First of all as a preface, I have been smoking analog for about 5 years now. My co-workers started vaping sometime last year, and I have been pretty interested in trying it. After a failed new years resolution to quit, I've finally decided that now is the time.

1. I read somewhere that e-cig batteries have the potential to explode, is this true and what are the risks?

2. How do I know I can trust a vendor and their e-liquids / e-cigs?

3. Does it really satisfy the nic-fits and cravings to the point where I won't even think about smoking analog?

4. It seems like there are so many flavors and I've tried a few of my coworkers, but how should I choose my first flavors to transition best from analog? Should I go with tobacco flavors, or more fruity stuff?

Sorry if these are obvious or stated elsewhere on this website. I looked around and read some of the stickied posts here, but still had these questions.

Wecome Jonbod!

1.) I've never seen an issue, but just make sure you are using the proper formats, equipment, and electronics with stuff. I'm sure someone more familar with ohms and voltage issues can explain
2.) There are a lot of vetted vendors listed both on this forum and elsewhere. If you are unsure, ask members of ECF :)
3.) Yes, there is a little bit of an adjustment period, but once you get used to it, it completely can satisfy your cravings.
4.) There are not only tabacco and fruity flavors but things such as mint, peppermint, etc. I started off with tobacco flavors, but found I didn't quite enjoy them. My goto is peppermint.

Again, welcome. I hope someone more versed in the culture can better answer your questions where I might have failed.

Stick with the vetted vendors and you'll be fine...
I smoked non-filters for 30+ years and it took care of my cravings, just get the right nic level for you...
That's the great search for the Holy Grail flavor you will love, hated menthols and never smoked them, now I love it in vaping! Think of it as a great adventure!
I am sure a lot more smarter folks will be along to help you out!
Welcome to the Forum:)

1. All rechargeable batteries have the potential to fail catastrophically, regardless of where they're used. The biggest problem I've heard of is unsafe usage in large battery mods. Use protected batteries or safer chemistry batteries to reduce the risk. If you use mods, make sure they are properly vented to prevent explosion in case of a battery failure.

2. Check out the registered vendors here in the forums. I've ordered from several, and they have all been good experiences.

3. I can't say that it will completely satisfy the nic-fits for you, because everyone is different. I can say that they satisfy the nic-fits for ME, and that I find the thought of ever lighting up another analog repulsive.

4. The best way that I have found to be successful is to find a flavor that you would like to vape frequently. Not necessarily tobacco (a lot of beginners want the flavor of the analog) - there are so many good non-tobacco flavors out there! Why limit yourself when you can get your nic in an enjoyable flavor? Have your cake and eat it too, so to speak!

Good luck on your new journey!

Re: Battery issues - use safe charging practices. There are accidents with both big battery mods and rechargable semi disposable batteries. Don't overcharge, don't leave batteries charging unattended, place batteries and charger in a fire proof pan or a charger bag to mitigate risk.

Re: Vendors - all of the ECF approved vendors are awesome. The ones who do manage to get approved offer good product and customer service or will be "unapproved."

Re: Juice - just based on personal experience, try some things that you don't think you'll like. My favorite juices are ones that I never thought I would like. Get something sweet, tobacco, menthol and fruit - sampler sizes are good. Also check out the juice reviews and try some of the popular favorites.

Re: Satisfaction - try some different levels of nicotine to make sure you get a strong enough juice. I smoked for 25 years and loved it till I found vaping... 6+ months analog free and not looking back.

Good Luck and Welcome to the ECF!

Welcome, Welcome!!

I'm pretty new myself! Only been vaping for 4 weeks, but here's my 2 cents:

1. I've "heard" they do (e.g., the recent story on Yahoo) but I don't know enough about the set up to know if it was the hardware or the user.

2. Check the vendor pages here on the Forum. You'll find reviews for all suppliers, they haven't steered me wrong yet!

3. YES!!!! and no....I don't WANT an analog (regular cig) but the thought does pass through my mind from time to time.

4. Its all personal taste. I never wanted tobacco flavors, its one of the reasons I don't smoke any more, I don't like the taste! You just gotta try what you think you'll like. I started with coffees, fruits and sweets turns out most of my guesses were right!

