After 9/11 people came and left flowers at that fountain. Eventually the area was covered with them.

They were collected and composted. One year later I took my wife in to Seattle to get her first insulin pump and the day she got it was the 1 year anniversary. We walked up to the Center and they were giving away tulip bulbs with a little baggie of the compost made from the flowers from the year before. We brought them home and our daughter took them in to school and her class planted them in front of the school. They still come up and bloom in a nice little tulip patch every spring.
