Hello all,

A quick introduction and history. My wife and I had been smokers for about 25 years. There were a few breaks (sometimes for several months) when one or both of us quit, some periods of heavy smoking, some where we would smoke less than half a pack each. Many, many, many attempts at quitting that always resulted in failure. Our most recent attempt involved a prescription of Wellbutrin. Both of us experienced a build-up of the drug that resulted in crippling anxiety — a truly awful experience. And so, we were back on the cigarettes. I didn't think we could ever quit and with both of us in our 40's, I was really worried about our health. I love my wife so dearly and want as much time with her as possible.

Fast forward a few months, a few more attempts at quitting. After another failed attempt (we made it 3 days this time) I found myself heading to the store again to buy a pack of smokes to calm our nerves, the kids had been particularly trying that day and my wife gave me that look that said, "I can't do this, I need a <expletive deleted> smoke!" I went to the store to buy a pack and also picked up two starter packs of the Fin brand e-cigs. I returned home and said, "I got a pack, but I think we should try these." I have a friend at work who vapes and he had (slowly) convinced me that it was a much better alternative. Nicotine gum and patches had not worked for my wife. I think she was as addicted to her "smoke break" as she was to the nicotine. My wife considered the Fin e-cigarettes with skepticism, but promised to give them a try. I left her the next morning with about 10 cigarettes and her e-cig. About noon she called me and said, "This isn't too bad, I think this might work." Two days later, while we were both vaping on the couch watching TV she turned to me and said, "You know, I really like this!"

It has now been over a month we have been smoke-free. We are now using eGo batteries with mega cartomizers. I am seriously looking at getting a Provari and a Z-Atty-Pro. The eGo is about my wife's limit size-wise, she doesn't understand the allure of the Provari and a rebuildable atty. (Suggestions welcome for her and if anyone knows an e-liquid that is close to the nutty flavor of the Fin e-cig, let me know, it remains her favorite flavor and we have tried a good number of e-liquids.)

One final note: I know that products like the Fin or Blu e-cigs are not well regarded here, but I think they serve an important function in giving people an inexpensive way to take the leap into the world of vaping. My wife's smoker's cough is now gone, we are both feeling better and very happy to be smoke free.

Fizz(and Mrs. Fizz)pop,

You sound almost exactly like me and my wife except we are 50 and had smoked for over 30 years each.

She and I both use eGo type batteries and Vivi Nova's (me the big one and she the little one). We have been using them for many months and they curb the smoking urge.

We used cartos for the first month or so until we got vivi Novas. They work for us, easy to fill, fill once (twice on a heavy day) and happily stay away from cigarettes.

Honestly, whatever works is what is best for you. You want to try the Provari and a Z-Atty-Pro? I say go for it.

Welcome and congrats! A lot of folks, myself included, started with the cig-alikes; it got me started so in that vein, I view them positively.

Have you checked out the DIY forum yet? You may be able to find a recipe that fits what you are looking for there or you could create a thread asking for input. You will need to post a few more times in this forum until you are eligible to do post in other forums however.

Vape On! :)

That's great that you both are enjoying it so much! I've been trying to get my fiance to switch since last November. I think I might have finally talked her into it. I'm looking at ordering myself a Vamo and an RBA, and when that comes in she'll be taking over my old ego twist. Now if only I could find a good beginners RBA!

A lot of folks feel the Smoketech RSST is the best option for a first time RBA ... you can check it out here:

I too started on Blu's (and all the other similar brands when I first quit smoking analogs) and hell - they do a great job of getting you off the death sticks, which is of course, the most important matter of vaping! So congrats to you! I've recently helped a few of my friends both get off of analogs with store bought and then helped them 'progress' up the vape ladder towards their own personal PV's. None of them have gone back. Welcome!

Welcome to both you and your lovely wife. I'd recommend the Provari to anyone serious about vaping, it was my first purchase and never once regretted getting it. The best way for you to find out if RBA's are for you imo. would be to get a much less expensive DID clone. They can be had for under 20 bucks in most cases.

Some are just for dripping and some have tanks that hold a few ml.
By all means go with the z-atty pro if you like, but it's an awful lot of cash to drop before you're sure rebuilding is for you.
A DID clone will leave you with plenty of xtra cash to try other juices/DIY/or clearos.

The Protank looks and works great on my Provari, a 5 pack of replacement heads(coil/wick assemblies) for 5 to 10 bucks
is a winner for me. Most all clearos have polypropylene tanks that break down with some e-liquids. The Protank has a glass tank and will not break down. It's a little large for the ego batts. but Kanger is working on a smaller version that will better suit use on the ego batteries.

Hope vaping continues to keep you both smoke free. Cheers!

Wooohooo, Welcome, and CONGRATS to YOU !!! :thumb:

Very similar to my story... got you beat by 20+ years in age however, and had been smoking for 46 years.

Never did do Chantix, Wellbutrin, or patches however.

I, too, started with the off brand cig-a-likes, and that's really all it took to know I COULD do this. Quit in February and only this last week have I started upgrading a bit... and plan to do a whole lot MORE upgrading as time goes on. Just so much to look into, to tweak, and enjoy !

Yes. This CAN be done, and I only wish I had known about e-cigs when they first came out... could have quit seven years ago!!!

Wish you all the very best, and you and your wife have found the right place for all the information and support you could ever need !!!

Welcome to ECF and congrats to both of you!

My wife and I, both in our 40s, have a similar story but we started with the "cig-a-likes" that were available four years ago. Between terrible technology and lousy, low strength juice (16-18mg was often considered "strong"!) it just didn't take like I had hoped it would... but it gave us an introduction to vaping so when we more recently made the jump it had a much better chance of success.

Skipped the welbutrin and went after Chantix. Also a very scary drug at times, in my experience. My wife never even decided to try it, after seeing what it was doing to me. The patch was a terrible, fiddly sort of thing and didn't work out in the long run either. I used to carry Nicorette for where I couldn't smoke and thought *maybe* I could quit on it, if I really tried, but my wife would have no part of it.

Almost two months ago I bought my first vision spinner, a clearo, and a bottle of candy flavored 36mg e-juice. I actually quit smoking by accident on the drive home, I liked this new vaping experience so much. I still had two and a half packs of smokes left! Vaped myself silly for the first 36 hours or so and my wife tried it too. Finally a method she showed serious interest in! She had just bought a full carton of smokes and I think wanted to see if it would really work for me before she took the plunge. I got physically ill chain vaping the 36mg and stepped down to 24mg and gave the rest of the 36mg to my wife. Bought her a new spinner for herself the next day. While she intended to finish her carton of cigarettes before taking up vaping she didn't make it either! I think she still has three or four packs left which she abandoned a few days after I quit myself.

Now I'm down to 9-18mg, own a Vamo and a full mechanical mod plus a couple of RBAs and a handful of drippers. She has a pair of spinners (one pink, one purple, with matching lanyards) and a couple of vivi nova minis with metal tanks for the less plastic-friendly juices and seems quite happy with them. I let her try new juices on my hardware but she really shows no interest in "upgrading" her equipment. She's vaping 24mg now and is likely getting close to stepping down to 18mg as well.

Congrats!!! You two can kick this old habbit once and for all. I'm in my mid 30's and smoked for 15 years. I tried patches, gum, and Chantex to just come back to ciggs. I'm now over 7 months and have little to no desire to smoke again. Treat yourself to a new device and maybe suprise your wife with a Vision Spinner or eGo twist with a Kanger evod BBC to match. I think she would be cool with the sizes & colors they come in.
