Use the link above to find vendors that are diketone (diacetyl and a few others) free.

FYI, to be concerned is good, but please don't panic. Even if it turns out that diacetyl in ejuice causes lung problems (which there is NO proof of yet), using it in your juice for a few weeks isn't likely to cause an issue.

Cigarette smoke contains diacetyl too, so even more important is this : don't go back to smoking! I promise you, vaping is better than smoking, even if there are a few risks.

Welcome to ECF!

As a recent non-smoker, you should rest assured that even if your current liquid contains diketones (diacetyl and related compounds), it is likely hundreds of times safer than smoking. Although I avoid them, I am sure I have vaped those types of liquids in the past, but I have peace of mind that vaping a bit of them is not likely to cause any significant damage. They are most likely to be present in sweet or creamy flavors, so if you are using a tobacco or menthol flavor, they may not be present at all.

In other words, don't go back to smoking over this or throw anything away, just move away from them as you research and find flavors you like that are tested free of them. At four weeks, I hope you are already breathing easier!

I just moved to vaping unflavored with menthol (DIY), no more worrying about what is in the flavors. I actually enjoy flavorless more, now I can just vape the way I want without any concerns over how the flavor is affected. The cost is also a fraction of what I was paying before.

ive new here. reading thro and found about this diacetyl.. im not a chemist so its quit bothering to me.. im new in this vaping thing.. finally manage to stop smoking for 4 weeks and then read about this diacetyl.. how do i know if the ejuice is contain diacetyl or not.. there no label to read on most ejuice...

As other have Mentioned, you can e-Mail your Retailers and Ask them for Certified Lab Reports.

Unfortunately, not All or even the Majority of e-Liquid Retailers/OEM's are onboard with Publishing Lab Reports for the e-Liquids they Sell.

One other thing you can do if you are Concerned is to Steer Away from "Buttery" or "Creamy" Flavors. Because these are the Type of Flavors where Diacetyl are usually found.

BTW - This Diacetyl issues is Not something new. And when it First surfaced, there was Concerns about Flavorings. So Many Retailers Switched from Diacetyl containing Flavorings to Flavorings that contained Acetyl Propionyl.

Unfortunate, many believe that Acetyl Propionyl is just as Potentially Harmful as Diacetyl. So Switching from one Name recognized Chemical to a Not So Recognized Chemical really didn't do anything.

If you are going to Ask a Retailer/OEM about Diacetyl, you should Also be asking about Acetyl Propionyl.

BTW2 - Here is some Information about Diacetyl and Acetyl Propionyl. As well as what this Trade Organization feels are appropriate levels.

I also have quite a concern over the use of diacetyl/AP in e-liquids. As a result I've taken measures that I feel minimize the risk greatly.

For one, I've started cutting the pre-mixed juices that I enjoy (and I know they have quite a bit of diacetyl/AP in them) with straight VG. I've found that you can actually cut most pre-mixed juices with a LOT of VG/PG before flavoring begins to become noticeably muted. In an RDA with no reduced airflow, I'm not "flavor-chasing" by any means anyway, so no major flavor loss surprisingly.

Not only that, I've begun DIY-ing with extremely small amounts of flavorings that I'm very confident have no diacetyl/AP in them.

In reality, the diacetyl/AP thing is scary just because of the "we don't know what happens" factor. We're the guinea pigs. All evidence seems to say we'll be fine, but there's still that remote possibility that we're inhaling harmful chemicals. A big part of the question is "how harmful?" As long as it's less than cigarettes, I'm fine to continue vaping. The real disconcerting thing is "only time will tell." Even if people are getting sick because of vaping, it'll take them years to link the two.

There are a lot of discussions all over the forum, some of which I've started, many of which I've participated in. The underlying factor is that you need to make the best decision you can in favor of your health. I'd suggest steering clear of any juices which have claimed to be diacetyl-free but are later proven to be chock full of diacetyl (Cuttwood comes to mind.. Suicide Bunny.. A few other juice companies).

Noob question here, how to DIY unflavored mentol e-juice?

You can scoop some menthol crystals from a reputable vendor (there are a lot of choices if you browse the DIY forum or the Vendors section up top).

VG and PG are even easier to find. As long as it's USP/"food grade"/99.7%/kosher then it's good to go.

I'm sure many will chime in with the mixing of pg/vg/nic/menthol but this is what I do! I buy pg/vg/nic already mixed (unflavored). I also have a bottle of menthol drops. If I want menthol I put a drop in, done. IF I want a little flavor, I will put one drop of flavor in. I use a REO so the bottles are 6ml. It's really easy this way! It's easy to DIY all the way, I'm sure. I just love getting it already mixed unflavored :)

I ordered the menthol crystals from Wizard lads. I mixed that one bottle (15 grams) with 250ml of PG, which for me is the perfect ratio. So for about $15 I have 250ml of the only flavoring I use.

The one 250ml (mixed) bottle of menthol will make 5 250ml bottles of my final ADV (20% ratio).

How much do you use in a batch of finished menthol ejuice, let's say 30ml?
