New here, obviously ;) I need advice!

Hello everyone,
I was reading some threads on here to try to get information on e-cigs. I ended up making myself even more confused. -.- I am looking into using e-cigs to hopefully replace my "analog" smoking habit, but I have no idea where to even begin my search. I am very picky about my cigarettes right now, I will only smoke Camel Silver (light menthol, with extra menthol "capsule"). I am so picky, that in a pinch I would much rather suffer through withdrawals instead of lighting a different type of cigarette. I have not found an alternative analog that I enjoy in the past 3 years I've been smoking.

And so begins my first conundrum, aside from which brand of vaporizer to choose. I am literally terrified that I won't be able to find a liquid that would closely mimic the taste of my preffered cigarette, and I would give up and go back to analogs, solely based on the taste.

My next conundrum, is, well. WTF. I started reading listings for starter kits and liquids and cartridges and. And. WTF. I have no idea where to begin with this stuff, I'm having a hard time deciding which nicotine strengths to go with, or what brand to choose, or anything. I am currently a half-a-pack-per-day smoker, and as far as I can understand, battery life won't matter that much to me. I've read that a lot of systems come with a USB charger. My car happens to have a USB port for charging mobile devices, and almost all of my current habit is centered around my car. (I keep my cigarettes in my console rather than on my person)

Another thing that I would take into consideration is overall cost. A pack of my preffered cigarettes is $5.50. If I can find a system that will average out overall to equal or less than that, I would be pleased. I was originally looking at Blu, and started thinking that they might be a great option due to the overall average cost I figured out and their availability in my area. (A local gas station chain offers the cartridges OTC, which I find to be extremely convenient)
BUT I came on here and heard horror stories over them. I'm not looking to start a flame war like other threads have, but I was wondering if they were really THAT bad, or if they might be okay for my situation.


tl;dr someone PLEASE help me understand the basics of e-cigs. maintenance, use, etc.

I've never used a Blu so I can't really help you there. I don't really know anything about them. They might be fine for you... or they might not. I'll let someone else with experience with the Blu weigh in on that.

My advice is when you find a starter kit that suits you, research some liquids that are similar to your brand (you're probably not going to get anything that has the exact same flavor, but you could get something close) and buy that liquid and maybe a few that are similar. On the flip side, when I started I bought a liquid that was *supposed* to taste like my brand of choice (it didn't) and then bought two other flavors. Turns out I like the 2 others better than the one I was supposed to be used to.

Like I said, you're most likely not going to get something that matches your brands particular flavor. I think you have to broaden your horizons a bit. If you really want to quit cigarettes and think ecigs is the way to go then do your research and give it a go!

ok here goes nothing ... i have only been doing this a few weeks but i took advise from a friend who has been doing this for years ... first off you will not find a flavor like your cigarettes but there are so many scrumptious flavors out there ... i tried a bunch of his flavors and found one i really liked ... then i got two ego 1000mah passthrough battery (very heavy smoker) and two clearomizer 2.0 ohms and started vaping ... got everything at one site and have not looked back ... you could probably go for 650 mah battery yourself get 2 you will find either ego or kgo and you don't need the passthrough most likely ... the hard part is the flavor and nicotine amount i suggest your first bottle of e-liquid be 18mg and adjust up or down from there

Because cigs burn and ecigs vaporize, you will not find anything that is like a camel. It does sound like you are looking for a smaller devise to start with so a good option would be a volt. They have prefilled cartridges like the Blue and sell sample pacs of their flavors so you can see wjich one you like before you order bottles of juice. I buy the prefilled then juice to match to refill them with. You can charge them in your car with the usb charger and an adapter or they have a charging case you can charge and take with you that will charge the batteries four times before it needs recharging. If you smoke 1/2 pack a day you could try 12 or 18 mg strength juice. They also have a subforum here you can get questions answered

I have to second Prism's comments. What you seem to be looking for is an e-cig, not an e-cigar or anything large like the 1000mah, or larger, devices. The Volt system is pretty good and seems to be "tuned" for maximum vapor and convenience. Their product quality is among, if not, the best as is their customer support. Your biggest problem will be finding the right flavor, and there are hundreds of vendors and thousands of flavors. Do check out the Smokeless Image forum, you'll find lots of good information and great people over there and you can't really go wrong with a Volt kit from them.

I find your post most interesting.
I too was a 1/2 pack or less per day. I kept my cigarettes at home & only smoked on the porch at home. And I would only smoke Sherman's MCDs. I would have to drive 24 miles round drip to the closest place to buy a pack. And they cost $11.79/pack!!!
Like you I would rather do without than smoke something else I could find at the local gas station.
So what happened when I decided to vape???
I find this crazy illogical:
I use 24 mg nicotine.
I use a 3.7 volt battery (a Kgo)
And I vape & once every other day or two I smoke ONE of my Sherman's.
So bottom line here: you don't know what will satisfy you till you try it! So follow the suggestions from the veterans here & enjoy the journey. You will be glad you came.

Blu disposables are what got me off stinkys. I used to carry one around for emegency use. I decided to get a Joyetech Ego kit because I didn't want to charge the batteries that often. I have a coworker that has a Blu system. He likes it but it tends to be more expensive than other comparables in the long run. He has also been asking about my set up latetly.
At a half pack a day that might not be an issue for you. The Volt has a lot of fans. I would recommend that or a Joyetech 510 kit or similar battery system. Just make sure you get something with a 510 thread, You can get adapters pretty cheap but the 510 thread is pretty universal. The only adapter you might need is a 510 to ego. Then you could use almost anything out there.
The prefilled carts are hassle free but tend to mute flavor and typically cost more in the long run.
Welcome to the wonderful world of vaping. Jump on in the water is fine (AND stink free).

Edit= Wouldn't recommend leaving your kit in the car for long periods. The heat can mess with the juice a bit.

Another problem with leaving things in the car is the heat just ain't good for the batteries, no matter who's battery it is except maybe the battery under the hood...and that's just a tad too big to vape with

Hi congrats on the choice to vape...I would say go for it I know a few people who have quit using Blu, you could buy one of the disposables and try it before you buy a full kit and if you don't care for it then you can move on ...and you have only lost a few bucks.

I was you 2 days ago came here not knowing anything.. read a few posts and was more confussed than anything else...Until I got hold of member that walked me threw the whole process of purchasing and what I needed to get by. I haven't received my e-cig yet just ordered it yesterday. First step take a deep breath. Second step really try to figure out what you need to quit for me, I needed a heavy nic juice because I smoke 2+ packs a day full flavour. I needed something that was easy to use and under a hundred dollars actually 80.. And was able to find it. Youtube also helped me understand what a e-cig did and how to take care of it..

I guess the best advice is to apply the KISS principle, keep it simple stupid. Whatever system you select, 808 or 510, think carefully about what you want to accomplish and how easy your selection will be to use and maintain. Yes, Volt is 808 and not as "popular" as 510 devices, but everything they sell works with everything they sell, and their larger battery systems also accept Ego threaded devices with no adapters necessary if and when you're ready for bigger and "better" things. This is all probably information you don't need or want at this point, so the best bet is to select a "one stop shop" where you can get everything you need, batteries, cartridges, liquids and accessories. Keeping it simple like that will greatly improve your chance of success. Best of luck with your efforts!
