Hi guys, I'm new to vaping and just got myself a 510 to help me quit cigs.

I love how I can wake up and not feel like there's a ton of crap in my lungs. Or my breath doesn't smell. Only problem I've got right now is that it doesn't "burn" as much as a regular one... I still find myself occasionally craving analogues.

QUESTION: So I'm trying to refill my cartridges for my 510, and I dont know what I need to buy::
1) empty cartridges
2) e-liquid

Is this it? I just follow some instructions and drip the eliquid into the foamy thing inside the cartridge? Thinking about trying the apple flavored one.

Thanks for any information!

Ballz, do yourself a big, big favor and buy yourself a box of 2-2.5ohm cartomizers. The cartridge and atomizer system is so obsolete I can't believe anyone still tolerates it. You won't believe the difference and cartomizers are pretty cheap. You can get a 5 of them for less than the cost of one atomizer. Save the atomizer for testing juice. You'll be so glad you did!

Presumably, the burn you speak of is known in these parts as throat hit.

TH will vary from one juice formulation to the next, but as a general thing it's a question of nic level: the more nic, the better the burn.

As sailorman mentioned, cartridges are relics from the Pleistocene Epoch. Suggesting a make and model of cartomizer invariably results in a fracas between Boge or Ikenvape or Smoketech users, so I won't go there. Just don't make the mistake of getting a cheap one.

In the meantime, try this: take the silly cartridge off your 510, drop 2 or 3 drops into it and inhale. It's called direct dripping, and all the cartos and CE2s (or 3s, or 4s, or 5s) won't improve on it.

When you're using cartridges, the burn may very well be just that. Burning foam or burning atomizer coil.

With a battery that size, there won't be much debate about what make and model of cartomizer. It'll be more a quest to find one within the usable resistance range. 2.5ohms is probably ideal, but they won't be available in every brand. Or any brand. I just looked and couldn't find any 2.5ohm cartomizers.

Personally, I've used Fluxomizers in the 2.4-2.6ohm range with my old 510 battery and gotten pretty decent results. I might even start using it again.

So, I'm going to revise my initial recommendation. 1.7ohms is too low for a little battery. 2ohms is probably too low. 3ohms is definitely too high and 2.5ohms is hard to find. The best thing is a 2.4-2.6ohm Fluxomizer clearomizer. Go to Gotvapes now and grab a pack. They cost more than cartomizers, but they last way longer and you can clean them and use different flavors in them. You won't be sorry.

Did you get slim 510 batteries? If so, look into some Boge standard resistance cartomizers. That replaces the cartridge + atomizer.

So you technically just need:
- Your 510 battery (more than 1 preferred of course, as the battery drains quick)
- Charger (probably came with your 510)
- Cartomizers (they can last a few days - few weeks, depending how much you vape, defects, etc)
- Liquid

Ikenvape sells at least two at the 2.5Ω mark: the Fushions (which would require an 801/510 adapter) and the Gold V2s. Both are very good; neither are usually in stock. In fact IKV's website isn't even up at the moment.

Not much help, was that? :(

I was expecting a "yes, thats all you need". This stuff went wayyy over my head haha... still a newb.

SO.. I need a cartomizer. I have no clue how to pick one, so I'll just link one and you guys can tell me if I'm on the right track.

Kanger 510 Cartomizer( 2.7 +- 0.3 Ohms) Kanger 510 Cartomizer - 5 Pack

or

GotVapes Fluxomizer GotVapes FLuXomizer™ SUPREME CLEAR 510 REG .9ml 2.4-2.6ohm [gotvapes-clr510REG2.4-ce2supreme] - $8.45 : GotVapes.com, E-cigarette Supplies - Atomizers Cartomizers Mods Juice and more
(i just copy and pasted "2.4-2.6ohm Fluxomizer clearomizer" into google)

Also, I liked the simple look of the 510. Id rather not have anything I add onto it make it crazy flashy or anything.

You got the right Fluxomizer. they don't look flashy or crazy and they work like a dream.
The Kangers have too wide a range of resistances and it's too high. If it turns out at 2.4, it'll be o.k., but if it's 2.8 or 3ohms, it's too high. You need something more consistent.

Just try the Fluxomizers. They're right in the sweet spot for the ohms. You won't want regular cartomizers after using them anyway. Get 2 boxes and you'll be set for months. They last a long time and you can easily clean them.

Thanks sailorman.

Everything arrived in the mail yesterday. Making sure I do this correctly...

I pulled out the little plug at the top with a pair of tweazers. Fill the syringe up and squeeze it down the side. Fill up 3/4ths of the cartomizer and just put the plug back.

The plug isn't a full circle, it looks more like (___). Juice doesn't leak out from the straight parts?

When I do vape, sometimes I get a watery sound (like slurping an empty cup with a straw). Is this correct? When this happens, I sometimes taste some juice.

[edit: I had to watch a BUNCH of youtube videos to figure this thing out. No instructions or anything .. just this weird tube and syringe thing that looked like its from outer space. Goood thing I knew what a drip tip was .. that was in the pile of weird looking things also]

You don't need to pull the little plug out. It's easier if you don't because it's a little hard to get back in straight. I only take it off when I disassemble the whole thing for cleaning. Then, you put the plug back on before you slide the tube back over it all.

Stick the needle on the flat side of the plug, between the tube wall and the plug, not on one of the wick sides. Just jam it in there. The less you mess with the plug, the better. It's possible to pull too hard on the nipple and tear it at the base.

If you've taken the plug out, make sure it's seated back on well and that the notches are lined up with the wick. If it's not on right, you'll get juice in the center tube and it'll slurp and gurgle. That's why it's best not to disturb the plug at all except when the tube is off of it.

If you get that gurgling, it may mean the plug isn't on straight, or you got some juice in the center tube. Just take it off and blow through the drip tip into a paper towel to clear it out.

It won't leak through the flat sides of the plug. If you turn it upside down it won't leak. The worse that'll happen is you'll get some juice in the tube and need to blow it out again.

I've found that the less you fiddle with them, the better.

I tried your way. Got a new cartomizer and filled it up by sliding the syringe in the gap.

Its been laying on its side for a while now, and when I went to hit it, I still got the gurgle and liquid in my mouth.

any fix?

Is the bottom of the black tip flush with the top of the silicone plug? If not, juice can leak there.

Try unscrewing from the battery and blowing through it into a paper towel to clear the tube, then make sure to clear any liquid off the battery contacts before re-attaching. (Once I had a problem and it turned out to be a lot of juice in the battery connection that kept on getting sucked up - drove me nuts until I figured it out  )

Good Luck, and happy vaping!

Sooner or later, you will want to upgrade to something better, which is what I did. Those "buy 5 cartos at the gas station" get expensive fast. I was buying them every two days, and at $15 it was as expensive as regular cigs. Although, I have kept some of those and use the 510 as a backup when my eGo-C is charging. I just drip the juice on the poly and get a good 100 or so puffs out of one before I refill it. Good luck with your vaping!
