Ok, so I've been smoking for about 8 years, however my place of employment recently passed a ban on smoking on property. So I noticed my co-worker was using an e-cig...so I asked him about it and was intrigued.

I don't want to ask dumb questions, because I did do some reading and research....anyway: I was looking at bottom feaders since thats what my co-worker has and says it's the best way to go about things.

Does vapping actually save money? I've been trying to crunch numbers but I'm still unsure:

mainly because I keep reading different things on how long a container of liquid would last, I currently smoke about 12 cig's a day, sometimes more, sometimes less

and: I'm running around the internet looking at sites and things, like anything, is there a listing of reputable sites to use and generic bad customer service sites?

Thanks guys

The ECF forum has both a list of verified vendors and a vendor review sections including bad reviews.

Saving money depends on you. If you keep buying the latest gadgets, you won't save money. You may spend more at first until you find what you really like. The thing you want to focus on at first is your health. How much is your health worth? I spend thirty to forty dollars a month on supplies as opposed to two hundred or more on cigarettes.

I have saved money. I didn't at first, but it's starting to add up now, and that's even with stocking up. I've got enough nicotine to make my own juice for years, and over a years worth of cartomizers. It took me a while to find my ideal set up, but once I got that figure out I can buy in bulk and save. Many look at e-cigs as a hobby they are willing to spend lots of money on, and that's fine, but you don't have to look at it that way. It's entirely up to you.

Have you tried your friends bottom feeder? Some people love them and some prefer tubes. I didn't like the bottom feeder I tried and went to a high end tube mod with a tank. What is perfect for one person might not be for another, and unfortunately the only way to find out is to try. I'd suggest getting a beginner type e-cig and using it for a while. Then post back here about what you like and don't like about it. That will give everyone some ideas about what would suit you best.

A couple of good beginner e-cigs would be the Kgo, the Ego (twist in particular gets some good reviews and has advantage over the non-variable voltage Egos), or a Volt if you want a cig-a-like.

If you buy a decent mid-powered kit and avoid getting the latest gadgets, your continuing expenses are mainly juice and cartomizers. Eventually you'll have to replace batteries as well. Probably the cheapest working model would be an EPower 14650. About the same "power" as a KGO 1100 but when the battery wears out you replace is for $6-$8 versus twice that for an eGo/KGO...

With a bottom feeder there is a big learning curve that goes along with it. Since your friend is there to answer any questions and possibly show you how to use it it will help. Find out what kind of bottom feeder he has and what he likes about it and if he tried anything else first. Bottom feeders aren't for everyone, I'm not trying to talk you out of it since I'm about to pull the trigger and buy one myself as soon as the budget allows it, but these aren't for everyone.

If you have to stealth vape at work, here's a very good short ecig:
THE SD KEY RING E-CIG BY TROG (510 threaded)
You can easily cup it in your hand, turn a corner and take a quick puff. Easily fit in your pocket for a bathroom break. The battery is small but would easily last 2 breaks and lunch.

For 12 cigs a day, you could probably go with 18mg nic. when you order your eliquid. Start with sample sized eliquids, and you may end up using 15-20ml. a week based on your 12 a day cig usage.

Hi Gotti...I feel your prime concern is saving money here...to answer that, as per your current smoking needs, I would say you wont be saving money at the beginning....12 cigs vs buying a kit...try different flavors /cartos etc. will never make you break even , in the first 3-4 months...I am not trying to discourage you in anyway..but being a smoker myself for the last 15 yrs, my reason to quit was a little different...I was plainly disgusted of smoking, it was about 50-60 analogs for me a day..and I was starting to feel the damage it was causing me physically, money factor was not the issue..I simply started to HATE smoking....and I feel that's one emotion that has worked for many of us, to make this wonderful switch to vaping..

He has a vapge mod v2.0, that i do know....i didn't get much information from him but he seemed to think the liquid lasts longer on that type of e-cig

thanks for the info, that key ring one may be perfect since we are still waiting to see if they will let us vape at work or not....this lingo is the hardest thing here to learn

That is the model I am about to get myself. I do use less liquid with direct dripping, I would go through 3-5 ml of liquid a day with the ego-c set up that I had no I'm direct dripping with a 306 atty on an ego battery and only go through about 1 ml of liquid a day. So I am definately saving money there and definately want the convenience of the bottom feeder especially while in the car. The vmod seems the most pocket friendly without leaking than some of the other bottom feeders I've see, plus it is about the same price for a vmod kit as it is for an ego or kgo kit.

Yeah the lingo is hard. You just gotta hang out here alot to learn things. The more you learn and more questions you ask, the better your experience with vaping will be.
