Hello everyone!
I'm a new e-Cig user who just started yesterday and I'm really enjoying it already. For the first time in at least a decade I went 6 hours without smoking a single analog cigarette yesterday, and I have my new e-Cig to thank for it :D

After spending a good two weeks or so reading everything I could find regarding newbie info on this forum I went ahead and ordered a Joye 510, spare carts, and a PCC from eCigExpress and a variety of tobacco flavored samplers from VapeRite last saturday and got both packages in the mail yesterday. I started off with all my e-Liquid being 6mg strength, since my only previous experience with an e-Cig was sampling a local friend's Blu with 12mg pre-filled carts and I found the 12mg to be a bit too strong for my liking (up to this point I've been a half-a-pack-a-day American Spirit smoker).

My goal is to transition from smoking analogs to vaping the e-Cig exclusively, and so far it's going quite well. Based on my initial experience I don't think I'll have a whole lot of trouble making the switch, but there is one thing that I've been finding rather unpleasant about my vaping experience so far. What's been bothering me is that most of the time when I vape on my 510 I get a really harsh scratchy feeling in my throat and lungs. It's not what I'd think of as a "throat hit", just a burning scratchy sensation. I can't pin down exactly when or why it happens so I'm hoping to find out if this is normal or not? The only liquid I've been vaping so far is VapeRite's standard Organic Tobacco flavor and VapeRite's RY4, but it happens regularly with both of them regardless of if I'm using a freshly filled cart or if the cart is getting low. It seems to happen a bit less if I direct drip, but even then there's still some unpleasant throat and lung scratchiness going on. After vaping for 5 minutes or so the sensation becomes something pretty similar to having heart burn.

Any ideas on what could be causing this?

First, are you drinking extra water? It becomes automatic, but a degree of hoarseness is common -- not sure if this is what you're talking about.

Another thing is that some people have an allergy to either PG or VG. If both liquids, for instance, are mainly PG, you might want to try an all VG liquid to see if that changes things.

(I'm a mutt, can handle both fine, but my sister, for example, turns out to be PG allergic, does fine now that she has VG liquids.)

Thanks for all the great replies everyone! I'll be sure to drink lots of water, keep vaping, and just wait for it to pass. The throat and lung irritation when I vape isn't so bad, but feeling like I have constant heart burn isn't very much fun. Knowing that it will pass does make me feel a lot more at ease about it though :)

Next time I order some more liquid I'll have to try some all VG based ones and see how that sits. I think I may have to give 12mg a try again as well, since 6mg doesn't seem to give me that nicotine kick in the pants I need to wake up in the morning (I had to smoke an analog this morning to un-groggy-ify). The 6mg has been good throughout the day so far, but I think some 12mg will be needed for the mornings.

Thank you again for all the advice everyone! I'll keep at it and with any luck I'll be able to shelve the analogs in the not too distant future :vapor:
