I am a 53 year old male, I have been smoking since I was 16 with the exception of an 8 year absence 7 years ago. So that is ~29 years of smoking in total. 2014 is the year I am going to quit for good – health reasons. I have decided after some reading that I will probably need to replace one habit (tobacco) with another (E-cig). For the past 7 years I have smoked Menthol (1.5 packs a day) with the last 3 using roll your own (Premier tubes and Rave tobacco, both Menthol). I smoke at work about 12 cigarettes over an 8 hour period.

I have read just enough about E-cigs to be totally confused ; as equipment goes.

I am currently spending ~ 65 a month for tobacco supplies. I would like to start off spending less than 2 months worth on E-cig equipment. So to start out with a kit and liquid valued at ~$130.

A couple of things that bother me about the equipment is that most of the ‘popular’ units look like a tricorder from Star Trek. Not for me! The others look like they are the size of the Salami hanging behind the butchers counter, again, not for me.

My wish list is as follows: (Yeah I know)

Smallish footprint.
No liquid showing - perhaps just a sight glass.
Fair battery life. USB charging appears to be a nice option.
Fits in a pocket - front shirt or rear pant.
Somewhat easy to maintain – I have no problem stocking replacement parts. I absolutely do not want or need another hobby.

Any info or experiences you can share would be appreciated.

Bob

Something like this maybe?

Hey guys, after reviewing all of the great suggestions, I went with two starter kits.

Kit 1 - Vision Spinner Joye Ego C Twist Combo from myvaporstore. 900 mAh batteries and 2 T3 Clearomizers. Nice bit of kit for the $

Kit 2 - Kanger Mini Protank 2 Starter Kit -VV from Vape Dojo. 650mAh batteries and 2 Kanger Mini Protank II's.

Lots of juice samples from both suppliers. I also picked up a Unitank and replacement heads.

Both kits are very nice, however I really like the Kanger VV kit and the protanks a bit better.

I am in vape heaven. I maybe able to quit the analogs now.

Okay, seems to me that you're looking for an Ego with a clearomizer or a tank, USB charged. There are lots of sites and videos where you can check for em and watch reviews. If you're only looking to quit smoking, an ego and some e-liquid with a nicotine level that suits you and a flavor you will like then you're good to go!
But I must warn you man, with you saying that you're not looking for another hobby, that is the first step in entering this wonderful world of vaping, it's an addictive hobby for me and I love it and I'm sure you'll like it too!
Been vaping since 2009 and not stopping :D

I should also mention that my reason for the switch in thinking is due to reading a ton of posts here on ECF and a common thread was 'I started with a (insert brand name here) cigalike and then I went with an XXXX.

I am really happy that I skipped the 1st stage and listened to the veterans here. Thanks again!!!!

Welcome to ECF!

I swore to myself and my lovely wife that this will not turn into a hobby. So why do I want to order some wire and start re-building? I am catching the vaping bug.

Good place to start. I hope all of this is beginning to make some sense you by now. It does get easier but there is always more to learn.

For starting out the evod starter kits are the way to go. Most local vape shops will have them, as well as a majority of online vendors which may be more cost effective. The major advantage of these is that they are reusable and small. If you do buy from a local store they should be able to properly inform you as to how they work and how to take care of them. Since you dont want a new hobby you will save money by buying only what you need. If you choose to buy online there is a TON of knowledge at ECF and on other websites (youtube) lol. ONce you buy a starter kit, you will only need juice and replacement coils (every couple weeks) which are cheap (couple bucks apiece). Wish you success as this has worked for me going on a year now.

I bought an eGo vv2 by Cijoy and a Kanger Tech EVOD and have had no issues yet. It has a digital voltage adjustment and is USB charged. I charge it a night while sleeping and it is ready in the AM. It lasts me all day with a full cartomizer and a full charge. I wear painters pant jeans all the time and it fits in the tool pocket nicely. The tank I bought is steel not plastic. Helps with durability! As far as juices go, I would suggest you visit a local Vape lounge or shop and sample the wares! That way you find what is best for you! The 24 mg is where I started to keep me from felling like crap during my "Detox" from cigs and it worked for me. Haven't even wanted one since I bought it. I had three left when I purchased my rig and just felt ripped off if I didn't smoke them. It took three days to do it when they would have been gone within the hour under normal circumstances. I haven't had a smoke in over a month now and can't stand to smell them now. After hundred of thousands consumed over the years and now can't stand them. Funny how things change with knowledge! Get into it, drop the analogs and don't look back! You will know what the hype is about after a couple of days! :headbang:

Hey Bob. I first started using a eGo C Twist (it's adjustable). Although I've gotten some larger models, it's still one of my favorites. Relatively small, easy to fill, good battery life. Here's a pic of it on my desk (my wife made the stand, she's very creative. Of course, having a laser cutter/engraver helps!)
Best of luck to you.

Great Goodies, Nice set up and thank you for the reply. Your wife did a great job on that!

Whats really interesting to me is it appears you have labels on your clearos? I thought about this problem early on and then saw a message a second ago asking 'how do you keep track of whats what'. is that what you're doing??
