Well, I'm not one to do this but this forum has a requirement that I only post here, so I guess I'll go ahead and give a little background about myself

I'm 21 years old, started smoking cigarettes when I was 13, and got up to 2 packs a day by the time I was 17. I loved everything about smoking. the taste, the "break" in the day, the social aspect.. everything.. except stinking like smoke when I walked into work (I work at a restaurant.. UGH!) and paying $6 a pack.

About 2 years ago my dad started vaping (quitting a 25+ year smoking habit) and gave me a 901 starter kit with some Chinese tobacco juice. I liked it, don't get me wrong, but something was missing. I vaped sometimes, but still smoked about a pack a day. it was nice when i didn't wanna go outside or before work so i wouldn't stink but it was no replacement for a cigarette.

he got me a 510 starter kit after finding that's what he liked, and i liked that alot better.. although it was still no cigarette, and i still smoked a pack a day, every day, faithfully. i would mooch off his juice, which was always some crappy tobacco flavor, which is probably why i didn't like vaping too much..

about a year ago i completely stopped using my Pvs and went back to about a pack and a half a day habit.

well, about a month and a half ago, i got fed up with never being able to save money. fed up with being a slave to a pack of cigarettes, willing to buy a black n mild with quarters if i "needed" to. fed up with that old stale smell on every garment i owned.

$6/day was just not acceptable any more. i tried to quit cold turkey, and quickly found myself going crazy after less than 3 days. i charged up my old 510 battery and started puffing on some old juice i had. hey, not too bad.. i was much more open to the idea of vaping.

the vapor production was kinda weak so i went searching on the internet about various pvs, atomizers, basic info i never really bothered to research before. i decided to stick with the 510, but try out a new battery/atomizer and some new juice.

on my PRELIMINARY search, i decided to go with joye510usa.com, and got a battery, atomizer, and some 24 mg Pepsi juice. when I got it in the mail, whoa. the vapor was outta this world, and i was extremely satisfied. before i knew it, 2 weeks had gone by, and i had only smoked ONE cigarette that whole time, while drinking. and though i finished it, because i bummed it from a friend, it was pretty nasty.

afterwards, i found these forums and have been lurking for a while, reading reviews about vendors, products, etc.

since i've quit, about a month and a half ago, i've had less than 7 cigarettes, all while drinking, none of which i enjoyed. cost wise.. well, it hasn't saved me much money I don't think. but honestly, now that i'm turned on to vaping, it would be worth it if it cost more than smoking.

i've gone thru 90 mL of juice so far, due to using old faulty carts that my dad rigged up with PT bags. but a week ago, i invested in a sit n go USB passthru and some clear smart cart tank cartridges, and cut about half of the padding on them off.. .. and whoa! this is what it's all about.. i go thru 1.5-2 mL a day now, as opposed to the obscene amount i was vaping before.

just placed an order for a new Joye 510 atomizer just as a backup from kingpincigs, and 65 mL of juice from madvapes, and i'm lovin it.

i've spent about $100 on all of my e-cigarette supplies so far, which should last a total of about 90 days. i'm 45 days and $100 in now, so it doesn't look SO good.. but guess what.. I used to spend almost $200 a month on cigarettes, and it was slowly killing me and making me smell TERRIBLE. my girlfriend of 2 years used to hate me smoking, and assured me i would NOT be smoking a cigarette anywhere NEAR our future children, and i would have to quit eventually. and while she thinks i'm a nerd for vaping, she likes kissing me and not tasting an ashtray and she's definitely happy that i'm not willingly putting poison in my body.. what was i thinking?!

so i couldn't be more happy with my decision to quit cigarettes.. i knew about vaping i just wasn't ready to take the plunge.. and now i'm SMOKE FREE.. something i literally thought i'd never be able to say.

thank you all and happy vaping!

The up front cost does deter some and it catches everyone because people think about a 50 - 90 dollar investment being some huge chunk when they're coughing up 50 bucks a week most the time on a carton of smokes without batting an eye. That's what got me was sitting down and looking at the numbers, I may have spent in the park of $150 my first month in the search for juices and stuff I liked but at the end of the day I'm still using most of the juice up after 2 months and haven't spent but 20 bucks on stuff I wanted more of....2 months+ for 170 bucks? Versus my $160 a week smoking habit...no bad if you ask me. It gets cheaper if you can keep your hands off the PV's and mods...but that's hard.

