Hey all!

So this is my third attempt to make the switch from cancer sticks to ecigs. With my first baby girl being born at the end of August the wife is insisting I quit the smokes. I range between a half a pack to a pack a day of Malboro Menthol ultralights.

My first attempt was with a epuffer phantom HD2. I went with 06mg menthol liquid. Overall I didn't like the unit. It was far too big and bulky, the plastic Reservoir tips leaked like mad, not much of any vapor production and not much throat hit. Was back on smokes shortly afterwards.

attempt number two I grabbed a disposable blu menthol. While the size was far better and felt more natural, again I wasn't impressed with the throat hit. Didn't work for me. Back to regular smokes.

So for this attempt I knew I wanted something roughly the same size as a regular cig. I did some google searching and first came across the V2. Read some reviews on here and noticed a lot of people mention the Halo C6 and their great juices. So I checked it out, did some more reading on here and other places around the net and after seeing so many positive reviews I decided to go for it.

Placed my order late Friday night. I went with the Emerald Green C6 starter kit. 78mm batts. One auto and one manual and Menthol Ice cartos In 12 mg strength. I also ordered an extra auto batt, lime green mini tank, PCC, pack of black blank cartos, and a few 7 ml bottles of some other flavors to try. All in 12mg strength. I got Mystic, Twisted Java, and Cafe Mocha.

first of all I was massively impressed with the free shipping option. Placed the order late Friday night and the order arrived from New Jersey at my door in Southern California on Monday! Everything looks great and is well presented. Got the batteries charged up and took the first puff of menthol ice. Delicious! I filled the tank up with Twisted Java and tried it out. Another fabulous flavor. My only regret is that I ordered the blanks the same color as the pre filled. So I don't have an easy way to distinguish the other two flavors. I have tried them all so far and I am enjoying the ones I got. Already planning the next order with some different colored blanks and a few more flavor samples. I do think the Menthol Ice could be my all day so will likely get a big bottle of that.

I haven't had a regular smoke since last night so so far so good. However I am thinking maybe the 12mg is a little too strong. I have noticed a very low level nicotine buzz that I have not experienced in years. Think I will try a few different nic levels and see if that makes a difference before getting big bottles of anything. So far though I am very impressed with Halo and their products.

Welcome!

The phantom HD2 is an old design, for an entry level market. I'm not surprised you dropped it.

The Halo G6 should serve you well, but as Wheezal mentioned, get a minitank, soon (because it performs a lot better than cartos, and we wouldn't want to be wondering why you sleep out on the porch :p ).

I moved up to Triton 3 months after switching to slim cigarettes, so if you're fussy about the performance, be ready for it.

Nic level is critical, but it sounds like you're on top of it. Feel free to mix different nic levels, if you need. I used to mix 12 and 6 to make 9, then 6 and 0 to make three. It's a chore, but it works. Nowadays, I switch between 0 and 6, because it's simpler.

I'm ~9 months into vaping, and I still have urges to smoke, so I plan to vape for as long as I need.

I did get one mini tank with the first order. Currently has twisted Java in it. I am already getting ready to place a second order for a couple more tanks, blank cartos in different colors to allow me to differentiate what juice is in it easier, and a few more sample size bottles of different flavors at different nic levels. I really want to stick with this this time so I am ok with spending a little dough and time trying out the different levels and flavors to get dialed in on what I like and need.

Congratulations on quitting, and nice to see you here in the Halo sub-forum! Every cig you don't smoke is a victory to be celebrated.

I was a half a pack a day smoker too, and was so excited when I got my G6 kit that I overdid it. Same with the Triton. You can vape indoors (if your wife agrees :) ) so it's easy to chain vape and get the nic buzz. You'll find your best level.

Enjoy! Sounds like you are on your way to enough rewards points for your free bottle of liquid! Which other flavors are you getting?

Hey Green, congratulations on picking Halo. Great hardware, great juices, great company, great customer service (wub u cinder), and pretty cool community of users here in the forum.

As to your over nic issue...... A lot of us as we move from cigs to vaping, tend to over nic ourselves. The absorbtion of nic into the blood stream is slower with vaping, so we have a tendency to take a lot of hits of vape... waiting to hit our "need" and then find we have over done it. Anyways I found reading the following very helpful when I first started vaping, to help understand some of the mechanical differences and things to consider.

basically though... dont constantly puff on the G6, treat it more like a cigar, a hit... and wait a minute or two, then another hit. You will find you are less prone to over nic yourself that way.

