I'm new to the community and posted this partly to say hi (hi everybody) and partly to ask some questions. I stopped smoking a while ago and have been using MarkTen and Blu cig-alikes to help in that endeavor. I used a $25 ego for a couple weeks but found that I just wasn't knowledgeable enough for it yet and the gurgle was really unpleasant but I always wished I had stuck with it for the customization and higher number of flavors (MarkTen has 4, only one of which I like). I recently bought a box mod for $40 off a friend of mine who was trying to get rid of it and all the information that goes along with that is a bit overwhelming. Its an innokin Cool Fire IV with a Herakles Plus clearomizer (yeah, I googled that word). It seems easy enough but I'm wondering if there is any information I really need to know about that setup, or if there are any upgrades I can learn to master. Any help would be appreciated! Also if there's anyone else out there who's struggled with quitting, keep trying! Its hard I know but I'm sure we'll all thank ourselves when we're sitting in the retirement homes at 80, vaping and listening to rap (old people listening to rap seems weird now but its gonna be a thing, I guarantee it)

Hi and welcome,
Since you bought your friends old kit... THAT friend is sure to be familiar with the unit and could answer almost every question from the other bar stool.

Until then, Here (ECF) and Youtube.

Hello and welcome to the forum @Turnbutm. Glad to have you here!:)

Here are a couple of reviews for you.
If you have the 0.4Ω kanthal coil and/or the 0.2Ω stainless steel coil your Coolfire 4 will be underpowered to preform optimally with these coils.

Priming a Coil

All cotton coils have to be primed well with juice. If they are not primed well the cotton will burn. Once the cotton is burned the burned taste doesn't go away.

To prime the coil, drop 5-8 drops of juice right inside the coil (sometimes less/more depending on the size of the coil head), another drop of juice in all the holes on the side of the coil. Put the coil in the base.
  • If Bottom Filling - Fill the tank and then screw the base back onto the tank.
  • If Top Filling (some tanks are top filled) - Screw the tank on the base and then top fill it.
Once you put the tank on the battery give it several unpowered primer puffs. This will make sure the wick is fully saturated.

Rule of Thumb

The rule of thumb for EVERY vape device you'll ever own is the same (when running in power or wattage/voltage mode). Turn your voltage/wattage down, take a few hits, bump it up, couple more hits. Repeat until you find your "sweet spot". If it starts to taste funny, gets too hot or tastes burnt, back it down. Different flavors will have different sweet spots so you just have to experiment

This is definitely important. Every time you change juice, or coil, or re-wick or whatever. I have a couple juices that anything over 30 watts taste burnt. And a couple that are only good at 50 watts. Always check.

Absolutely that friend should be able to help and I also agree with Chasperk. It's a great thing to go to your local shop for many of reasons. First of all they can give advice on most devices and secondly its a great way to make new friends resources.:thumb:

Thanks for all of these! The friend I bought it from is one of those guys that becomes a part of every "fad" and then drops it after 3 weeks. He actually used to constantly ask me questions about his mod as if I would know about it so he hasn't been much help. I haven't had to replace the coil yet but I've heard that you should change it out every week or two or when the vapor starts to taste burnt? Is there a way to maybe clean them to prolong the life? Also what should I do to clean the tank?

Ive found depending on the coil usually 60 mils of liquid depending on what flavor and ingredients the juice maker used. For the Tank just use hot water but don't let water into the coil.
