

3. Search our pages for Baditude's thesis on Battery Safety.

I don't know what ohm coils you use but just to be on the safe side get yourself a couple of Sony VTC 3, 4 or 5 batteries depending on your coil ohmage. I would advise taking time out to read up on the technical side of vaping, it will help you in the long run.

I'm quoting this simply because it bears repeating.

Hello, I just recently bought a nemesis clone and sometimes when i push the button, there will be a spark jumping from the locking ring onto the button and it gets really hot. I'm new to modding and I'm unsure what the deal is with this problem. [emoji27]

the sleeve is missing a bit of the battery i can send a pic in the morning. I don't know the brand because that part of the sleeve was torn off, but all the rest of the info provided was written on the side if the battery besides 10a, my friend sold me the battery and he knows what hes talking about.

I understand that you trust your friend, but personally I would not vape a battery if I didn't know for sure what it was. If your friend made a mistake and the battery is a ICR, not a IMR or hybrid lithium ion cell, this could become very painful for you if the battery shorts. ICR batteries are the ones that can explode. IMR will not explode.

Do not hit the switch again once you know some part of the mod is heating up until you figure out what's wrong and correct it.

Moving on, are you putting the battery in with the positive end touching the 510 connection, where the atty is screwed on? If it's the other way around and the battery makes contact with the inside of the mod tube where the plastic wrapper is missing, it can hard short when you hit the button. If this is happening, the battery will be getting hot, not just the switch. BTW, this is one example of the short I was talking about above.

FYI, if you put the battery in the right way around and the metal casing makes contact with the inside of the mod tube, the mod will fire continuously until you take out the battery. This isn't happening, I just wanted you to know the risk was there.

The easy way to solve this is to replace the heat shrink wrapper. New wrapper can be bought and installed easily. You can use electrical tape for a temporary fix if your battery will still fit into the mod.

If this is not the issue, you probably need to clean all the mod's electrical contact surfaces which means all the threads too and specially the switch parts. Here's a video that will help you out with that. Be careful not to lose the little pin.

Good luck with it and vape safe :thumb:

ive been putting positive end to the button and negative at the 510 connection

I... uh... Hm.

Particularly relevant:

Rolygate said:
With the casing positive and 'live', a torn or worn battery label then allows a direct neg to pos short that could bypass any fuse wherever fitted, and a fire will result. The full battery discharge current will pass through the short-circuit and the battery will go into meltdown.

OK, as you understand now, that's good in this case because insulating the battery might just be all that's required :thumb:

Just be careful not to let it heat up for long if it still does.

Hope this does it for you :)

You just need to stop NOW, and go educate yourself before you really injure yourself. Learn how to use your equipment and safely or go get a variable voltage / wattage mod.

I know what I'm doing, but i just am curious if anyone had this issue and how they went about fixing it. I just need to resleeve the battery with some heat shrink wrap. It'll be quick and easy.
