Hi guys

Well, I arrived in Reoville today. New grand and RM2 arrived. I was really excited, but I must have gotten a dud, cause this thing ain't working right. Any advice would be helpful at this point. Thanks.

1st off I think the REO and batteries are just fine. Those seem to be working as advertised, so I believe my problem is either with the RM2, or my builds. Everything taste horribly burnt, despite an initial, through cleaning and 4 attempts at build & wicks. Interestingly enough, neither the coil or the cotton wick is burnt. To let you know what I did, I washed with soap and water, just like I do with my KFL+, straight out of the box. It's squeaky clean. Using torched 28 g Kanthal, I build a 1.0 coil, and tested the resistance on my Provari. No shorts, build seemed fine. I wicked with organic cotton. It tasted hot and burnt no matter how much I squonked. So I tore it down and tried again. Second was 1.7 ohm, 3rd was 1.3 and I just did 1.5. 4 builds on a 5/32" drill bit. I tried tightening down the post as mentioned in another thread, and it was indeed loose. So I tightened it up, now the capture holes are not aligned anymore, but they both seem tight. I managed to do the build anyway, and it taste burnt, like a burnt/dry wick, the kind that makes you sneeze. But nothing is burnt! Wicks and coils seem fine.

Anyway, after way too much wasted kanthal and 3 mils of wasted juice, I'm starting to wonder if I got a dud. Any suggestions you guys have would be helpful.

Only thing I can think of is to make sure your wick isn't too thick and choked down at the coil. If you have too much cotton it won't wick properly. A good test I've used is right after you insert the wick and it's still dry, add a couple of drops of juice on one end only. You should see it wick it's way through the coil to the other side within 2 - 3 seconds. If it doesn't come through it's too tight.
