Hey just joined up, I can see that this is a technology that's really nitty gritty on all the different types of products, maintenance, etc. I've been into it for about a week, my logic was to spend a hundred bucks on something high quality and refillable, and that will make me want to stick to the investment and stop buying cigarettes, and it's worked out quite nicely so far - four days in and I've only had like 5 regular cigs, down from a pack a day.

The guy at the vape shop in the mall 20 mi. from my house suggested the itaste CLK 1280 after I explained my purpose, because it has big battery and can power the larger sized tanks. For some reason I decided to go with the Kanger mini Protank II instead of the full size one, even though it was only a few bucks more, but I've ordered a full size Protank III since then. I explained my logic to him and he suggested 24mg and it was pretty nice (Grape Vape by Evo) but the first several drags were harsh - I've read that this is attributed to the coatings they put on the atomizers to prevent oxidization between factory to customer. I'll keep this in mind when my new tank arrives, which comes with 2 atomizers.

Anyway, after driving 20 miles back, I drive by a vape shop in my home town which carries the same hardware, and has better prices on liquid! $10/10mL in the mall, $9/15mL at home. If anyone can get "Gourmet e-liquid by RV", I really like this brand because they make it look like a prescription bottle instead of a flashy product, and they state on the bottle that they use USP Kosher grade glycerol and glycerin. I tried one from iVaporx in another mall and got home, realized it was made in China so I refrained from using it anymore (doesn't even have an ingredients list and was quite harsh). The nicer brand I mentioned also has a more child-safe cap, kind of a pain but it's good if you have curious kids around.

Anyway that's my story, nice to be a part of the forum! :D

Hello and welcome to the forum Sean. Glad to have you here!:)

The harshness also could be attributed to the mg of nicotine or the PG/VG of your e-liquid.

A "general guideline" for nicotine concentration in e-liquid to the number of cigarettes smoked per day:

06 mg = 10 cigarettes or less
12 mg = 20 cigarettes
18 mg = 30 cigarettes
24 mg = 40 cigarettes

Purity of PG, VG and PEG - The Short Version

PG = Propylene Glycol - the "flavor carrier" of e-liquid. A secondary source of "throat hit", but not as strong as the nicotine concentration. Some people have a sensitivity or even an allergy to PG. It's very thin.

VG = Vegetable Glycerin - the "vapor maker" of e-liquid. Used as a sweeter in many food sources, and also as a skin emollient. It's very thick.

PG and VG are often used together in different ratios in e-liquid. For example, a 50/50 PG/VG ratio. Some juice vendors offer a range of different ratios as far as PG/VG.

Welcome to ECF and congrats on taking the plunge, you wont regret it i'm sure. I too smoked a couple analogs for the first few day, now I'm free of the dirty little buggers. :vapor:

What's funny though is I enjoy vaping, variety of flavors, less damaging to the lungs, etc. I didn't really enjoy smoking, it was just an old habit that tasted like garbage.

Also, thanks for the info Susan on the mg/pack per day. I was probably too high at 24mg, just moved down to 16mg and it's much better.:vapor:
