Firewing, (I'm not being flippant about this) you could get her a regular puppy. Just the sheer amount of loyalty a dog has just through bonding with someone is an amazing thing. Dog's usually don't let anything happen to their best friend.

Also Firewing, My dad used to work here: California Department of Rehabilitation and if you have a good counselor they will bend over backwards to help any way they can.
