Hello and welcome to the forum Bobby. Glad to have you here!:)

If you are interested in learning more about e-cigarettes (and all the parts and pieces) below are some blog posts by ECF member Baditude that I recommend for someone relatively new to vaping. These are several years old but they may help you with some of the terminology.

1. A Good Starter's Setup for a Beginning Vapor
2. Advancing Up the Vaping Ladder with Egos and Mods
3. Proper terminology - Is it a carto, a tank, or what? A Guide to Juice Attachments
4. Something Safe for Cinnamon and Citrus Flavors

Hi and Welcome to the forums!!! what kind of tank were you using before/now? I usually recommend one of 2 tanks for people depending on what they are looking for. IMO, the smaller tanks I recommend is the Nautilus Mini, or go with the Kangertech Subtank Mini if you want to run sub ohm. The nice thing is that they (Subtank) come with coils that run both .5 ohm and 1.2 ohm depending on what you like.

hello and welcome to ECF and vaping :D
vaping is different for everyone and is all about personal preferences.....
are you willing to move away from the cig-a-likes or are you still wanting to stay with it must look like a cigarette?
vaping has come a long way even in the last year.....what kind of shape do you have in mind....something like an ego, long cylinder? or a bigger boxer style like an mvp v2? or something small but powerful like the isticks?
There are so many options out there.....
i would highly recommend sticking with a regulated mod and not a mechanical mod for your first vaping device.....and saying that for the price, form factor and battery life the istick 30w is a great new/intermediate/experienced device.

New Vapor Info & Low Priced Starter Gear
it's a bit outdated now, need to update some things but gives you a good idea and starting point
Vaping is such a personal experience, so obviously everyone's perfect kit will be different and we will need more info about you and your needs. This post is more aimed to those that are ready to move away from cig-a-likes and into the vaping world.
.........
Are you ready to step away from the cigarette-look-a-likes? If so this opens your choices up a lot...if you aren't then there are still options.

Next: if only using cig-a-likes are you only wanting to buy pre-filled or are you willing to refill your cartomizers?
part b: if willing to get away from cig-a-likes same question
part c: if willing to get away from cig-a-likes there are different types of juice delivery systems available :)

It is all overwhelming at first but it starts getting easier and it starts making more sense.
...........
I'm still learning myself but best advice I can give is: keep in mind vaping is all personal preference and there is no bad choices...what you decide is what you will be living with and using ;)
feel free to ask question, no question is stupid, just mis/under informed.

Some things to keep in mind:
  • Try to stick to pv's (personal vapors) that have both the 510 and ego connections this way you have all kinds of options when it comes to juice delivery systems.
  • Variable Voltage (vv) = everyone's taste is different so you can set your voltage up or down to help suit your needs as well as different juices and different juice delivery systems (cartomizers, tanks, ect) taste different at different voltages. (how many times can I say different)
  • Variable Wattage (vw) I haven't tried yet but assuming it is the same principle as stated above for vv.
  • Pass-through battery to be able to vape while charging.
  • the higher the mAh the longer the battery life
  • do you prefer a warm vape (top coil) or a cool vape (bottom coil)? top coil vs bottom coil tanks, to each their own...but go with glass or metal so that there's no worries about tank cracking juices.

That actually made sense shadav haha. Everyone around me talks about it like I know what I'm doing and keep telling them I dont. That helped a lot. Thank you. I'm definitely wanting to get away from the look a likes. I have to admit this little thing has helped me cut back on smoking a lot and ready to take it that next step. I picked up the dovpo e-lvt last night just now looking for a tank and this is where I need the most help

Look at the mini Nautilus (or full size Nautilus). You can get a steel hollowing replacement tank for it (protects the glass). I have this and it works very well (vaping at up to 18 watts).

If you were interested in one of the new sub-ohm tanks you might consider the Kanger mini Subtank. I've heard that you can MTL inhale when the airflow is closed down. Comes with 2 different coils (1.2Ω & 0.5Ω). Check to see if your new mod can fire a 0.5Ω coil.

Here's a video of Matt from SuckMyMod vaping a mini Nautilus on a 30watt devise.

[edit]please excuse my typing...my arthritis is being a pita today so both hands are in splints[/edit]

i had to look that one up....nice looking mod :) it is only a 510 connector so you are a bit limited but no worries you can always get an ego/510 adapter (which i highly recommend anyways because not only does it help save your threads from getting striped from all the on/off with the tanks but it's also a bit of a protection if you have a leak it won't go straight to the mod, it'll flood the adapter first)

i've heard mostly good things about the nautilus'......another option that most new users prefer and is great for backups later are the protank and mini protank with air control valves and then get the new vertical coils for it....the flavor is spot on and less leaky, less dry hits, less burnt flavor.....and the air control valve is great for fine tuning how airy or tight the draw is...make sure to get the glass ones and not the plastic ones....
it's always a good idea to get one of a few different type tanks to find what you really like....
and before buying, feel free to ask in the forums cuz lots of people can help you find great deals on line to save you money :)
when you get enough posts be sure to >> http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/announcements-news/283955-how-become-verified-member.html
so you can have access to the for trade/sale threads where you can find members selling items for good prices
and then there's the http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/pay-forward-pif/418767-deals-steals.html thread where people are always posting good deals to check out

and if you don't mind buying from china and can wait about a month for shipping > fasttech.com has a ton of vape gear some authentic, mostly clones are awesome prices....great for getting new gear to try to figure out what you do or don't like, or just stockpiling up on coils and what nots....

Go with the subtank! The Nautilus is a great tank but you won't get much more out of it. With the sub tanks as said before you can use the 1.2 or the 0.5 coils. And the mini version of the kanger subtank also has a rebuildable option. It's kinda the best of both worlds without having to drip all the time. Also the coils are wicked with organic cotton. I personally think you get better flavor out of it. And with a subtank you can use any juice you want; 50/50 or max vg juices. With a Nautilus I don't like using anything more than a 70/30.
