Hi all. I've just bought a bunch of vaping kit and have been doing a lot of research into what I need to do to use it all.

I have ordered a Smoant Charon 218W Mod, a Serpent SMM RTA and a Coil Master V3 DIY kit. I also bought some cotton, some wire and 2x Samsung 30Q 18650 batteries.

I've spent quite a lot of time reading up on making your own coils and wicking but I'm having a few issues with calculating what I need for the coils. I think I wasted £14 on wire which was the incorrect type. Oh well the Coil Master V3 DIY kit comes with some wire so I'll use that to make my first few coils and if I like that I'll use it.

I'm sure I'll have some questions at some point but I just wanted to introduce myself.

Hello and welcome! Many of us here use this...Steam Engine | free vaping calculators

Yeah someone else linked me that on another forum I read. Very useful but slightly confusing. I might have some questions on how to use it at some point. I think I understand it all but I don't want to make a stupid mistake before I start off.

SMM comes with a pair of coils and some cotton to get you started.

You may want to buy pre-made handmade coils similar to the one your SMM came with. Not sure how satisfying it would be with just regular round wraps. The good news is they last a while. You can also buy a drill and make some fancy coils yourself.

I'd recommend eventually getting a tank that takes premade coils and has a rebuildable base. For example, I ordered a Freemax Fireluke. For emergencies or when i'm not feeling it I can use the premade coils; most of the time i'm putting in my own coils in the rebuildable deck that comes with it.

Also recommend eventually getting a cheap back up mod. I like having something portable so I can use it as a back up and when i'm out of the house.

The key to successfully vaping, assuming you're a smoker, is to make sure you never get in a position where you fall back on cigarettes.

Have a mod, back up mod, have a tank, back up tank, and never let yourself run dangerously low on juice.

Welcome and glad you joined.
Getting the correct wire is a balance act, don't feel too bad, you may end up having ordered the correct wire after all.
Might like to read:
Efficiency. Thinner wire and higher resistance VS thick wire and lower resistance

Yeah I might pick up a box of pre-made coils just in-case something happens and I can't make my own coils. Unfortunately my order isn't going to be here for about 2 to 3 weeks so I'm going to my local vape shop and will see if they have a Nautilus 2 in stock. I have a Smok Alien 220W mod which I bought ages ago but the tank that came with it sucks and for a little bit it kind of put me off vaping (the tank is a TFV8 Baby Beast).

So I'll get a Nautilus 2 today and a packet of spare coils for it and some liquid and I should be off the smokes by this afternoon sometime. Exciting!