I think the up-front costs will start to be less of a deterrent as the price of a starter kit is now in the range of a carton of cigarettes. And I feel safe saying the price of cigarettes is going to increase faster than the price of e-cigs.

But I do find that I notice the cost of e-cig supplies more than I did the price of a carton when I smoked. I think it has something to do with entering cc info on a website versus sliding cash across the counter.

it's mostly expensive to get all the luxuries you want... and figure out what you like. i know my dad must've spent $500 his first month.. and it's hard seeing things you want to try EVERYWHERE! and yeah it's always hard to part with my cc number online.. no instant gratification!

I quit about 1.5 years ago and have been vaping ever since. Granted it is cheaper, however, unlike analogs vape supplies come "all at once" and can appear to be costly. This makes my wife cringe as she thinks I am spending the same amount as before.

One thing I have done to ease this appearance is put money aside every week, that I would have spent on cigarettes. At least every other month I place an order for juice, attys, etc. Normally by this time, I have saved around $180-$200 and end up spending $100 or so. Heck 9x's out of 10 I end up buying crap I don't need and still have money left over.

Anyway, my point is that $100 for 90 days is great considering you'd spend $5 or more per pack of analogs, which at 90 days would be in the $450 range.

One tip though, check out some of the mods talked about on this site. A good one will change your gaping experience all together.

mods are my next thing to look into.. when i get to it. i'm a little overwhelmed w/ info as it is.. but this sit n go passthru has been gettin it done so far as i have a charging usb port built into the aftermarket stereo in my car, and i'm on the computer alot at home..

i fudged my numbers a little.. more like $120 to last me 70 days.. still pretty excellent, and i agree w/ doots, health over everything.

i was honestly living a life where i didn't expect to live past 60, and i thought i was okay with that. sheesh.

between here and there
Welcome and congrats on switching to ecigs. If you like passthroughs, look at an eGo passthrough or a Leo....both function as a passthrough, and then unplug and take it with you...stays charged just like a reg ecig......I plug in wherever I go, at work, home, in my car. So I am always fully charged when I get to my destination. both of these batteries will last unpluged for around 6 -8 hours depending on your vaping habits.....
Mods are great also.....go for a vv(variable voltage) and dial in the amount of power you want,.....
all of this is just suggestions for the future...
Glad you found ecf.......I always love a success story...

I hear you. The thing that kept me from buying everything in sight a year ago was a tight budget. I ended up spending a ton of time on the ecf doing research (which sounds a lot better than goofing off) so that I could make the most informed decision. It seemed like every time I was about to pull the trigger on the latest and greatest, something new would pop up, and I would wait to see what the reviews said.

In the end, I'm still using a 3.7 box mod and Boge cartos. It works, so my lust for new products is kept in check. But I hear those dual coil cartos are really nice.....

Well , expensive as it can be to start out . Your health and well being is way more important . I know I have spent nearly 600.00 in two months , but I bought several mods (because they were there) and ordered enough juice to last , several months . But I still think , I made the right decision , to quit smoking . I feel a lot better , breath better , sleep better . And best of all , I don't stink , like a dirty , old ashtray . So , i say , what's your health , worth to you ?????

Congrats Mr. Texas! I've been vaping (sorta) for 2 weeks. My eGo-T came last Saturday and I have smoked a few analogs since then. However, yesterday, was my first day without an analog!! What I really am enjoying - which I am sure you will agree - is driving the car with the a/c blowing and the windows rolled up. It is way too hot here in Texas to be a smoker!!

My husband, too, hated my ashtray/.... breath. I've posted before but what I really have noticed is that my fingers don't stink. Every night before I would head to bed and I wash - and wash - and wash my hands but I couldn't get rid of the smoke smell.

I figure it will take about 30 days for me to break even. That's if I don't order more juice - which there are a couple I am pretty sure I can't live without.

I agree about the upfront cost being a large deterrent and while yes you can get very reasonable kits online for many of us our first experience was seeing the waaaaaay overpriced kits either at a mall kiosk or online banner add. The thought of dropping $100 or more on something I didn't know I would like is what kept me from tying this a year ago. And even though I still started with an overpriced kit from a kiosk I at least got to try it out several times before buying to make sure I was OK with it.

It wasn't really about the cost but rather potentially wasting money that initially kept me from it. After all my health is priceless!

I got lucky, and found out about them from a co-worker. He clued me in to the ecf as well.

Fortunately, I've been able to steer a few people to reputable vendors since then.