Good Luck and welcome to the club!!!

I can only answer question 3 from my own recent experience, being day 12 of not smoking and day 15 of vaping. I'll list out how felt when weening myself off smokes.

Day One: Full Pack: I bought a mistic kit from wal-mart. I know some people don't like them but I like it a lot. As newbie i think its great and for the price, I paid less then $20 for it, it was hard to pass up. I had no nic fits but i was still smoking.

Day Two: 3/4 Pack: The morning cravings were so bad. I had to buy a pack. Through out the day i used my e-cig more and more. The cravings during the day were almost nonexistent.

Day three: 1/4 Pack: The morning cravings were there but not nearly and bad as day two. I used the mystic all day only having a smoke every few hours or so. The cravings durning the day were there but the e-cig pretty much took care of them.

Day Four: No Cigs: The cravings were there but the e-cig was able to make them manageable.

So this is day 15 of vaping and day 12 with out smokes and I don't even think about smoking. I hope this was helpful.

1. I read somewhere that e-cig batteries have the potential to explode, is this true and what are the risks?

Yes they can. Make sure you use the proper charger that comes with the kit and never leave a battery plugged in unattended.

2. How do I know I can trust a vendor and their e-liquids / e-cigs?

Use the forum suppliers. They are the trusted vendors.

3. Does it really satisfy the nic-fits and cravings to the point where I won't even think about smoking analog?

Not at first because your body has to withdraw from all the crap in cigarettes that we get addicted too. It will pass and then it's smooth sailing.

4. It seems like there are so many flavors and I've tried a few of my coworkers, but how should I choose my first flavors to transition best from analog? Should I go with tobacco flavors, or more fruity stuff?

It depends on what YOU want to do. For me, I stayed away from tobacco flavors because I was afraid it would trigger a craving.

Firstly ecigs work for people who want them to and don't if you don't dedicate yourself. Most important rule of quitting cigs is to just not do it!

1.) look up ohms law, most of the people don't actually look at the simple circuit. Let's say your running a 3.7v 1000 mah battery and are running 4 ohm atty on it, current is voltage devided by resistance, in this case .925 amps. So your in a safe position with the battery because it's rated for 1000mah and now you know that with your setup your going to be looking at just over an hour of use, that being said they are safe if you look into what your building. Lithium batteries produce trace amounts of hydrogen when 'going bad' most are safe because of ventilation, like a cell phone. But when there not vented, sealed up tight over used and over loaded they can turn into pipe bombs. Buy good batteries and a vented or breathable mod and your safe. Use the proper charger and keep it on something non flammable *paper, cloth...etc* be responsible and educate yourself a little. Accidents happen but most are caused by human error.

2.) after looking into it the most trusted ones are talked about a lot, make sure any time you are giving out your credit/debit card info, your on a secure site (there will be a lock that is in the locked position somewhere on your screen) the forums are great to ask questions about, always do your homework before you give away your money.

3.) as I said before, you get in what you put out. If your walking around with little will power a pack of smokes and an ecig, your not going to make it. I know, tried it twice before I went all in. I smoked for 6 years between a pack and a packand a half a day, 24mg strength and I havnt so much as thought about a cig unless I smell one (gross smell after about three days, it'll make you wonder how you ever smoked in the first place)

4.) flavors are a preference, and everyone makes them different. Try something you know you like, tobacco flavors all lack that nasty taste you grew to love, so don't think you will find a true match to your cig of choice. Coffee is a good start because it tasts good. Shop around and have fun with it.

Remember to read, read, read, and then read some more. Educate yourself and you will about some big problems. I have not smoked a cig or cigar since new years and am new to the community, but I say welcome and hopefully now you can breath a little easier.

I've been vaping for a few months now and I would have to say...

