So I foolishly tried to replace a coil at work, without magnification, because I was too lazy to just replace the cotton (I didn't use enough when I switched it before, and it was gurgling)....and now it won't fire. Just a blinking light. Probably a short or something, but I'm also too lazy to screw with it just now.....maybe this glass of wine will help.

Glass of wine will definitely help! Meanwhile try just taking it out and putting it back in again - you never know.

Has anyone come up with a workable idea to redue the airflow on the rba base? Barring holding a kleenex over the bottom (it works), which is not so elegant, I'm out of ideas LOL

I think the blinking light means short or open circuit, have not tested it myself, and the instructions are ambiguous.

Amanda, I carved a thin wedge from a toothpick and stuck it in the rba air hole, it works great. Its not the best solution but it works. Masking tape with a hole enlarged with a toothpick works too.

I'll try the toothpick. I did try the tape, but the spitting moisture stopped the masking tape sticking!

Been lurking in this thread since Sunday. Got my silver egrip, rba base, 510 adapter, ohm meter, and Youde tool kit in Monday from VapeNW. Appreciate the shared experiences. Spared me a panic attack when the short protection kicked in. This is my first experience with an rba. Think I'm finally getting a handle on wicking after much experimentation. Just thought I would share a word of caution. I've been covering the usb port w/ electrical tape to err on the safe side. Turns out it'd be mighty prudent to also cover the fire button. Had the slightest bit of tap make it's way into the space around it. Now I'm the proud new owner of a black egrip.

Its no different to any other RBA/RTA on the market, it works under the same principles. How often you need to change the wick or coil would depend on how many mils of juice have been vaporized, what type of juice, coil build and wicking material used.

If you mean - Does the rba coil last longer than a factory coil head? Then, probably yes it does, but with greater flavor, they are like chalk and cheese. I am getting much better life than I expected from the rba coil and wick. The system is good. It is a good package.

I got my rba-base a couple of days ago and found the airflow to be just fine. Don't know why, since I used to like a tight draw. I guess my preference has changed over time... I did experience a leak through the rba base, but that happened when the tank was almost empty and hasn't happened since. I'd love to get the adapter, but haven't been able to find it in Europe yet. Does anyone know of where I could buy one? US is no option since vendors don't usually ship overseas.

Maybe ask a European egrip vendor to order some in with the next shipment? The UK vendors should be carrying them soon I would expect.

Do we change the cotton and the coil at the same time? Or can a coil last several rewicks?

When we recoil this rba do we need to do a dry burn on the coil without any wick in? I've seen this done a few times on YouTube videos.

Finally, is there a way to quieten the rba down? I've got rid of the gurgling but the noise through the air hole is far louder with the stock coils, it makes it much less stealthy.

I'd probably rinse the coil/wick with water before changing flavors or you might get kind of a funky taste from the mingled juices. I rinsed mine last night because the flavor was degrading after 5 days of use.

I haven't cleaned mine yet, RBA on day 8 now (installed on 12-26-14)
no re-wicking yet, same coil, over 30ml of juice (fruit flavors so I mix/match)
After a few back to back lung hits (3 @ 20w) I did get a burnt cotton taste, but low juice level also Normally a mouth to lung hitter...was playing )

I cut a small rectangle and wedged in in the base across the air hole. I used some magnetic strip material I had, but pressure on the sides is what's holding it in place, so you could use something else. I just pop it out to remove the base.

No video or pictures. I posted what I did earlier... probably 15-20 pages ago

First thing was to compare the RBA base to the stock base, and see where the vent holes were in the stock. Matched a drill bit to the hole size, then used a pin vise to drill matching holes in the RBA. Note: those holes must be drilled at a downward angle.

After drilling all 4 holes, I completely disassembled the RBA base, so I could clean out any shavings, and reassemble. Poke the drill bit back in again, to make sure those holes still line up (you're going through 3 different pieces of metal).

To plug the original airhole, I first used a piece of tape. I have since plugged it with a small amount of JB Weld putty, and I'm testing again.

I had leaks at first, but that was (from what I can see) more a case of "not enough cotton".

Once I'm sure I have all the bugs ironed out, I'll post pics on my blog. Alternatively, I'm willing to modify anyone's RBA base for them for the cost of shipping
