Hi all. I have been vaping for about 6 months now, and I feel its time to sort of join a vaping community. I love vaping. Used it to quit smoking, and I'm never going back. I tried to post in a few of the more specific forums for my questions, but apparently I don't have sufficient priviliges yet. So I guess I will just post my questions here. A little about me, I'm an engineering student so all the safety precautions of modding are not lost on me.

First I started with the standard e-cigs from the gas station. Then later I moved on to the el-cheapo top wick clearomizer kits that come with a battery with no voltage regulation. Then for about the last 2 months, I've been using the Ego C-twist with a Kanger Protank. Its a great combo imo and I love it. However, I'm looking to move up a bit, and here's why. I'm finding that I like a lot more vapor, and a much faster draw than my Protank can deliver. So, it looks like modding is the next step. It was always in my future I guess.

But what Mod should I start with? I already have batteries picked out for sub/ohm vaping if I have to go that route to get the fast, airy draw with a lot of extra vapor. Again, I'm looking for excess vapor and a much faster draw than the Prototank offers. Right now, I'm looking to cut the draw time in half. I have to suck on the pro tank about 8 seconds to get the amount that I want. That's right at the cutoff limit of the egoctwist. It will stop supplying power at 10 seconds worth of draw. And, it gets hot when I vape on it. So the obvious answer is to be able to vape at a higher current, with a larger air hole and more vapor being produced. I'm not sure yet, but I'm thinking that I might be forced to go into dual coil setups and sub-ohm vaping. Anyway, what are your thoughts? Do you have any product recommendations?

You need a few more posts but then you can post freely in the other forums. Think its 15, which is easy enough to do.

Wow, 8 seconds to get thick vapor? I have a very simple evod VV + kanger mini protank II setup and it can blast out vapor really fast.
I'm pretty new to vaping so maybe I has beginners luck? It would explain a lot of stuff...

Honestly it depends on what you want and what you are personally capable of. You could move to a mechanical mod such as the K100 and a rebuildable dripping atomizer. That can get kind of technical sometimes when you are trying to get consistent resistance. I would suggest a variable voltage mod such as the iTase SVD or a provari or something. By increasing the voltage you can get a hotter coil which will produce more vapor. You have to be careful with your voltage level though or you will be replacing coils or tanks far too often.

You may need to go with a Rebuildable to get the kind of vapor production you are seeking. However, these are not simple, out-of-the-box juice attachments. They require lots of research to be used safely. A basic understanding of Ohm's Law (amperage vs ohm resistance), the proper batteries to use which can handle the increased draw that these coils demand, using a multimeter to measure the coils, and the specific techniques for your particular Rebuildable.

Excillent suggestions Baditude. I'm fairly new still and have not worked my way over to that section of the forum yet. Though I remember reading through that info when I was shopping for my setup. I have a background in electronics so it was quite easy for me. But for someone who no experience in the field this can really be a challenge to master. I don't even use a volt meter any more when I build my coils. Once you know the resistance of the wire and the tolerance and have built and tested a few coils you can get it right without even trying. But it certainly takes time to learn that stuff.

I get more vapor than I can handle at 1.0 to 1.5 Ohms, while still keeping good flavor and good throat hit. When I go lower, yes, I get more vapor, but the flavor drops off rapidly and the throat hit gets quite sharp/painful. I never vape below .8 Ohms and don't recommend sub-ohm vaping for the reasons stated. Somehow, a good vape has been supplanted with some "groups" by competitive cloud chasing, something I just don't get, as I actually like to enjoy my vaping, and have found that for me, too low has too many trade-offs (like loss of flavor and too harsh a throat hit). That being said (YMMV), there seem to be a lot of vapers that do like the high vapor production, muted taste and harsh throat hit. So, those are my thoughts. Listen to Bad and check out his blogs. Sub-Ohm vaping can be dangerous, and is NOT for the uneducated vaper. Safety first please. Good luck in your VaporQuest. All the best.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I really appreciate it. So it looks like I might want to just start with a 1.5 ohm coil and go from there. But now more questions! lol

1. Does 2 coils guarantee more vapor than just one coil? Of the same ohm rating, that is. For example if I used 2 coils to get to 1.3 ohms, would that yield more vapor than using a single, 1.3 Ohm coil?

2. I would prefer not to use a cartomizer. I find them to be a little messy. I just want to fill up a tank, and go. Can this still be done with a typical 1.5 ohm coil setup?

3. Is there a mod I can buy, that will let me mess around with an adjustable air hole? Something tells me its going to be difficult, and I'm going to have to spend a lot of money and time finding the perfect vape for me. So, I'd like to find the most mod-able "kit" that I can. The one that allows for the most adustments. As stated I'm a student so I don't really have the luxury of spending a lot of money to play with a lot of different setups until I find the one that's right for me.

1. Yes.

2. Yes. There are RBAs that come with tanks. Example - AGA-T3 Genesis Rebuildable Atomizer

3. No. The air adjustment is only on the attachments. The mod only provides power. Again, RBAs are what you want, as they allow for air flow adjustment. Many people mod them even further by drilling them out or drilling more holes. Not for the faint of heart.

OK I am going to push the Protank one more time, and then I will stop. I promise! Here is a preliminary review of a guy who is moving from a PT2 to a PT3. Note his reaction to the new PT3 vapor and flavor...

Try this one

I would if it weren't for the terrible throat hit that sub ohm vaping gives. After reading this thread, and watching a lot of youtube vids on the subject, I don't think I want to go below 1 ohm. I would, but I don't want the unpleasant hit. Not looking to worsen my vaping experience lol

As for the Protank, I have The protank 1. I thought they had just come out with the protank 2. Surprised to find out that they're already on the protank 3! Depending on just how adjustable that airhole is, I may be getting the protank 3 as I do love the Protank 1. I want to be able to adjust that thing to the size of a straw if I have to.

OK I lied. I AM going to push the Protank 3 on you just one more time. After watching another review, I have found out that the PT3 actually has an airflow adjuster. Skip to 15:00 in this vid for a demo of it being used.

I think you overstated that a bit, I watched that whole video and I saw no airflow adjuster. The closest thing was the beauty ring which wasn't even meant to be an adjuster. Plus there is no adjustment setting with it. That guy's review recommended against the Protank 3. After watching it, I can't tell any difference between it and the protank 2. Its got one more coil, but they failed to implement the design properly cause he can't tell the difference between the 2 and the 3.