1. I doubt that any decent brand e-cig is going to explode so long as you read the instructions and use common sense. Most have safety mechanisms that prevent them from overheating and whatnot. If this rumor is true, it was probably a one-time incident. More likely, it was something fabricated to make e-cigs look bad. The government sure doesn't seem to like them, since they can't tax them as tobacco products... yet. I wouldn't put it past them to put lies in the media. That's what politics is all about, after all.

2. As for e-juice suppliers, read their customers' reviews and/or give them a call. Most of the places I buy from, such as Highbrow Vapor, Vaperite, and Vape Dudes, all are more than happy to chat with you and will custom mix e-juice to your liking. I only buy stuff made in the USA and with natural or even organic ingredients.

3. This is a simple answer - it depends on the nicotine strength you choose and what method you use to vape it with. I used to smoke about a half-pack a day and I tend to go overboard with the nicotine when I sample new orders of e-juice. Anyway, an average pack of cigarettes will have about 22 mg of nicotine in it. 1 ml of 24 mg strength e-juice is equal to about a pack of cigarettes. Cartomizers make it difficult to get all of the juice vaporized, but drip and tank setups are much more efficient. 36 mg strength is way too much for me. Fortunately, acute nicotine poisoning doesn't last long and when I do OD, I generally feel okay in half an hour or so. But yeah, you can get all the nicotine you want from vaping.

4. I've heard people recommend tobacco flavors for newcomers, but I started with cherry and vanilla. These days, I've got about 50 flavors on tap and as much as I loved my old Pall Malls, I tend to prefer soda and mixed drink flavors like Mountain Dew, Pepsi, Fuzzy Navel, and Tokyo Tea. Those last two are my DIY blends.

Hope that helps and best of luck to you.

I have heard of battereis blowing up but it was only hear-say. although I have had a batterie port melt and I finally figured out that my thread on the batterie wasnt clean there was nicotine drip down in it, I just have a standard v2 ecig and even though I have to echange them quite a bit they vape pretty good.

so back to cleaning use a q-tip and acohol and maby a saftey pin and carfuly put some cotton on q-tip soaked with a little acolhol and and push into the inside area that dirty area and clean anround until its gone and it will work like new again. I also use a ecig called modern that I get from a conveince store and I refill there carts but batteries have to be recharge contantly. Im looking into some new type of ecigs, ego was suggested to me and as far as the flavors I really like rasberrry and mints and I never smoke mental before with anologs..weird I know...HOPE it helps..

3) From my own personal experience, I felt zero Nic cravings after the switch. And I made a clean break...no transition at all.

They say that new vapors get little nicotine at first because the smoking/vaping technique is different. I don't know if that's true or not but it makes a certain amount of sense, the pulls on a e-cig need to be longer than the ones I took on a analog. But the only issues I had were equipment choices...and flavors.

When i made the switch I started with a very good vendor, called Halo. I would recommend them to anyone and have many friends make the transition easily using their products. There are many others out there but I would suggest only using vendors that other members here recommend and have had good success with. Of course Halo sells what most people here would call a beginner-type vaping device and you will most like want to move up to more advanced devices rather quickly, but their "slim style" ecigs are great for beginners.

I started using some of Halo's tobacco juices, like torque and tribeca. now, I only use tobaccos occasionally and have switched to more fruit and bakery-type flavors. I can also say that the same day I made the switch I have never had any desire to smoke another analog cig. vaping has changed my life so much for the positive I can't say enough about it. good luck.

I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for their answers. I decided to go ahead and buy a digital means of smoking, and actually ended up finding a local store that hooked me up before I left for spring break last week: DFW Vapor.

The sales guy recommended the eGo-C to me, and also a couple of flavors which I've been trying. I've been vaping since last Monday (1 week mark) and I have to say I'm quite impressed. I started with the tobacco flavor, and I actually couldn't stand it in comparison to the delicious fruit and soda flavors.

For the first time in a while I actually think I might be able to quit the analogs--I've only had one this week. I can't say how grateful I am to everyone here for their insight and help. I look forward to exploring the vapor ways more with all of you!
