hello everybody. my name is james and i i used to be a smoker. (sounds like im at an AA meeting, LOL). i smoked cigarettes for 10+ years at a rate of almost 3 packs a day. i quit last year with the help of chantix, managed to be nicotine free for nearly a year, but stresses added up and i found myself smoking "black and mild" pipe-tobacco cigars, at first just occasionally, but now inhaling them and feeling the addiction and temptation to go back to cigarettes again.

i stumbled upon e-cigarettes on the internet (duh), thought it might be a better way to satisfy my nicotine jones and i found the cheapest place to buy them to try for a giggle was dealextreme.com, some kind of china-based site with loads of gadgets for cheap. the model i purchased was called "Health E-Cigarette" and it came with about 10 cartridges. ive been lurking here for a few hours and realized that i probably bought the cheapest piece of hong kong crap available, but it does appear that lots of these e-cigs use a somewhat common design. the cartidges i received were marked with a check-box-type labeling, the categories being high/med/low/no. the ones i got have "no" checked... am i correct in assuming that these cartridges probably dont contain nicotine? upon first trying them out, i did not feel anything close to a cigarette "buzz". can i buy replacement cartridges that do contain a smalll amount of nicotine? i can post up a link or picture of the device i received if that helps at all... i dont know if theres a "standard" size or style of cartridge.

If I'm looking at the right thing it looks like you bought an E-cigar. You are right in your assumption that it's no nicotine. I'd suggest buying some juice and topping off the cartridges instead of buying new ones before you know you like it.

Oh and just my opinion.. but I think the 901's are the most similar to smoking a "real" cigarette. I never tried the cigars.. and I couldn't stand the penstyles (infact I gave both of my penstyles to one of my co workers for free just to get them out of my room) I always buy from phil at e-smokeytreats.com for loads of reasons, mostly for the bang-buck ratio.. He's got good pricing and I've never received a dud from him

I, too, like dealing with Phil. so far, I've gotten my shipments from him within 2 days. and everything I have is working 100%. not bad on prices at all. I would recommend you get a 901 from his site. that's the only e-cig I have at the moment, and I absolutely love it.

alpine, just fyi, you're not going to get a "buzz" like from a cigarette. similar concept, not the same thing though.

lack of oxygen from inhaling smoke can give you a "buzz" and make you feel lightheaded ;)

Sorry but I have to disagree with you on this one. When I first got my 901 I ordered high strength strawberry carts.. and well lets just say I'm more addicted to strawberry flavored anything than I am to nicotine and I was sucking on the darned thing like a pacifier (alternating between 2 901's when each started to get warm) after about an hour I managed to make myself high  It was great :p but now I'm used to it and cant accomplish it anymore :( oh wells.. still get my strawberry & nic fixes at the same time hehe

i think what i have is a "pen-style". here's the link to what i bought- (you have to add "www" since i dont have enough posts to link)

uh.. nicotine should give you quite a buzz, mate. but, like any other drug, the more you use it the less it works. try not using nicotine for a few days/hours (depending on your tolerance level) and then having a smoke... thats not oxygen deprivation, LOL. i remember the first time i had a smoke after about 9 months of being tobacco free (never should have done it BTW), it was like a full body orgasm, LOL. if you could obtain that by just holding your breath for a few moments, nobody would bother with any drugs ;)

If "no" is checked that would be zero nicotine. I believe you can buy nicotine refills for those however I'm not familiar enough with Health models to direct you. Sorry!

yeah, the site that i originally purchased the device from does not allow you to choose strengths of refills! bizarre, but thats DX for you. i purchased some of these: "electronic-cigz.com/m401-ultra-premium-ecartridge-wjohnson-creek-smoke-ju401.html"

and hopefully they will work with my device; or at least be similar enough that i can modify them to work.

It's definitely not a penstyle. It might be a supermini.

Re: "oxygen deprivation" not quite what you're thinking. ;) It has to do with a shot of carbon monoxide in cigs supposedly doing a kind of momentary brain paralysis. Also there is ammonia in cigs to speed the nicotine shot and formulation to have what is called a certain amount of "freebase nicotine" in the initial puffs. You won't get exactly that same buzz from other forms of nic.

No those 401 carts probably won't fit, but yeah you might be able to make them work somehow. Don't toss your original cartridge plastics.

hopefully i can make them work.. if i can get my nic fix from that and i like it, ill use them up then maybe invest in a more common device.

i'm sorry, you guys are right, i mean yes you will feel the nic effects, but as far as being the same "buzz" as a cig? no, at least, i've not felt that. :)

i did sound a bit misleading, heh, but i can count on the forum to clarify for me!

cigarettes are designed to do one thing: get nicotine into your bloodstream as quickly as possible, LOL. my point was, someone who rarely or never uses nicotine will certainly get the good "buzz" from ingesting it in any form, although if im right about how these devices work; it would probably be more like the nicotine gum or lozenge than a cigarette.

good news, the Johnson Creek M401 carts can be made to fit this Health-E-Cigarette model! all you need to do is push out the actual carts from their respective filter casings and swap them. works great! i received 'original tobacco' and 'hawaiian kona coffee' in low and high strengths respectively. (thought i ordered both in low, but thats ok). they are great, lots more vapor than the original carts that came with the device and certainly delivers plenty of nicotine.
