I started vaping on and off a few months ago, with the intention of quitting analogs for good eventually. Being a "habitual" smoker i'm using the vaping in place of my "automatic light ups" ie: driving, sitting in front of my computer, or having a couple of beers (chimney time!). I was a pack+ a day, now down to less than half a pack and counting.

I started with an ego kit from a local B&M store: 2 650mah batteries, charger, and 3 poly filled cartos. My carto was reaching the end of its life cycle this week and they are closed for vacation. WHAT A GOOD THING! I found myfreedomsmokes.com and realized how badly I was being overcharged because I was told "only our tanks and cartos will fit our batteries because they have different threading" by the shop owner, and paying 2x as much for juice. So, wanting to try some sort of a tank system after not knowing how much juice I had left leading to inconsistent hits, I ordered the Vision Nano clearomizer and a CE5 dual coil Clearomizer, and some more juice. I'm using RY4 in 24mg and ordered both PG and VG to try. I'm trying to achieve an as close to the real thing TH without the irritating throat burn, the reason I'm mixing in some VG. BTW, the tanks I ordered fit the shops batteries PERFECTLY. In fact, the 510 threading of the Nano threads in better than the cartos I was getting at the shop. They were a little sloppy.

So far: I tried the VG mix in the CE5. I find the hit to waaay to heavy. So much vapor it makes me cough. I'm currently vaping with the Vision Nano with mainly the PG mix with a little VG added to it. Smoother and better vapor production over the poly filled cartos for sure. Yes, it tasted funny for a while almost a plain veggie oil taste and a little plastic like. I think this was due to the the carto being primed, as I have read about. I took the tip off and washed it last night and the taste has improved. The weird thing, however, was that after drying the tip and putting it back on I had a ".... like" bubbling sound and was getting some juice in my mouth. I still don't know why but it has stopped and is working normally. Nice long drags, great vapor and TH, no irritating burn.

I like the Vision nano so far. I'll probably try a CE4 in the future next order if I find I need more capacity.

Great site & sorry for the long post, but I had a lot to say ;)

Happy vaping!

Hello and Welcome to ECF
I'm glad you found this forum, and also an online vendor to replace the B&M, I am hearing more and more stories about bad or incorrect advice and info from B&M's which is a sad thing. And I don't understand they must realize new vapors will eventfully start researching on the web. And once someone does that will find out they were mislead by the B&M. And no matter what You search e-cig/vaping related most likely a link to ECF will pop up. And I honestly believe that on ECF You will get differences of opinion, but will not be purposely mislead. So if You have any questions or concerns ask them here, You will get responses and from there decide what would best suit You.

Welcome, Tommyh,

I'd guess that when you washed out the Nano you got some water in the center air tube. As you say, no big deal, as a few draws on it and it cleared up.

Most of use don't vape straight PG or VG, but some sort of mix. I happen to like 80/20 PG/VG, others prefer 50/50, or ... it's a matter of personal preference. But PG (along with nic) is what provides throat hit, VG the vapor. It might take a few trys to find your preferred mix.

If you decide to get into the CE world, don't get the CE4 - it's not rebuildable. The CE5 types are made so you can just replace the coil / head with a new one (or recoil them if you're so inclined) cheaply, and have essentially a brand new device.

You might also consider something like the Evod or T3S. They're bottom coil devices, and the vape is a little different from the top coil CEx and Novas. (BTW, the Nano is a bottom coil.)

Enjoy the trip!

Welcome, Tommy. My first day too.

My reasons for sticking with the CE4 are:
- CE4s look about 1/4" shorter without the knurled ring on the bottom. I want a short PV.
- There are several vendors of CE5 clearomizers and I've read not all brand heads fit all brand tanks.
- CE5s plus heads ARE cheaper, but not what I'd consider significantly so.
- CE5s can be disassembled and cleaned more thoroughly, but I'd rather just swap tanks.
- The plastic tank and o-rings are going to need replacing at some point anyway.

YMMV and my opinion is subject to change. :)

Welcome to the forum, tommyh, and congrats on becoming a vaper! ECF is perhaps the most valuable resource for new vapers, witness the advice you're already getting!

I'm sorry you had that unsatisfactory experience with your local B&M. The ecig business is expanding so rapidly that at this point it seems a lot of vape shops open without the necessary knowledge and experienced staff to give their customers good advice on their products. Hopefully this will change as more experienced vapers join the workforce and as owners gain knowledge and experience themselves. Unfortunately, I don't have a single B&M near me, but if I did and the same thing happened to me, I'd probably want to go back and explain to them, nicely, how they screwed up... er, how they gave me bad advice, and how they could have been more helpful. Just my opinion.
