Hi, I started vaping last week Thursday and immediately stopped smoking regular cigarettes. I was a 2 1/2 PAD smoker. I'm using 24 MG juice but I pretty much chain vape and I think I'm getting overloaded on nicotine. Anyone have any thoughts on levels? FWIW, I know everyone's journey will be different, but I'm thinking I could easily drop levels and it's the vaping/smoking action I'm most addicted to. Would it be crazy to go with a 0 mg juice? I don't want to go back to smoking. Thanks in advance

If you want to try a 0mg juice go for it. Just keep some around with nicotine in it just in case 0mg doesn't work for you. I was a PAD smoker and started with 24mg and dropped to 18mg very quickly as 24mg was too strong for me and was constantly over nicing myself. At 18mg I was getting to much nic every once in a while and have since moved to 12mg. I plan to drop to 9mg fairly soon and plan to drop the strength of my juice little by little until I hit 0mg. I also have no willpower when it comes to nicotine so this plan seems to be working for me.

Completely agree, and went through the same thing when I switched over. I was having rapid heart beating, sweating, just that feeling that you've haven't smoked in awhile, and that nic rush all the time. I'm finding that I take 28mg to work for the 15 min break nic fix, but when I'm at home I can pretty much chain vape so I keep 18mg filled up. I smoked 28mg for nearly a week, so it was a transition, but after a few days I don't even notice it anymore. Helped when I upped my H20 intake as well, drinking more water really helped with a lot of the transition pains, and what better can you do but quit smoking, and increase your water intake 200%? Congrats on your new life..

Ya, I should drink more water anyhow! I'm just kinda freakin out at how easily I made the switch. I mean, I think about grabbin a smoke now and then but a quick vape and I'm not even thinking about a cigarette. I feel like I'm waiting for something to hit me and I'll realize it's not that easy, but so far it is. I do know I'll most likely be a vaporhead for a long time. I enjoy the process. Like I said earlier, I think I'm more addicted to the action of smoking/vaping, the ritual of it more than the nicotine. I ordered some 0 and 6 MG juice so we'll find out! :(

Hi Josie, congratulations on quitting smoking and welcome to ECF!

I know the feeling of thinking "this was just too easy", as I experienced that myself in the second month of vaping. I think your decision to get some 0mg and 6mg liquid is a good idea and you can switch it out with your 24mg as needed. I was fortunate to be one of those who started with the middle strength (18mg), and it just worked right away and continues to work. Everyone is different, and I'm confident that you will find what works best for you in short order.

I'm a month in, and basically the same. It was so easy it was scary. I was a pack or more a day, and didn't smoke not one cigarette after my first e-cig. Me and my wife, this worked without a single problem when everything in the past failed well before this point.
I've been pretty good with 16/18mg not chain vaping but quite a bit. Deff. wouldn't want to move to 24, if anything I may try 12.

It's not just the nic level in the juice, but the delivery system as well. I can do 24 mg every day, until I use a high end delivery device, then I'm nic'ed out a few seconds later. For this reason, have some different strengths on hand. Body laboratory stuff, finding your best nic levels, etc. If you're worried about going back to analogs, then 0 mg doesn't sound good for you at this time, maybe better to step down, but there's no one way, or right way, as we're all different, have different goals, etc. A great question, btw. Sounds like you need to step down right now to 12 or 18, or whatever works best for you. Glad you made it, vape on!

I think your decision to buy 0 mg nic juice is a mistake. It has only been a week and a half since you stopped smoking analogs. It seems like it is pretty normal to chain vape at first. I don't know how well versed you are, but vaping delivers nicotine to your body differently than smoking tobacco, so it may take you more inhales to get the level of nicotine your body is used to. Once you get used to not smoking and your nicotine cravings go down a notch, you will probably stop feeling the need to chain vape so much. Then would be more a more appropriate time to maybe step down the nicotine.

I don't know you and I don't know how you will react to 6mg and 0 mg juices, but having just kicked the smoking habit, you might wind up vaping more with less nicotine. Just my 2 cents.

Many of us had similar experiences and weren't even actually planning to quit, it just happened when we started vaping. The only time since I started vaping that I've wanted an analog is after a couple drinks, but I just press through it and vape on.

I do think a good portion of it is the ritual, bringing something to your mouth, inhaling, repeat and that's probably why vaping works out so well for us. The nicotine is for our bodies, the vapor is for our minds :)

And definitely up the water intake, vaping can be dehydrating and dehydration can cause muscle pains, headaches, and more.

Sent from my phone, please excuse typos.

Congrats on quitting :) I too quit "on accident", almost 3 weeks ago now. I was a pack and a half a day smoker. I've found 18 mg to be my sweet spot, though I'm okay with 12 mg too, especially in the evenings when I tend to chain vape. I tried 0mg (my husband who never smoked vapes it just for fun) and it did not work for me. No throat hit, and I NEED throat hit. I've found that for 0mg, cinnamon and mint flavors are slightly more satisfying than anything else, as the strong flavor tends to mimic throat hit a bit

Good luck, and again, congrats!

Thank you everyone for the tips....all well received. I have some 18 MG juice here so I'll give that a go for the rest of the day. As far as going to 0, I feel like I need to find my limits and where nicotine fits in with all of this. At this point I'm still very committed to staying off cigarettes so if I find I'm craving I'll just go higher on the nic levels with juice. I've been a smoker for over 35 years and I'm not sure I know what a nicotine withdraw feels like!! I made a feeble attempt to quit years ago using a patch and it was very unsuccessful. Getting the nicotine was not enough for me to put down the cigarettes. Thanks again for the encouragement.

Ya, thats something I wondered about....if lower nic levels affected the hit you get. Thats definitely something I would miss.

If you're talking about the throat hit (the sensation at the back of the throat), then it will be less with lower nicotine. You can, however, compensate somewhat by adjusting the PG levels in your liquid higher. Of course, I speak only from what I've read here on ECF since I haven't needed to adjust either nic or PG levels, so your mileage may vary.

Remember if u have 0 nic in same flavor as a 24, u can mix them together at 50% each to end with 12. Heck if u feel like it mix 2 flavors if u think u might like them.

GL I'm sure u well find your happy Vape.
