This is absolutely amazing and would solve a lot of issues with batteries. Could this be the technology that will change the future of e-cig or would a battery like this affect profits of our vendors in a negative way?

An Orlando-based battery developer is announcing today that it has created a new generation of solid-state battery technology that "will render traditional chemical batteries obsolete."

Orlando battery developer claims major breakthrough - OrlandoSentinel.com

Just to clarify, they had a full story on the news today. Some of the batteries are extremely small and never have to be recharged (ever). I cant find the full news story but its amazing.

Several things that stood out were they mentioned "large format batteries" several times I guess that means large size? Also they "have virtually no discharge" when stored sounds nice. And of course greater energy density is always good.

Not sure if this can be applied to small batteries. Even so it is interesting for use anywhere there is a need for large batteries like vehicles and maybe backup power supply.

the battery they showed on the news last night was a proto type and they clearly stated it was still in testing. It was very thin and looked approx the the size of a nicoderm patch (how ironic). The news reporter stated that the batteries stayed charge by all forms of energy including vibrations from a car to energy of your own body. They would not need to be plugged into to any energy source. According to the news report the batteries would last indefinitally but personally i find this hard to believe.

However, even a battery that used no electric or doesnt need to be plugged in would be a vast improvement. Apparently the company is working on a prototype for laptops. If this battery really does what the news stated, our houses could essentially be nearly electric free in the future. Imagine, anything from electric toothbrushes, remote controls, tv's, to coffeepots could utilize this type of battery. Of course, if i only had enough money to buy 1 of these batteries it would be for my pv lol.

maybe its to good to be true but i choose to look at the glass half full :)

At first, I read this and started researching it thinking "scam scam scam", but it does actually appear to be legit. Forget about ecigs, this innovation could be what allows us all to switch over to electric cars. It could be a major game changer.

Don't associate it with electronic cars or we will never see it in production for anything. Current electric cars do not have enough parts that have to be replaced for the auto industry to make money off of us and if it needs no charge, the energy/oil industry won't make money. Someone will quickly buy up the patent and bury it. If the technology could work for electric cars, we will never see it as an ecig battery.

For that matter, I could see Duracell paying a fortune to buy and bury the patent for this. Availability of this battery would put alot of people out of business. I will be interested if it is still around a year from now.

    that would be sweet.

If you read their web site it says NOTHING about not having to charge them , your reporter is a bit over zealous and is dead wrong ! looking for ratings I suppose.
However higher charge ( Hence meaning they have to be charged ) densities are a GREAT thing ! and very low self discharge.

The notion that electric cars were economically feasible but withheld due to some conspiracy is silly. There's a lot of money to be made with electric cars, and the more economically feasible they become, the more common they will become. Previous efforts were just before their time, they failed for good reasons.

True. I was going to mention that before, but I forgot. Of course you have to charge them, it's not like infinite energy or something. That's what made me start reading this with a very skeptical eye.
