I have gone through this thread and some ppl have been reporting leaks. Or dropplets coming out of the rba base. Not sure if its too little cotton used. Overvaping without replacing the cotton. Using too thin eliquid . not properly filling the eliquid from the bottom Or manually the airholes were enlarged

There you go. More preventative measures:D

So my current coil is 2.2 ohms, about 10ish wraps or so of 30 gauge kanthal wire and some rayon. Maybe I suck at rebuilding or something, but I am getting somewhat harsh hits. Like too much throat hit, using the exact same juice as I did before. I typically enjoy a smoother mouth to lung hit with a tighter draw and low throat hit. I haven't been using the RBA much because of the TH. I've messed around with it a few times, but I don't like to mess around with it too much when I just wanna vape and so I just use the regular base with the BVC. I want to like the RBA but... I need some tips on getting a better build for a smoother hit. I don't know if its my build or the wick or whatever.

Do you have a multimeter? Blinking can mean short circuit or open circuit, from what I understand of the instructions, but have not tested that myself yet. If the rba base checks out with the multimeter, I would try screwing the base in until it is firm, then back it out a quarter turn at a time to see if it comes good (i.e. a connection issue between the rba base and the mod).

Another possibility, if its a brand new coil, is there could be shorted turns, try freeing it up a bit and do a short dry burn. Oops you can't do a dry burn if the resistance is too low - do you have the rba adaptor to put it on another mod to do a dry burn?

Or you could try putting one of your old known good coils back in there to see if that works.

I think the only way to restrict the airflow is to go back to the regular atty head. Btw, I was able to get the RBA to fire properly. 5 clicks- turn the mod off- then change the head, then 5 clicks and turn the mod on. It's worked flawlessly now! Wow, what a hit. I need to lower my Nic on this thing now!!

Kyi, If you have a 510 adapter try heating the coil and watching for 'hot legs' or only partial heating. I'm running around 2.8 ohm and haven't had a problem with that.

Also, do you have enough rayon? Look to see if the rayon in the coil has collapsed. If there isn't enough rayon it may leave space open in the coil and cause uneven heating and hot spots.

And check your end trim too... if you have too much on the ends it will restrict wicking. Don't forget to trim about half of the top end off short and angle down to the bottom end which lays on the deck.

Hope that helps

Ok y'all, I need some serious help here.

I'm onto my third new coil (kept the first two) and the damn thing keeps blinking....I assume it's a short, but I don't see where. Everything looks perfect, for the third effing time. And yet my egrip is sidelined.

And......I have given up. 10-12 iterations, everything looks great, light keeps blinking. This is not rocket science. I do not understand.

Cracker,

Neither of mine would work straight out of the box either... blinky, blinky. Take a look at the bottom of the RBA and use a screwdriver to turn the inner contact until snug (you'll see the slot.) I haven't dissected one, but I'm thinking the center pin isn't always tight enough to make a good contact.

Hope that helps.

Short answer: If you put a coil in it that is greater than 1.50 ohms resistance you ARE NOT getting 20w from this device!

Longer answer: wattage = volts x volts ÷ ohms. The Egrip can provide a maximum output voltage of about 5.5v so:

5.5v x 5.5v ÷ 1.5ohms = 20.16 watts max

5.5v x 5.5v ÷ 2.2ohms = 13.75 watts max

5.5v x 5.5v ÷ 2.8ohms = 10.8 watts max

If your coil res goes below 1.5 and you select the 20w setting the egrip just turns the voltage down to provide 20w max. Minimum of 1.1 ohms coil build.

Fastest heatup and cooldown times as well as the widest range of REAL full range wattage selection is best with a 1.2-1.5 ohm build.

Hope this helps.

I have a few packs of the pre-built Joyetech coils. What I'm finding out is, these are coming out below the 1.2 ohm rating. I've been getting .09 and 1.1 readings. Some are 1.3. Just a heads up for people that might be having problems and are using these.

I don't have "packs" of coils, but do have 8 of them. They all test at 1.2-1.3 Ohm, haven't seen any below this. Do the ones that test so low look any different (Less loops in the coil?).

Very strange, I would almost say test/verify on a different meter.

Will your Egrip fire the .09 & 1.1 ohm CS coil heads?

I've tested on my evic and segeli's. I've looked at them real close and really don't see a difference between them. I thought it was strange also

Are CS heads spaced coils or contact coils. If contact coils they could be shorting between turns in a place or two.

These are the 5 in pack coils for the rba base that Joyetech sells. Going to space the wraps out some, when I get some time. Right now, its firing good with 1.3 coil. Leaving it alone. lol
