Any thoughts on how recipe categories should work? Adding a field on the Window to categorize the recipe is only half it. How should the category be used?
About the only thing you could do is filter or sort based on the recipe flavor profile

I would imagine that the easiest solution would be to sort the recipes by adding another field to View > Sort Recipes. Currently the three options reference user entered values. This is similar to a customer walking into The Vapor Chef's store and asking what the flavor profile of "Honey Pearry" would be. I'm certain that the response from the employee would contain descriptions of fruit, as opposed to asking for a profile of "Southern Hospitality", both of which are tasty, but completely opposite.

Another question I have is that I do use the Category Name field in the Ingredient Editor, but if I'm overlooking something, there's not way to use that information when you are adding ingredients into the recipe. You have to know what the name of the flavor is in order to know the flavor profile of that ingredient, i.e. I currently have 542 entries in my ingredient database, albeit many duplicates that I haven't merged, but let's say that I want to use a creamy flavor. Do I use FA Vienna Cream, Catalan Cream, Fresh Cream? I know that as a programmer, this might be requesting too much, but if it was a viable option, I would use it.

Is there any way that I can donate some money to you for the time and effort that you've put into this fine software? I've got a few dollars in the PayPal account.

I have the recipe category on my "to-do" list.
There is a way to put the "Category" for ingredients to use. Go to the "Tools->Options", Ingredient tab and check the "Display ingredients by category". After checking this go to a recipe and click the dropdown list of an ingredient in your recipe. If you have provided categories for ingredients you will notice that the dropdown list shows your categories as well as uncategorized ingredients. Click on one of the categories and you will see a list of all of the ingredients in that category.

First of all this is a really great tool. I just recently started to use it and it has worked awesome. I will admit that I haven't read every post in this thread, but I did try to search for what I was looking for and couldn't find it. Having said that, I appologize for the following question if it has already been covered.

I took some of my 50/50 PG/VG 100 mg nic and, using the Dilute Nic tool, cut some down to a 125 ml bottle of 50/50 PG/VG 60 mg Nic. This required 75 mils of nic and 50 mils each of VG and PG. I named the new nic and saved it. i looked in my ingredients list and verified the new nic was there. However I noticed that my 100 mg nic was at the same inventory amount before I did the dilute. I thought that since I started with 900 ml of nic and cut 75 ml out, that my inventory would say 825 ml of 100 mg nic. I noticed that my original amount of PG and VG didn't drop either.

So, long story for a simple question, does the calculator decrease your current inventory of Nic, VG, and PG when you perform a Dilute? If so, then I must have done something wrong.

Thanks again for the great calculator.

No, the dilute nicotine window was not adjusting inventory amounts but I just made a change that will be included in the next version to adjust the inventory amounts. There will be a checkbox on the window for "Update inventory" which will be checked by default. When you save the new nicotine ingredient all ingredients will be updated appropriately.

I absolutely love this software.. I imported my EJuice me up recipes and mergered my flavors. Some were misspelled, added brand price and amount. I had it calculate flavors as default pg weight. Do I need to change that? I've measured different flavors and it's either 1.01,1.02,or 1.03grams. Anyone else change them from default

I'm glad you like it and I am always looking for ideas on how to make it better, input (bad or good) is welcome.
All ingredients can have different weights. If you have manually weighed them, use your weight. The calculator can automatically calculate weights based on their PG/VG percentages and that will get you close if you don't care about small variations (which usually doesn't make a noticeable difference).

If I were using an old original version of this program would all of my current info be saved if I wanted to update to the newest version so I had utilization of the new features? I love this program so much! It's so much better than anything else I've found for eliquid and without it I would be lost trying to create complex layered recipes. I don't want to lose all of the work and data entry I've already added over the last 2 years of using this program so I'm a little apprehensive about updating...

You will not loose any data or functionality when you upgrade to newer versions. I do everything I can to make newer versions backwards compatible with older versions, files and settings.

Finally got my 15 posts so I can say thanks HotRod for this absolutely superb application.

Only one thing that would be a nice to have, is I noticed the e-liquidrecipes site now allow you to convert your recipe to a flavour base which might be very handy for people who are always making the same mix up.

Other than that, brilliant. I store my datafiles in my Microsoft OneDrive so I can access the application from multiple locations.

It does have that feature. Start a new recipe and add all your flavors. Set the amount you want to make (10mL, 30mL, etc..) then click on the large % at the top left. Change the % total at the top to 100% and click apply. And voila! Flavor base :)

I just made version 5.0.0.5 available. The updates include:

1. Added option in the right-click context menu on the main recipe window to copy the current recipe to the clipboard is "markdown" format which is used on at Reddit.com.

2. On the dilute nicotine window I added a checkbox indicating the inventory of the ingredients should be updated when the new nicotine ingredient is saved.

3. Changed the format of plain text when copied to the clipboard to be more consistent with the other formats that are copied to the clipboard.

I also recommend that you review the ReadMe file for the V5.0.0.5 changes.

Really nice calculator, trying to set it up now. One thing that springs to mind, is that this is probably used by allot of people outside of the US, like me. And I did convert the costs to NOK, so an option to just hide the dollar sign on cost, or just add a selfdefined currency would be nice. Just nitpicking. :p
Anyhow, really nice tool.

Hey Hotrod. Is there a way to have more than 1 VG or PG vendor? I use a mix for VG see http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/diy-e-liquid/646900-add-salt.html post #2. Once I make this mix I have to add it as a flavor but would rather have it as a choice for VG. No biggie if it can't be done. Thanks for a great program. I mix by weight and this is the only program I know of that lets you do that.

I just wanted to say I love your program. Being a developer myself I love to see other people making cool stuff like this and I plan to donate when I get some extra funds. On the same topic as the poster above me... I would also like to see a way to add PG and VG to the inventory much like what is possible with flavors. I'd like to keep track of PG and VG from other vendors and such instead of it all just being put together. In addition, a way to add dry additives like menthol crystals or ethyl malto powder to the inventory and also mix with them would be nice. Thank you so much for you program its the best one out there.
