I haven't really started vaping yet (snail mail), but after spending a week reading ECF and watching youtube, I see many people have a few PVs, mods + accessories. I saw this lady's review on youtube with 11 different PVs, some are the same model but just different colors!

With new stuff continue to come out, and more 'gadgets' etc, how much do you actually spend on vaping?

I haven't got my first one yet and I'm already window shopping for another sexy one.

And if you want sexy, wait a couple of months. I think the Pitbull from SS will be pretty good. Perhaps not the same performance as the EGO, but will look great. I will probably buy one, depending on the final reviews after released...

of course they will also be twice as much as you spent on your EGO... but hey, sexy is expensive!!! LOL

Some tout money saving as a benefit of vaping. Well, that's up to you to enforce, it hasn't been my case in the nine months since I switched. No question about it, I've spent more on vaping than I would've spent on cigarettes, even at $70 per carton. But, in fairness, I've built quite a stockpile. I could run on what's on hand for at least six months ... likely eight.

A few things to consider here:

1) The hobby aspect of it is actually an aide to a lot of us (who tend to be obsessive/compulsive) in staying away from cigarettes.
2) The money spent now is probably minor compared to medical bills (hopefully) avoided.
3) Nine months in, and I can taste food, smell things (good and bad), I can breathe without wheezing, heck I can hold my breath for nearly two minutes, my smoker's cough is gone, I don't stink (unless I need a shower), I ain't getting ashes in hard to reach places in my car, and its windshield isn't coated in hard to remove smoke deposits ... heck, I quit, the benefits are too numerous.

In a nutshell, it's cost me more than smoking so far ... in dollars. The rewards exceed the expense. And, in the long haul, there may be some financial benefit. But, personally, I wouldn't care if it continues to cost a few more dollars than smoking did. The benefits outweigh the cost.

You spend however much you want to.

I've spent under $200 in almost 4 months. And I could have spent even less.

Most of that "extra" was just shipping costs, because I do trades and stuff. And I have more stuff than I need. I could get by with less than half of what I have, and having spent no more than $150 or so.

All you really need is 3 or 4 batteries, a few atomizers, and juice. And there are plenty of people who just stick to that. They don't tend to be as vocal on ECF, since for them it's not a hobby. But I know they exist - I've met them.

You don't have to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars to do this. Spend however much you want to, and get however involved you want to.

Very nice review. I was really hoping that switching to e-cigs would save me money. Maybe I won't stockpile as much as you and hopefully it will be cheaper.

Of course I love all the other benefits is the hopeful cost savings. Anyone actually experiencing a cost savings on e-cigs?

Yes. And that's really something considering how little I spent on cigs...

My monthly cig budget was $50. I bought discounted bulk rolling tobacco, and rolled my own with rice paper. I made smoking as cheap as it possibly can be, without growing your own tobacco.

After 3 months of vaping, I broke even, and now I am officially saving money.

Mistress summed it up perfectly :) I'm at about $200 in almost 3 months now, but my analog habit was about $120 a month so im ahead, if only slightly. My RoughStack should arrive tomorrow then its just the occasional atty order and juice. I run fairly lean with a couple of atomizers around and spare box of cartos. Other than that its usually no more than 2 varieties of juice. It really can be fairly inexpensive if you want it to be. The funniest part is the piece I use the most was a 5v passthrough for 17 bucks :)

i've definitely saved money so far, even though i'm buying new stuff still. i was a heavy smoker though and smoked top-brand cigarettes.

i hate to say it, but i feel like if i spent less time on ECF, i would spend even less on vaping supplies. every time somebody posts about their awesome new PV or tasty new juice they tried, it makes me want to order more stuff and i have to fight myself not to.

but yes, i have broken even at this point and am now officially saving money, even with the new stuff i just ordered, and in total with the new stuff i have at least a couple months worth of juice, cartos, batts, etc. but as a comparison to MistressNomad, i was spending upwards of $50 a week or more on analogs.

i spent a bunch in the first few months and then slowed down big time. now i just buy liquids i like, attys and batteries. once you get your setup it isn't that expensive to maintain.

after getting into mini bikes i've realized that "hobbies" like these can suck you down real quick. i've learned my lesson about getting too involved in something. i spent a lot of money on mini bike stuff just to get burned out on it (being a mod on a board will do that). i've got one engine right now with probably $1000 into it and it's been sitting for a year now. it runs like a raped ape but isn't worth selling. just watch where you spend your money. a hobby is a hobby and you might get burned out.

I believe that forums like this tend to attract the diehards. Not a bad thing. On Gun forums everyone shows off their arsenals, On Car forums everyone shows off their newest projects, etc etc. Its just the internet. There are always the diehards who like having a dozen PV's, and then there are those who have 1-2 and a few juices and do just fine. These diehards are the ones who come up with new tricks and mods that the casual guys can use. Personally I have 2 egos and close to a dozen flavors. I have spent less than $200. I would probably spend that in two months on tobacco products, so I feel its a good investment.

