Hey, new to the vape scene, living in Ohio.

Smoking analogue for about 18 years (started on menthol, switch to full flavor regulars, and in the last five years ended on harsh and extremely cheap RYO). On the recommendation of a friend, and on a whim, picked up a Green Smoke express kit (long battery, short battery, wall+usb charger and a pack of five 2.4 cartomizers, absolute tobacco flavor).

Pretty heavy smoker, 2 pack a day kind of habit. Started the express kit three days ago, and I've only had two analogues since starting it. I know I'm going to kick the habit just from this much use of the cigalike, which is far more pleasant and even at Green Smoke prices will be as cheap as/more cheap compared to RYO.

Since ordering the cigalike, I've also been doing a lot of research into vaping, which led me here. I'm not sure I'll be getting heavy into the culture - really I'm just looking for the easiest solution for replacing one really bad habit with one that is less damaging. The dizzying array of gadgets associated with vaping, and all of the tinkering they allow for customization is great. But I need fast, simple solutions that don't require a lot of input on my part and prove cost effective in comparison with analogues.

The express kit is working great for now. Happy with the amount of vapor, daily life of the batteries, and the taste of the pre-filled cartomizers. I'll probably throw 150$ at another 20 packs of the cartomizers, and then start casting a wide net for "other" options that might be cheaper. It certainly looks like refilling with select liquids would be more cost effective in the long run, but seems to require a lot of trial and error, which isn't something I'm interested in at this point (as I said, not looking for a hobby, just a vice replacement!)

The community here does seem great though, and I'm glad to have found it. Lots of information to sort through, but I've found a lot of answers to some basic questions already.

In short: Hello!

Thanks for the welcomes. It isn't the refilling process that is intimidating - it's more the trial and error of finding the right liquids for me that I find daunting. No matter what kind of setup I end up using long term, still need to find liquids that I find satisfying.

There is a vape store nearby where I live though, which will probably help in the long run for experimenting.

Absolutely! Visit your local store and try some out, take some water with you tho' to clear your tongue
Finding e-liquids you like is the hardest part :)

Welcome and congratulations on getting away from the smokes!
Many vape shops have 'juice bars' where you can try out a lot of different flavors. Pick a couple that you like and you'll be off and running.
    Best of luck to you.

I think the local shop has that kind of thing going (the juice bar), so I'll definitely give it a shot. Good call on the water too, daleron - I've noticed I get really dry vaping compared to analogue.

Is it worth buying some compatible empty cartomizers just to experiment with different juices (if I find any I like) on the setup I have now? Or should I just refill some of my empties (found lots of tutorials on refilling GS carts).

Welcome. There are many online juice vendors that you can sample from. I've found that brick and mortar stores' ejuice stinks compared to many of the online stores. Azure vaping is an inexpensive way to try many flavors due to their sampler packs you can buy. The best juice vendor in my opinion is Alien Visions E-Juice. Every juice they make is superior to anything else I have ever tried. The Boba's Bounty e-juice is one of the most popular juices in history for a reason.

    Best of luck to you!
