My 87 year old mother is coming to live with me and smokes. We do not. She has transitioned to a drugstore e-cigarette.
So, I ordered a starter kit from Halo and some extra blank carts and juice.
Halo has answered most of my questions, but I have more.

When filling a cart, is there a proper way to store it?
Will it dry out or leak?
Is there a "use by date" on the juice and carts if they are filled?
Is there a "best" way to fill the carts?

Since I am the one who will be doing this for my mother, I need to learn fast.

Thanks for all the help. I am looking forward to this forum.

Ok well your questions are well founded.

Most juice is good for a long time. While sealed most will run beyond 60- 90 days. Depending on the quality of the Vegetable Glycerin used.

Cartos are usually good for about the same time with juice in them. If you leave them sit it may junk up the cartos based on the juice you are using.

Typically a juice will not have a use by date on it.

Most tanks will not leak on you except maybe at first while the air is settling.

The thicker the juice= shorter life for cartos.

You may want to also look into the Kanger style Pro Tank with the replaceable coils. These are typically glass and will serve you throughout the rest of time vaping.

Best of luck and as always

VAPE ON!!!!

The best advice I can give you is purchase some minitanks from Halo , they're much easier to fill , they outperform the carts and you can see how much liquid is in them so no need to guess , if they work out for your mother you may want to do some more research on ECF , there are devices that cost less but far outperform the Halo, good luck .

    Thank you for the replies.
I went with Halo, based on the fact they look like cigarettes and my mother has dementia. I don't want to do too much change for her.
Halo also seems to have a good reputation for their product and especially their juice.
Without any experience, I had to make a choice based on what I could research.

The Halo mini tanks are twice as expensive as carts. Do they perform twice as long?

They hold more liquid so yes they will perform much longer than the carts , refilling carts is a PITA IMO , you can see when you're getting low on liquid with the mini tanks , a dry hit with a cart is not a pleasant experience .

I used the g6 for a while. It's one of the better cigalikes. If your mom isn't stuck on the thing looking just like a cigarette, I'd say the mini tanks are definitely easier to deal with.

Go ahead and get the rest of your five posts in and hop over to the halo forum linked above. You'll find plenty of people who'll be happy to answer questions.

to ecf doctordun. So glad you are here. Just a wonderful place to be as far as I am concerned. You have already got your answers but I just wanted to say welcome and I think it is so great that you are taking care of your mom. Kudos to you. YouTube is also a great place for learning also. I learn better when I see it. Good luck to you and I hope you will keep up posted on her progress and this wonderful story.

I was wondering if they could be refilled more times. Halo says 7 to 10 times for their carts and two weeks on the mini tanks, which did not make sense to me.

Which flavors did you get? The thicker and darker ones will wear more on the tanks and carts. It's just kinda the way it is.

I know this kind of thing can be hard to sort out , Halo is giving you a rough average on how long the coil ie heating element and wick lasts in their carts and tanks , it really depends on what juice your mother vapes and how much she vapes , the thing about carts is they contain filler material that tastes nasty when they run dry and burn , the tanks don't . If you were the user you'd be able to tell when that was about to happen by a flavor change but since it's your mother , you'll have no way of knowing unless she tells you . Also once the filler gets burnt the cart is useless , you'll never get the burnt taste out of it . I'm giving you the best advice I can , my carto days are long behind me . The people in the Halo specific subforum can give you a better estimate on the gear than I can but I'm 100% positive in my advice on the mini tanks .

When filling a cart, is there a proper way to store it?

No, not really. Not if properly filled--put those silicone sleeves back on them for longer storage. Just bear in mind that cartos need to be topped off early and often or they will burn! 1 ml will not last a long time--make sure your mom understands that.

Is there a "use by date" on the juice and carts if they are filled?

No, not really. See above. I hope you are not planning on storing them for years. :)

Is there a "best" way to fill the carts?

No, whatever works for you is fine. Halo cartos are easy to fill--just remove the top flat cap and drip directly onto the filler--avoiding the center air tube--you don't want any eliquid there. make sure there is enough juice in your carto; if there isn't, the filler will burn. Standard cartos hold 1 ml or 20-25 drops.

Since I am the one who will be doing this for my mother, I need to learn fast.

Understood. You may want to consider getting a small clearomizer for your mom. She'll be able to see how much juice is left in the tank--and there's not filler to get. 2.2 or 2.5 Ω replacement coils will both work. Kanger makes them, they are called Kanger T4 kr808.

    Kanger 808D T4 Clearomizer (1pc) - EVcigarettes.com

LiteCigUSA also carries them but their links don't work here. Sorry. I believe that Halo has a version of this tank (they call it a mini tank?).

Thanks for all the help. I am looking forward to this forum.

Pleasure. Best to you and your mom!

Makes plenty of sense--cartomizer coil cannot be cleaned and dry burned--a clearomizer coil can be cleaned, dry burned, rebuild, rewicked--you name it. I have coils in my Kanger tanks that go on for weeks with proper maintenance. Cartomizers are only good for 6-10 ml of ejuice--depending on the juice--the darker and sweeter ones will gunk up your coils in a day or two and you'll have to throw the carto away.
