I have read a lot of stories on why people started vaping, I think my wife's and mine is a bit different. I am 63, she is, lets just say younger than me. We both smoked 1.5 PAD for years. She works from home, I am retired and we both like to travel.
We were planning a vacation that included a 3.5 hour each way train ride, only thing, no smoking on the train. We could do it but it could be rough. Looking for alternatives, my brother suggested e cigarettes. He had been using one for about a month trying to quit smoking. Our plan was to get one to use while on the train, no way were we going to quit smoking. On Saturday 9-15-13 we stopped at a local vape shop, told the owner our plan, and did some shopping. We wound up with two ego starter kits and two bottles of juice.
Picking juice was the hardest part. She was a menthol user and I was Marlboro red. She found a "sweet vanilla ice" that she liked, a lot. I tried a few of the tobacco flavors and was not impressed. The one I did like was kind of like a pipe tobacco flavor so I stuck with that. The owner took the time to show us what we needed to know. How to charge batteries, fill atomisers and so on. Home we went.
The following Tuesday my wife said she was going to try to use the ego all day instead of smoking regular cigarettes. At this point I had not tried mine. Her concern was if we did not like it we may need to try something else. So while "at work" she used the ego only.
After dinner we usually watch a few TV shows. That evening she lit up a Kool, took a drag, and said Ugh, that taste bad. Trust me, she liked her Kools, but liked the ego more. That made me think that I should use mine to make sure I could handle not smoking for a while.
The next morning I had a smoke while I charged my battery, filled my juice, and put everything together. The first TH caught me off guard, wow thats rough. Tried smoking like a cagar, much better. As I went through my morning computer routine I continued to use the ego. Tasted pretty good, nice flavor. After about 4 hrs still no NEED to have a smoke. Started to do some research on e-cigs on the PC. Liked what I saw about it being "a safer alternative" to regular cigarettes and decided right then I was done with analogs. That was the day I (We) quit smoking and started vaping.
Since that time we have embraced vaping, new flavors, new PV's, Tanks, Pass thrus, just enjoying the hobby aspect. OH, we haven't made the train ride, Yet.
