Over the course of that last year, I have developed a system in which the weight variance question has had little or no effect on final product. I never make a batch less than 120 mls and more often that not the batch size is greater that 500 mls. Errors of 1 gram in a 500 ml batch doesn't effect the end product enough to cause a problem with taste or nic value. Since any calculated error is across the entire spectrum of ingredients, the precentage values are equalized. I appreciate that there are some that are very interested in being exact.

I am considering adding a change (two changes) and I would like some thoughts/feedback.
1. Currently when the "Calculate weight based on PG/VG %" is clicked I calculate the weight based on the percentage of PG and VG. I am going to also add consideration for the amount of nicotine in the ingredient.

2. When the save button is clicked for an ingredient I am going to calculate the weight based on PG, VG and Nicotine (if present) and see if the weight entered is within range of the calculated weight. If the weight is not within range, generate and "are you sure" type of message providing the calculated value. Thoughts? What is within range, +- 0.001? +- 0.01?

Also, while googling for the weight of Nicotine I ran across different stated values for the weight of PG and VG. Does anyone know the official weight of PG & VG? The weight values which I am using, which may be slightly off are:
PG - 1.036 (Some sites are stating 1.038)
VG - 1.249 (Some sites are stating 1.26)
Nicotine, pure nicotine is 1.01 but I will adjust this value based on the stated mg.
All non PG/VG/Nic will use 1.0.

I would like to suggest this link to you HotRod. Botboy141 Guide to Mixing By Weight • /r/DIY_eJuice. Your current values are different and lot of the other calculators are using this I would guess as to the values seen in them. I just simply changed my values on your calculator and don't have an issue. This page goes further then the 3 listed above, it includes weights of nicotine in a lot of different combinations as well.

I don't even know that info so it's whatever the default is. I mean I set it to 50/50 100mg but don't know the weight

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You can manually set these weights when you enter your nicotine to your ingredients list. Hope this helps.
  • Weight of Pure Nicotine: 1.01 grams per ml

  • Weight of 100mg in PG: 1.035 grams per ml

  • Weight of 60mg in PG: 1.03632 grams per ml

  • Weight of 50mg in PG: 1.0366 grams per ml

  • Weight of 48mg in PG: 1.036656 grams per ml

  • Weight of 36mg in PG: 1.036992 grams per ml

  • Weight of 24mg in PG: 1.037328 grams per ml

  • Weight of 100mg in VG: 1.235 grams per ml

  • Weight of 60mg in VG: 1.245 grams per ml

  • Weight of 50mg in VG: 1.2475 grams per ml

  • Weight of 48mg in VG: 1.248 grams per ml

  • Weight of 36mg in VG: 1.251 grams per ml

  • Weight of 24mg in VG: 1.254 grams per ml

This may be a stupid question (but maybe not), but I couldn't figure out how to search the thread for questions already asked (new to thread and threads in general). I'm sure it's been asked dozens of times, but is this wonderful calculator available for an android device yet? I had a devil of a time downloading the software and trying to figure out what was wrong with installing it, until I realized it was in a .zip file. Stupid me. There, I said it. You don't have to... And if someone could point me to the correct way to search the thread for already inquired-upon ideas, please, I would be so grateful.

By the way, I'm Magnus. new to DIY, not new to vaping (new to threads, obviously, too).

Best,
Magnus

Windows devices only I believe.

There is a checkbox in the search box to search this thread only:

Fozzy,

Thanks so much for the info. I'm out of luck, as I work on a Mac and tablet only. Too bad. It looks like a great calculator. I wonder if there's a comparable (maybe not exactly, but at least with the cost calculator and ability to change recipes after-the-fact) calculator on the market that would work on either a Mac or an android device... I'll have to keep searching I suppose.

And thanks for the info about the search function. Funny, my tablet wasn't giving me the drop-down menu at all on my first go 'round. It does now. But when I first entered the page I wasn't getting it at all. Mind you, I was having other troubles with it, too, at the time. Like, my keyboard wasn't working with the bluetooth of the tablet, for one. But thanks for this. I really appreciate it. Since all is working now, I can keep track of whether a version of the calculator comes out for android in the future...

Best,
Magnus

There have been a few posts the past 2 months on successfully getting it to work on iOS. Try searching for "mac" in this thread only.

Not iOS, Mac OsX (a Unix derivative) that runs on macbooks etc. iOS runs on the iPhone/iPad. Different but related OS's. But under Mac OsX, I am running the calculator under wine. There are a few bugs (caused by wine not HR) but I live with them and get by fine. I very much doubt you would get wine running under Android and/or iOS though.

    If I had more time....

I have had it running under wine in Linux for a year+ with no problems.

Rod, a couple more on my wish-list:
    1) An option to turn off warnings for ingredients that have 0 (zero) Inventory amount. This would allow you to maintain ingredients in the database even if you don't necessarily use them and stop the nagging message.
    2) A mechanism to "lock" a recipe, but still alow you to make recipe and adjust the steep days etc. Maybe just lock the recipe ingredients.

A bug, or maybe a feature error: In the Ingredients Editor, if an ingredient is locked, you cant open the drop down box to look at which recipes use the ingredient. At least on the Mac/Wine version, I have to unlock the ingredient first so I can access the dropdown then re-lock it.

I had to reset my PC and i have everything backed up. How do i re import my label settings?
Click "File->Restore from backups" and this will open a window. At the bottom you will see an option to "Restore label definitions" and there is also a "Restore sheet definitions".
