I have two mechanical mods and don't know much about how to take care of them (just how to replace cotton and use it properly). One of them is the original copper stingray by JD tech and the other I don't know the name of. I've tried searching the internet but can't figure it out. It's silver and has a heartbeat symbol on it. The other things I have which I believe are called the atomizer (right?).. I have one origin and a genesis tank. I need a lot of help- I know these things can be dangerous if not built right.. Someone built it for me and I've been using the correct batteries (IMR 18650 1600 mah or the 2000) ... I understand that those have a continuous Discharge of 30 amps and 10 amps for the 2000....

Now, since Im not a huge fan of the genesis (bc I think it mutes the flavor of many of my juices) I would like to start by learning everything I can about how to build on the origin. I'm going to use the same batteries ... I went to buy Kanthal A1 Round Resistance Wire but didn't know what agw to get.. I don't even know what agw means. ... I also got an Ohm meter. Other than those two things.. do I need anything else?

- I was looking a new drip tips... sorry if this is a dumb question but are drip tips universal size... would any one fit on my origin ?

-Now once I get to building...after I build the coils I would then check it on the Ohm meter and make sure the number is ....what? This is the part I don't know at all.. Oh I guess I need a multimeter as well.. I'm also thinking to buy a vape safe mode fuse as an extra layer of protection-is it worth it?

Can someone help me and/or point me in the right direction here!? OR is this going to be too hard for me and I should sell what I have? In which case, could someone tell me where I could sell these?

Well, where to begin...what you want to do when building is to make sure your amperage will not exceed the the continuous amp rating of the batteries (30 amps and 10 amps if what you said is correct). When thinking about building a new coil I use Vapors toolbox on my phone to figure out how many wraps and how many amps a certain resistance will put out. The app is free and less than a mb file size so definitely worth a download! The gauge of wire just varies how many wraps you will need to meet a certain resistance. I would recommend 26-28 for a beginner, and once you get familiar you may want to try 24 gauge.

Anyways, the ohm meter is a valuable tool to make sure your build came out to the resistance you were shooting for. I see no need for a multimeter for now, unless you are just curious about internal voltage of your batteries.

Here is a chart of certain resistances and their watts and amps. I always read from the 4.2V line since that is how high your battery will be on a fresh charge. Make sure your amps will not exceed the amps of the battery.

As to the drip tips: alot of them will fit, however not all drip tips are made the same due to slight variances in manufacturing and the o-rings used, so some might not work for you, even though the majority may work fine.

Anyone with better knowledge, feel free to correct me or add on to this discussion.

Welcome to the forums. American wire guage aka is awg nit agw. I would also start with 26 or 28 guage wire. Slowly work lower till you have a good understanding of ohms law and batteries.

Can't find much on mech, need pic.

Genny try a microcoil and cotton in auto drip mode. I really like cable with ecowool sleeve and ribon wire in my genny. Great flavor in kracken.

For the batteries can you tell us a little more the market is flooded with cheap knockoffs of really good batteries so brand of battery any and all pics of them would be nice to so we can double check since it can be very dangerous as you know but it'd say for wire check out 26 or 28 gauge abd I always recommend staying out around a one ohm build and vapors toolbox is an awesome app for android phones or steamengine.com to figure out your amp draw with the ohms of the coil. If you need any more info ask away good luck and happy vaping.

I would suggest you immerse yourself into watching YouTube videos of people building basic coils. Don't get sucked into the wild twisted quad coil stuff, just look for simple, run of the mill coil building. I wouldn't even attempt to wrap a coil until I had watched hours of those and read all I could read here. Do a search for blogs by Baditude, a member here, who has contributed lots of excellent information on battery safety and other topics.

When I first started building, I would watch tons of videos and read many sites on how to build, what to use, etc. Honestly, my first build looked horrible. The wraps weren't consistent but it fired and I was happy. The more I built, the better I got and I have enjoyed it ever since. I started using 24 awg and I've stuck with that. Now I'm actually building nano coils with it and so far its went well for me.

Thanks for the reply! :)

I watched my friend build the coils several times. I've never done it before but it looks simple enough. I just need to make sure I do it right and not jump the gun. I'll look into those apps- I'm an iphone user though so hopefully they have it or something similar. I have zero understanding of ohm laws and all this technical stuff. I basically just need to know EXACTLY what the ohm meter should read to be safe with my batteries. here is a pic of two that I have.. I have others but same brand just a lower number. I must have misplaced them though .. I'm sticking to these batteries though just to keep this simple

7.2 watts? You mean 126 watts. :D

Learning how to build your own coils and how maintain your gear is important, even if someone is doing the majority of the work for you. Your propensity for catching their potential mishaps becomes that much higher. Coil building is pretty straightforward; wrapping wire evenly around a drill bit or screwdriver of the appropriate size until it looks like a little cylinder with leads on each end. Wicking is a balancing act of getting enough wick so that the fluid can travel within the fibers well.
Learning Ohm's Law will help you avoid building pipe bombs that can end in disaster. The Vape Blast incident on Reddit and the internets is a good example of this.

Good luck and vape safe! No pipe bombs, please.

Here is a great place to start E-Cigarette Forum - Baditude - Blogs

The problem I see is... There is a huge difference in the limitations between the two batteries you're using.

With the 1600 mah (30a) battery, the lowest you should safely go is .19 ohm, that's 22 amps. That gives you 25% headroom for errors. Whereas with the 10 amp battery the lowest you can safely go is .56 ohm, that's 7.5 amps.

So if you're going to be switching out the batteries on the same build, the lowest build you can do IMO is .56 ohm.

Your pictures are too small for me to positively identify your batteries.
Efest has a habit of re wrapping some low quality cells and overstating / using marketing hype ratings instead of the actual CDR of many of their batteries.
Multiple reliable independent testing sources confirm this.

In testsing the efest 1600 mah "struggles" at 20a and above.
the efest 2000mah is acceptable up to 7a, " but they have problems with 10a."
I do not want nor will I use a battery that struggles or has problems handling their rated or below rated specs.

I suggest building coils that result in an amp load below the independently tested recommendations, or, buying good batteries from a reputable vendor / dealer.