92GreenYJ, I echo the others. Great wise choice!

You could get drip tips to help with what flavors are in what carto. Halo sells some. (but the metal tips always feels cold, and does cool the vape).

You could get colored electrical tape from Harbor freight for 2 bucks.

Halo has kept me from smoking even 1 cig for over 7 months. And this is true for many of us here.

Hey, you are now a Halon! ©2013 wheezal

And again, great choice...

Welcome Green!! I was a menthol smoker as well. I used to smoke 2pk a day and I started with 18 but needed 24 for "those" stressful times. Your tastebuds will keep changing on you as you heal from smoking. Your senses will come alive so just make sure you drink plenty of water. PG in the juices can be very dehydrating.

When I started I loved Kringle's Curse, Menthol Ice and Mystic were my favorite juices. Then I liked Sub-Zero (which I like to use to mix with other flavors) and Coolmist. I still switch between them all liking different ones at different times. I switch between 3-5 different flavors a day my Halo menthols and some horny fruit flavors. (Horny is what we call non-Halo juices)

I love my G6. I have nearly every color and the drip tips to use in the cartos. I use the black blank cartos and with a labeler I type the name of the juice in that carto using black tape with white words. That way I don't have to remember what "code" I was using meant what? LOL

Being new to vaping I'd recommend reading this article on Vaping Fatigue or vaper's tongue. So you can be ready for it. :)

And remember no question is dumb, we were all where you are and we are here for you if you need us. :)

Not true. The dumb question is the one never asked.

And really good questions are the ones we know the answers to...:D

At least I didn't ask him if he was a girl or a boy this time, he kinda hinted to that in his post. I've been known to ask dumb questions.

Glad to hear you are trying to quit smoking, Good Luck and Best Wishes.
Sorry but I did not read your complete first post to this thread. So I will touch on a few points that I have gone through making the switch from analog to Ecigs

As to the Halo G6.
I use them with great success. I started with BluCig which did get me to cut down on the real thing and then I switched to the Halo G6 model. That did the trick for me and I have been cigarette free for 2 weeks now.

They are longer and heavier than the real thing, as are all ECigs, so if you are in the habit of holding a analog in your mouth you'll need to brake yourself of that habit to some extent. I still do hold the G6 in my mouth for short periods of time but find I have to grip it with my teeth and for some unknown reason, at least to me, my mouth seems to water much more than it ever did with real cigs. So I end up removing it and putting it in my pocket.

Batteries:
I suggest you get the Auto batteries to start with as they give you the same feeling as analogs. You stick in your mouth and start to draw on it and the battery turns on. With the manual batteries you always have to have a hand on it to press the button. This was and still is very foreign to me, especially with the Cigarette style Ecigs (I have upgraded to a eGo style and don't have that problem with those. But I still use the Halo G6 while at work).
If you plan on using it all day always carry the charger with you as the battery will only last between 2 - 4 hours depending on how you use it.
I order multiple kits, shortly after getting the first one and liked it, so I could have more batteries, chargers and options of juice. I've also gotten the Halo mini tanks, Mini Clearomizer, so I could refill easier, get better vapor and better flavor. This system has worked very well in the time I've had it.

As to juice:
I started with the Blu tobacco flavor and then ordered some Cherry Crush and their menthol. When I went with Halo I originally ordered the Turkish tobacco which I didn't care for. But now I've been using their Tribeca which is good. But I've been mixing it with Straight Tobacco from a local shop along with some menthol, Green Apple and strawberry. Again all from one of my local Vape shops. This seems to be work at the moment. I do have orders in from a couple of online store for juices of different flavors to test out.

The best thing so for for me is not having a cigarette and being able to have different tastes.

As to the amount of nicotine:
12mgs is what I use at the moment. I started with 18mgs. With the 12mg I find I still crave but I am determined to cut down on that also. So for the time being I just vape more than I would smoke a cigarette. I suggest you stay at 12 or even go up to 18mgs for the first few weeks.

The one thing you don't want to do is go back to smoking real cigarettes. So for now your body is craving that nicotine fix, give it to your body until you can successfully put the real cigarettes down.
