This morning while on my way to work my ears perked up as they brought Kallman on to talk about the new ban he implemented on vaping. He went on to say that he was happy to announce that he was successful in banning sales of ecigs to anyone under 18. And prevented vending machines from selling ecigs. He also noted that these egigs contained dangerous chemicals that are addictive and hazardous to health. His ban would protect children everywhere, as ecig use has been on the rise among high school kids. A cop also came on stating he was glad to see this happen, because he has been finding many egics that have been used to smoke ... oil. Hopefully this takes it out of the hands of kids and “off the streets” (I laughed when he said this). The commissioner mentioned Adults would still be able to buy ecigs, but were highly cautioned to use their discretion and stay away from the dangerous devices.

I thought the sale to minors was always prohibited.

I honestly wish all states would enact laws prohibiting the sale of electronic cigarettes, liquids etc to minors / those under the legal age to buy cigarettes or even liquor, if they feel the need to reach that high. Why? So they can get over the "what about the children" spew that they're currently sticking with.

With those laws in effect, any store that sales to a minor will be fined and those that continue to sell will be shut down. Online shops would simply need to integrate age verification similar to what sites that sell liquor do, which doesn't integrate with any sort of system or back-end, it simply asks them to tell them how old they are and that's it.

If that's all the liquor/spirits industry needs, then that's all we need. Simple, to the point and integrating something like that doesn't cost as much as store owners make it out to (a cheap programmer could do it for $100 or less in just a few hours).

Good post, thx!

Actually I don't think this article was so horrible, compared to the usual nonsense. My understanding is that CASAA strongly supports bans on sales to minors.

twgbonehead, the "usual incredibly stupid comments by public officials" are (of course) exactly as you describe. (That said, the article could be a whole lot worse).

I'd like to humbly suggest that a letter to the editor is merited, perhaps from those who live in the area. I'm only a noob, perhaps others may suggest content?
