New guy, giving a shout-out and a mg question

1.8% or 18mg/ml is a decent starting point, but some people need something stronger when they're first switching over from smoking. Most people get about 1 milligram of nicotine from each cigarette, but combustion changes the pH of the nicotine so that it is quickly and easily absorbed in the deep lung tissue. On the other hand, the nicotine in e-cigs is mostly absorbed through the mouth and upper respiratory system so inhaling the vapor into your lungs doesn't really help except to give the "throat hit" you expect from smoking.

Pharmaceutical grade nicotine is also absorbed slower than the nicotine in smoke so some people still find they crave a cigarette in the morning for a jump-start, but I found that after just a few days of one or fewer cigarettes my senses of taste and smell improved enough that I didn't want to smoke at all as long as I can vape instead. :D

I forgot to say Welcome to ECF!! I hope you get your kit tomorrow!

I didn't :( well not entirely true that, I got one of those really annoying "you weren't home when we stopped by cards" from the mail so I called them up and arranged to have someone pick it up tomorrow since I don't get home till really late on Wednesdays.. I'm currently making the most of my waiting time by double washing all of my clothes to get rid of cigarette smell. Bit pointless atm cause I can't actually smell it myself but I prefer to keep busy!

I've read this (bolded text) before. Yet, if I draw the vapor into my mouth, hold it for a few seconds and blow it out of my nose, it actually 'burns' my sinuses a little and get no or little smell/taste from the vapor. If I draw into mouth, inhale into lungs and blow out of my nose, there is no 'burning' and taste is fine. It seems to me this would indicate that the lungs (at least mine ;)) are absorbing a significant amount of the nicotine.

Just my :2c: :)

I was a 2+ PAD smoker for many years. I started vaping with 11-12mg. Soon found that wasn't enough and went to 18mg. While that was better, it still wasn't quite enough.

So, I am now settled in with 24mg.

There really is no guide, or rule of thumb to go by. Use the lowest nic that satisfies your cravings.

I would say start with 24mg but also have some 18 mg on hand in case 24 is too much.

That's a good observation, but you forget that there *is* a "throat hit" if you inhale that way--the nicotine is probably mostly being absorbed through your upper esophogus rather than the lungs. There is probably SOME nicotine that can be absorbed slowly through lung tissue, but probably not a "statistically significant" amount....HOWEVER, I believe that some "100% USA Made" juice vendors are using a nicotine made at a lab in Florida that is allegedly designed to be more easily absorbed, which is why the Essence line from Eliquidplanet, the Octane line from Nhaler, and the Tonic line from PureSmoker seem to have a stronger "kick" at just 1-1.6% than imported liquids might have at 2.4%
