I seem to remember, when reading 'Barbarians at the Gates", that RJR spent $350 million on a smokeless cigarrete, and came up with something that "tasted like s**t and smelled like a fart"... those were the words they used to describe it, anyhow...

Have you ever smoked cigs made from pure Turkish tobacco? That pretty much describes it. Particularly the smell part.

True, that. It's also amazing, just how much they have invested, in the status quo. I've worked with tobacco companies, a bit, on the IT side. The recipes that they've developed for cigarette brands are unbelievable complex and well-guarded. These recipes are stored in enormous databases, incorporating a dizzying array of data (leaf, soil, PH, temp, etc.). It's crazy how much effort they extend to ensure that a Camel Light will always burn and taste like a Camel light, in-spite of vast differences in ingredients & conditions.

Innovation is not their strong suit.

Some of the existing e juice companies must have gotten hold of this recipe.

And I had a pale imitation going on in 2004...I stuffed cinnamon sticks inside plastic drinking straws and cut them to cigarette size. I got some strange looks, but it was oddly effective.

When I quit in 2001, I used the filters you can get for rollies, put them in little cigarette holder/filter mouthpieces and put a drop of peppermint oil on them. Helped somewhat.

Yes, very frustrating!!! The "concept" patents as far back as the 30's. The "Smoke-free cigarette" has been out there before by the "Tobacco Companies". Hard telling how many others have been buried also!
"The nicotine inhaler and nicotine spray have also been approved as smoking cessation drugs by the FDA, but to date the agency has not approved them for over-the-counter sale. Ironically, the nicotine inhaler evolved from a “smoke-free” cigarette. Sold under the brand name Favor in the 1980s, the cigarette was forced off the market by the FDA in 1987 because it was deemed a “drug delivery device.” Just ten years later the FDA approved Johnson & Johnson’s Nicotrol inhaler as a nicotine delivery device which could be used for smoking cessation."