This is so true. I can't even tell you how many hobbies I'be gotten totally obsessed with and dropped like a sack of bricks a few months later. I'm hoping vaping doesn't turn out like that for me. I do have a tendency to get REALLY into something. Some call it obsessed. ;)

So yeah, it's easy to sink a few thousand bucks into vaping (yes, really) if you're that type of person. Fortunately for me my budget is self-limiting or I'd have everything by now.

My original reply about the Pit-bull got things rolling here i see... lol. i agree with all of this. I spent "at least" $250/month on analogs. For that amount i could buy a new EGO kit EVERY two weeks WITH juice and STILL be ahead of the game financially. Not sure what i would do with 25 sets of EGO's a year, just saying...This also presumes that i quit analogs completely - which i have not done yet. i have dropped from over 1.5 packs a day to about half a pack. So, I think that it is better than nothing. 20 analogs not going into me per day is a rather fair amount.

I've definitely become a hobbyist and want to try it all. Right now I have one pv but I'm experimenting with different parts. I got heavily into the juice thing too so I buy every time my favorite supplier has a sale LOL. I'm only in my first month and have spent more than I should have but I figure once I figure out what I really like I can settle down and stick to that unless there's something I HAVE to have. I switched because my hubby and I just couldn't afford our combined habits so I figure that no matter how much I spend it's got to be better than blowing through a pack in less than a day at $7+/$52 per carton.

BTW: MissN, your videos rock and I watched every one when I was trying to decide on what to buy. As a noob, thanks so much for making those!

I'm also the 'dive in head first' type of person and vaping was no different.
At this point (10 days since my first order) I probably have well over $100 worth of random stuff that I could do without. But now that I finally found the hardware I believe to be right for me the spending should slow down significantly and maybe in a couple months I will see some savings. Cigs are $7.50 here so maybe it won't take that long at a little over a pack/day.
I went from a Riva, to an ego (originally planned on that being my backup), LR attys, mega attys, carts, and a huge supply of DIY goodies.
But my tobacco habit was just slowly getting worse so everyday I go without an analog I am a happy camper:)

I find myself doing this as a hobby now also. Seems the more new stuff I try and the better the new stuff is the less I want to smoke at all. I am new to this only about a month solid and have spent about $150 but that was because I didnt research enough and wasted money on a Blu first. Now I spend most on Juice and carts for my day to day vaping, but I have a few buddies i got to do it and they only spend on carts pre filled and no more now.

It's definitely more of a hobby for us as well. We've spent probably close to $1500 in about 2 months time but we were spending almost $400 on smoking. We also buy stuff for my MIL and have converted 6 people. Some of our original stock went to them so they could try it. We also contribute small things to my Mom and daughter.

We've got our juices down with DIY (except for the Swedish Fish and I'll just order that from VaporRenu) and have a decent stock of carts, BFM, extra batteries, chargers, etc. Our downfall is the mods. Randy has an SB and I have a BB. I also just got a Hendu (couldn't wait for the PitBull) and Randy is anxiously awaiting the release of the GLV3. I'm also really diggin' on the Super-T Mfg. Precise 10440 and something about those Chucks really has me curious. We will be one of those couples that has a ton of mods between us.

We don't half step on anything we get into, we either go balls to the wall or not at all. Sometimes it works out great, like with vaping, and sometimes not so much. It doesn't help that both of us has some OCD and addictive personalities and we feed off of each other's needs and wants. If one of us says, oooooh that's shiney, I like that. Hell won't have it until its purchased and given as a gift just to see the other's eyes light up.

Our employee, who originally got ust started vaping, doesn't understand the obsession at all and stated quite frankly the other day that all we were doing was getting bigger batteries. We were like...WELL DUH! Yes, we know there's much more to it than that but since he's not serious about vaping at all he doesn't understand the obsession or progression at all. Did I just use the word obsession twice in the same paragraph. Dang, now I'm gonna need an intervention and a support group.

It can be done successfully much cheaper than what we have for sure and I applaud those that have.

I have been spending more than i normally would on supplies. Its this FDA apeal that has me a bit on edge. The last thing i want is to find something that actually works for me... only to have it torn away by how it is regulated. So, i have been stocking up on the hardware involved.

For example, i just purchased 25 eGo 510 atomizers for 125 USD. I wouldnt normally spend that much, 25 atomizers would last a long long time. But those havent even come in yet. For what i actually use, i have spent 130 dollars total for 21 days with fluid for ~35 days (total).

Once you have your hardware concerns out of the way, your just purchasing fluid. But, getting those hardware concerns under control can be an issue for your wallet. All that being said, i am able to stock pile (horde) hardware and still stay below how much i spent on analogs! I just cant purchase any thing more this week which is ok, i have tons of stuff to last me until Tuedsay. Hehe, Tuesday is the next day i break even.

Just try to keep it under how much you would normally spend on cigarettes, and you notice no differance. Noone says you need to purchase your entire set up in one transaction.
