Mixing flavors isn't always a bad thing, but starting with a fresh or cleaned out cartridge will let you taste the true flavor better. When a cartridge is empty, just adding flavor to it is usually fine. You can also pull out the filling, run it under hot water and then roll it in a paper towel to dry.

As for the wick in the atty, your only option is to blow the atty out. Put the mouthpiece end up to your mouth and hold a paper towel up to the battery end. Blow through it forcefully until nothing more comes out. Some flavors will still remain in the atty, but short of a thorough cleaning, this is about as fresh as you can make it. Be sure to add 5 or so drops to get it wet again.
