Hello everyone. Today is my first day of using my new ecig. I have COPD and have had pnemonia 2 times since October. I really want this vaping adventure to work. I have a question, it seems no matter how many times I hit the ecig I still have an overwhelming desire for a real cigarette. How soon before this crippling desire dissipates?

Thanks for all your help!!!

It will depend on your equipment and the nicotine strength you are using. That said, starting out I vaped near constantly (time outs to eat) every waking minute. After a while I was able to set it down for a few minutes, then an hour, finally much longer.

If you need to up the strength of your eliquid, it won't harm you. I used 36mg for a long time before being able to lessen it to 30mg and much less today.

The craving will lessen if you're getting a sufficient nic fix, it should be much less of a "crippling desire" than cold turkey, but is still going to be a change from smoking.

If you can post to ECF when you're getting urges, can't smoke when you're typing...;)

I started 4 1/2 years ago on a little cig-sized device with 24mg nic.

Cigarette smoke is fine particles that are absorbed in seconds...vapor is larger droplets that take minutes. I found (especially that first morning vape) that it might take 45 minutes of vaping to get over a craving.

If you can't vape thru the cravings, consider upping the nicotine level.

I never smoked much, but I preferred stronger cig's
I bought the supposed "best e-cig" in the UK and it was a waste of time. All the claims they made were either straight lies or marketing hyperbole.
$800 in and I was worrying that I'd been conned, not to mention the accompanying mental stress.
Then I turned to the internet... the 'good' side of the internet where people help each other rather than try and make millions selling near-pointless products.
Quitting smoking is not easy even with an e-cig. First and foremost though you need a satisfying device and enough nicotine so all you are dealing with is the other stuff in cigarettes.
You can do it!

Not going to Sugar Coat it. The first couple of Days for Me when I switched were Hard.

I needed to Up my Nicotine amount. That was Better. But a Certain amount of "Hell No. I'm Not Going to Smoke Today" was needed.

You can Make It. Just don't sit in one place Too Long. Or be around things that make you Think about Smoking.

I was just the opposite. For me, it was as easy as falling off a log, even after 40 years of smoking. I tried a million times, and even vaped for a while, but nothing worked. What worked for me this time was so simple yet so effective that I slap myself for not doing it sooner. DON'T THINK ABOUT IT!

That's it. Even when I quit smoking, I was thinking about smoking. How much I wanted one, wondering who I could bum one off of, maybe tapering off would be better, how long has it been, etc. This time I decided to quit or stop trying. So whenever I wanted a smoke, I just said I can't have one, so might as well think of something else. Incredibly, I'd notice it has been hours, then days. It really does work. Think about how antsy you get waiting for something in the mail, or that vacation coming up. You're absorbed with it. If you just purposefully think about something else, you will literally forget about it.

Hi, and congrats on the wise decision.

The first few days are a bit tough, but the good news is that the positive effects also start showing really quick. You can smell and taste things again, you don't spit a ton of crap in the morning. You don't lose your breath out of nowhere...

What helped me was to try and turn it into a hobby. I've read a ton of stuff and watched a million videos. Decided to make my own juice and to build my own coils since very early.. Although the juices sucked really bad in the beginning, that kind of thing helped me staying motivated.

I noticed also that for me it wasn't just the nicotine. The volume of vapor had a big part in making it a satisfying experience. High nic and not much vapor wouldn't really work for me and I would still crave for a cancer stick. You really need to find your "thing".

We all work differently, so I wish you the best of luck on this.

Happy vaping!

Hi and welcome- yes ecigs and Will Power! You just have to be firm with yourself, if you really want to quit! It took me a few weeks to really get over the cigarette craving! I dual used for about 2 weeks cutting back and then using regular cigs(yuck) instead of my menthols and set a quit date- I just vaped more and said NO to my cigarettes!
Best of luck to you- yes it is hard , but you can do it!
I am just over 2 years cigarette free - quit my 30+ year cigarette smoking, by vaping and will power!
Stay Strong and Vape On!

I knew from the get-go, that for me personally, going Cold Turkey and switching immediately to vaping...wouldn't work for me. I'd had my smoking habit for 42+ years at 1 - 1 1/2 PAD.

Instead, I decided to dual use, and just slowly taper off the smokes while substituting vaping for the ciggies I didn't have each day. I set out a certain amount of cigarettes each day, and that was all I could have that day. Kept it at the same number/day for a week. The next week, I cut that number down, then the next week did the same, etc., etc.

It took me from Nov. 2013 to Jan. 14, 2014 to get down to having my last cigarette and being a full-time vaper. It worked, and I know I'll never have another cigarette. I've never craved one, and I can even be around smokers and still don't want one. The smell is actually not good to me at all. Smells like that stale, nasty, ashtray I used to smell like all the time!

There are lots of different paths to quitting that have worked for those of us who've done it with the help of vaping. You just need to find the one that works for you personally. Good luck, and keep trying!

EDIT: By the way, I'd been diagnosed with mild COPD about 8-10 years before I began vaping. Since I've quit smoking, X-rays no longer show evidence of the COPD, my latest spirometer test literally amazed my doctor (because the results were so great), and at every check-up...he says my lungs sound clear, which they hadn't for years and years. So hang in there with vaping!

Welcome and glad you joined. I smoked for over 50 yrs.,so, I kind of know where you are coming from. Suggest, go with the flow and try to stick with vaping. If you have to smoke (all folks are different) go ahead, but, what I did was I tried to make vaping my primary go to. After a while you will find that vaping is so much more than smoking.
Advantages:
Health
Taste
Cost (if important)
Near absence of lingering smell
Cleanliness
Hobby
Fun
Stealthy
Less social stigma
Much more too numerous to list.

Hello and welcome! What type of device are you using? How much did you smoke? What is the amount of nicotine in your juice?
I purchased an ego AIO and the sales clerk recommend I start with 16mg. I do not know anyone who quit smoking with the help of vaping. I tried to do some research on line, but all I found was data over load. This led me to go into a local vaping store and ask for their recommendation. I hope I have not purchased an inferior product. I also believe part of my problem is not knowing the correct way to vape in order to obtain the most satisfying results. Also, the 2 flavors of juice I purchased were flavors of food and candy which I like and enjoy, but both tasted very artificial and had a lingering after taste. I finally hooked up with a relative who quit smoking by vaping. They suggested I try a stronger nicotine content, and try caramel cappuccino flavor. I really enjoy the flavor, but am not certain I am vaping correctly in order to get the most from the nicotine. I am just drawing in and almost instantly exhaling the vapor. From what I am reading from all your posts, I don't believe I am vaping correctly. Thanks for all the feedback on my first post, your input really helped me a lot!!! Now can all of you successful vaping experts talk me through this issue?

The eGo AIO is Good unit. And it sound like you are Finding that it is as Much the e-Liquid as it is the Hardware.

I really Don't think there is a Right and a Wrong way to Vape as long as it tastes good and you Not getting "Dry Hits". I Vape much like I Smoked. The only real Difference is I take a Longer, Slow Hit.
