^^^Right. The 28 gauge works much better (for me) than the 27 gauge. There's really not much difference in resistance....just wrap one less wrap and you have the same thing. And the 27 gauge is just so stiff....hard to work with....and the screws don't stay tight. I like 28 gauge and 30 gauge. I, too, prefer cotton as my wicking material. You can get silica from the reosmods site, so you could try both. I use organic cotton balls I get from Walgreens. I also use cotton thread sometimes, and even bamboo thread, and hemp. I have LOTS of different types of cotton/bamboo/hemp if you'd like to try some before you go buy a bunch. If you PM me, I'll put together a bunch of different kinds and send it to you. I'll label it so you'll know what to get more of depending on what you like.

I have a tendency to get absent minded and not sqounk when I should so cotton doesn't work well for me, burns too easily. I like Ekowool, hollow silica wick. I can feed the 1mm ekowool into a 1/16 and even .055" ID micro coil. Longest I've gone without the itch to try a new coil and thus new wick is 8 days:oops:

jantongret, PM me and I'll send you some samples of what I have. This goes for anyone who wants to try any wicking materials I have. I have organic cotton balls, some Koh Gen Do super pure cotton pads, several types of cotton threads and yarns, two sizes of bamboo thread, and some hemp (that needs to be boiled to be "soft" enough to be absorbent.) ANYBODY who wants a samples pack of some or all of what I have is welcome to it....just PM me with a mailing address. Seriously....even if you're just curious about something different. I have about 30 years' supply of this stuff and would be GLAD to spread it around. :)

Very generous JC! I don't need anything but I just wanted to say I'm really spoiled with Koh Gen Do organic cotton. I won't use anything else.

I agree....it's really, really nice. No taste at ALL...and it's easy to just sorta slice off the amount you need. It seems to be much easier to make uniform wicks.

I really enjoy the rm2 it's very simple and great vapor production. I ordered my 28g kanthal from TEMco and they are out of stock for a month so keep that in mind if you order there. I honestly think the porcelain bottom is a great feature because shorting out is less of a problem. Especially since I'm still a beginner.

Uniform wicks, yes indeed. And it seems a little more robust than the sterile cotton and lasts a little longer between changing wicks. The sterile cotton always tastes like band-aids smell (to me). Sort of like peroxide. And you are right, the O cotton really has no taste of it's own that I can discern.

I know that most don't have this problem, and it doesn't make sense (well, maybe...see pic), but all the silica wick material (including eko and the like) gave me a constant scratchy throat. Cotton eliminated this for me.

I have 2 A7s and I used them without a short for around a year now no modifications. But I can understand why they are known to cause shorts. The bottom screw can unscrew sometimes I guess. I used it with an adapter most of the time I've had my reo though. Now I'm using it without one. I'm planning to get a RM2 soon as I can but for now I don't have any complaints.
